A few days ago, I had a discussion with my kollege and he wanted to show me ways of self defense to set himself free from such locks, holds and chokes. I show him more emediate and direct ways for example, that evasive shift, before closing his choke on me followed by a hook punch to his ripps. Or a palmstrike to his groin while being in a choke. To such hold to the front I low backfist and front kick him in the groin. I also show him, that he could do something before such hold even happend, because I intercept him with for example a sidekick and a long range finger jab. Couldn't do anything, happend to fast. Even though everything work that way, he want to search still for complicated ways as a resolution. I guess beauty catch him more than functionality. Also a great thanks to you and your organisation at this point Thomas! Through you people I've learned so much in the last few years and am right now just at the beginning. I hope, I could come to Frankfurt in the near future to train with you and your guys. Best greetings!

People care more about being perceived as a competent fighter or doing some vain moves to believe they are competent by doing more complex stuff. Most don't want to REALLY fight for reals. RU-vid Andrew Tate "Karate Sucks". He lays out two type of schools and explains perfectly why there is not much money in teaching Real Original JKD. Nails it.

Tate seems to have some logical views on self-defence, although he seems totally bogus on other subjects.

@@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO Yeah...,but with THAT short, he nails it. I only understood & heard that perspective from IFO..,NO ONE else talked about it in ANY sense like that..., besides Bruce closing his schools. REALLY training people to be REAL fighters for reals is not much money, people want the superficial, superfluous moves and "look" of a fighter and believe that it will transfer to the viscerally dangerous, life threatening, unmerciful streets.

Makes TOO much sense. Nice move to avoid headlock. The problem is people don't develop and spend enough time developing to the max their tools like elbows, fists, fingers...,so they think it won't have that much effect, and it won't because most don't think it's that important to develop.

Simplicity. Simple and direct. Eliminate the problem asap. Fancy only looks nice at the ballroom dance . No time to look like the fight scene in movies . Jkd man!!

The 1965 birth of Jun Fan Gung Fu, he was attempting to make WC work better: “Bruce’s letters from Hong Kong to his assistant instructors in America during the summer of 1965 reveal that the art of Wing Chun remained front and center: “My style has now been formed. . . . Wing Chun principle is the nucleus (the most important foundation).”22 “I’m having a Gung Fu system drawn up - this system is a combination of chiefly Wing Chun, fencing and boxing.”23 “Glad to hear you’re [James Lee] practicing Sil Lum Tao and am especially happy to hear you understand that Sil Lum Tao is all the ways of the Wing Chun Hand [system] in a nutshell . . . anything for the betterment of Wing Chun.”24 “In my formation of a more complete Wing Chun I’ve added on an INDIRECT PROGRESSIVE ATTACK to the original chi sao [sticking hands], which is close quarter combat. Indirect Progressive Attack is the link to achieve chi sao.” Quoted From the new book : Wrath of the Dragon, the real fights of Bruce Lee

@@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO Correct Seattle kept it as a theory demonstration, but strongly de-emphasized. Seattle is/was a JFGF school Wing Chun (this isn’t working) > Modified Wing Chun (I’ll make this work) > Not Wing Chun (Just dump it)

@robertvondarth1730 Even Jesse admitted to Tommy that chi sao was useless. He said single arm chi sao was more practical, when you think about it, its more like fencing.

@@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO I have discussed this with a Fencing instructor that is also familiar with WC, and we both felt that there was something missing some hidden variable in wingchun that was hidden in plain sight. We came to the opinion that the wing Chun system is ultimately designed for mastery of butterfly swords, or Baat Jaam Do. Butterfly swords is a form of fencing, but short range two handed . (JKD is Rapier and Dagger) Or put simply, that’s what the wing Chun is “for“ Ship boarding actions with double cutlass, a line of sailors on a deck, unstable, compact and crowded space.

@@soumikdey7305If you happen to be training Muay Thai, I do not recommend the JKD stance. In Muay Thai you don't need to defend your groin nor can you kick their groin. So you lose the main kicking benefits of JKD stance.

Forgive me for answering a question directed at Marx. You can use a low, rear leg roundhouse kick from the JKD stance, but it’s not a good idea, because - Exposes your groin Disturbs your balance Highly telegraphic Inefficient
