I like the X strokes following the circles as it blends in any microscopic ridges that may happen with the circles, more so on problem razors and smileys.
Hi Lynn, just bouncing some things around in my head.. I recently honed a Dovo 6/8 with rolling x strokes. It turned out not bad at all. It could use some more work but it shaved well enough. What worked for me was as I observed watching you. You do in fact lift the spine up to rock it but you do not torque/twist the spine. Am I right to assume that you maintain a flat angle as you rock back and fourth? I found myself doing that sub-consciously. Will using rolling x strokes on a small smile like a Dovo (mine had one when I got it, only at the toe and heel) negatively affect the razor? Thanks Mr. Abrams
I bought a new dovo and I sharpened on a 1000 to the point the the middle of the blade is everso slightly concave. I don't know if i'd feel comfortable with these more advanced techniques. If I continue with lighter straight strokes wouldn't the middle wear down faster than the sides and even itself out?
