Hi Julia! Senior Shifter Chris here! Today’s video is a great topic! Stop Procrastinating and Get Motivated. I think overall, I do a good job not holding things off, at least with some of the everyday tasks, I am getting better about doing the tasks and reminded myself how it feels to achieve and complete a task. However, my take-away from today’s talk would be when you said, “What do you want now VS what do you want the most.” I think that is a hard truth and a good reminder that yes, not procrastinating and doing simple everyday task isn't that difficult and I can get a desirable outcome now, but the things I do want most are things that will require time and effort and a journey of discomfort, yet growth. I would say it is my long-term goals that I need more motivation and less procrastination. Here my notes: Procrastinating thoughts: "I'll do this later." or "I'll do this tomorrow." or "I don't really feel like it so I'll wait until I feel like it." Why do we procrastinate: There is nothing wrong with you. Our brains want to seek pleasure and move away from pain. To conserve energy. (Ancient brain) It's easier to do nothing than to do something. Our brains like to be dramatic. Get Motivated: Doing and getting things done helps you to grow and thrive. Doing a job and doing well can help us grow in our careers and be successful. What to do: Get curious about what thoughts you have keeping yourself stuck. See your circumstances in a more neutral and less dramatic way. Get one thing/section done at a time. Remember, no one has ever promised that it would be easy, lovely, and delightful every step of the way. What do you want now VS what do you want most. When doing hard or difficult tasks, we will experience resistance, discomfort, frustration and accepting that helps us make it easier. It allows us to grow. No big goal, dream, aspiration, or commitment ever promised it would be easy.
I appreciate how you address the root cause of procrastination, not just giving solutions. It helps us understand why we do or don't do things and proves to us there is nothing wrong with us. Also, I like to use an "approximate timing" method to challenge dramatization. For instance, I can say to myself "reading 10 emails will take no longer than 10 minutes," when my brain says "reading my email will take too much time."
I love waiting in line or in traffic, it's a great place to practice mindfulness, patience, grounding, surrender, acceptance, regulating my emotions, and using my empathic abilities to sense the energies around me 🤣
Perfect timing. I'm not even procrastinating is other stuff draining my time worst ever time management, but learning & homeless two months & a half with this mid month 😊on disability swollen damaged pretty feet legs calves swollen, etc up & duen, sun damage brown a bit when im live skin mix latina Cuban American & it drained me. I'm am spending too lots for eating daily restaurant + some places store some items like two milks a 1/2 gal & small single medium milk when bad. Exactly how you say. I needed to do & thought if, but i didnt or think much of it much as i should have, but hearing you is helping. I'm going through much osin, losses & if sleep heslth, etc. My time too.
I put off an online art course for 3 and a half years due to this fear it won't be good enough and that I'm going to die if I do it. Being seeking professional help for a year and watching your videos regularly for a year and half. I do find I will need self help daily for life just to settle and reassure my brain.
I found I was procrastinating when I felt like my life had no purpose. What's the point? However, I now realize I'm here to help wake up others to their individual power. We have the power of our dollar, our love, our attention, our time, and our energy. It is time to take back what is ours.
I procrastinate because I need to be at the perfect timing to do something, but seems to me it never comes therefore I delay it... There's somewhat of a fear of failing but I manage to convince myself that I'll be able to do it later, it's quite insane but I can't help it
I am sure that you deal with people's drug use which can exacerbate the procrastination cycle. Drug use with alcohol or cannabis diminishes an individual's motivation, allowing procrastination to solidify.
