This is a great help! The adjustments you made are so intuitive. Love the way you just add to where you need more fabric. Pleeeese do one for fitting trousers. I know this is a difficult thing to do but I am trying different techniques and yours seems so much easier. xxxx

I am constantly looking for videos showing pattern adjustment. It is so important. And I get so frustrated making toile after toile. So many people just assume we know about marking off the seam allowance before we start to adjust but I didn't know that when I first started attempting to adjust patterns. I've made suggestions for tutorials on this on channels and just seem to get ignored. So I said all that to say Thank You for this video. It was very helpful. I am now a new subscriber Mari and I know I will learn a lot. Again, thank you.

Super useful video! In the early 60’s, I learned to tissue fit in 4-H club, when I initially learned to sew. My mom learned to do this also in High School in the early 40s. We only did toiles for wedding and prom dress type projects. Anyway, this is still what I do 90% of the time. This method is easy, no additional cost or waste of fabric, efficient, and effective. Of course, this isn’t so easy if your pattern is made from computer paper instead of tissue! Thanks so much for sharing this method.
@MariSews
@MariSews 2 года назад
So cool to hear. I had someone ask me how it works with paper. I think I’ll give it a go and find out just how hard it is 😃 isn’t it funny how we circle around to fitting techniques of the past that are still such an efficient way to make garments? Sometimes things just don’t need to be reinvented

Amazon sells translucent paper that works well for patterns and tissue fittings.

@@dotschischloh9767 Yes! I bought Pellon 111 pattern tracing paper. It's light weight and translucent for tracing patterns, and strong enough to do tissue fittings.

These are such good tips for fitting. The sewing part is not too hard but fitting can give me a fit. Width is an important issue but also length of your body parts in relation to the pattern helps in getting the fit right.

Fitting was always my biggest struggle and forced me to get creative on numerous occasions. Thankfully this takes a bit of the guessing game out of fitting.

Also, I love your honesty and personality. I just finished the style arc pattern of the Joy Woven Vest. I used some remnants for lining(it's fully lined) The remnants were of a rather inexpensive silk charmuese. It frayed like crazy and I lost about a 1/2" on the front part of the vest lining, making the finished garment pull funny after sewing together. What is your suggestion for a silky type of lining fabric? Would you suggest cutting the lining a bit larger than your outer garment fabric? I am not an experienced lining sewer. Just done a few things that are lined. Thank you and I love your videos.
@MariSews
@MariSews 2 года назад
Oh bummer that it frayed it so much. For something like that I’d stay stitch all the edges or I’d apply a little bit of interfacing the edges. What a bummer!

@@MariSews thank you Mari. I will try the iron on interfacing. I still like the vest and will wear it, but I won't be adding the buttons to this one. Thanks again.

You looked like a million bucks in that fancy outfit girl! 🧵 I've been measuring my high bust in the wrong place! I've been going too high. 🧵 Mari - this was SUCH a helpful video! Do you think this method would work on pdf patterns that are printed on thicker paper (like from PDF Plotting)?
@MariSews
@MariSews 2 года назад
It should still work, you just might have to do some extra smoothing around curves. I’ll try it with the next pattern I’m planning to make that came in from PDF plotting and will let you know.
