In this video, I would like to discuss the Type XX pilot's watch which is most known as a model from Breguet but which, in truth, was manufactured by multiple brands including Breguet, Dodane, Vixa & Auricoste. This model rose to fame through it's creation for the French Airforce as a flyback chronograph for the military pilot and remains and icon to this day.

+Armand The Watch Guy: Is it confirmed that these bezels, especially the "up-wards" were use as a counting bezels? It seems to me more logical to be used as a GMT bezel, at least from a contemporary point of view...

I realize I'm a bit late viewing and commenting on this piece, but I'm doing some research on the Breguet type XX with a view to purchasing one as an affordable, interesting and practical for everyday use vintage watch, and found it to be a wealth of information. It would be nice if you would continue on with the newer XXs and XXIs as that is what one will probably find in the modern pre-owned market.. I find the details you provided regarding calibres, durability issues and maintaince to be especially helpful. TVMI !

A very informative video. Love the Breguet, but I also found the Dodane & Vixa very appealing. Never heard of these brands until this video, so thanks for the intro to 2 more to keep an eye peeled for...

The Transatlantique pictured at the end of the video, is a testimony to finesse and delicate refinement but so very mechanical looking. With the cog-like bezel and cold pressed case, it verges on steampunk.

One should not forget the Breitling 765 which was a Type XX first offered in 1953

If I am not completely mistaken, IWC pilot watches had inner rotating bezels already in 1936.

I would like to see you feature the Breitling Navitimer in your _Story of an Icon_ series. Maybe it's already on your list to do.
