Back to street photography in Bellevue, Washington! The weather cooperated with a surprising no-rain day and unseasonable warmth with temperatures in the mid 50’s to low 60’s.
Since I decided somewhat last-minute to do street photography, I wanted a quick framework to give some structure to my photos for the day. So, I borrowed from this week’s assignment in my photography class, and chose to concentrate on finding interesting perspectives. One way I’ve found to see from new perspectives is to use a lens that I don’t use often. For today’s photos, I decided to start with the Fujinon XF 10-24mm f/4 wide angle zoom. While I have this lens with me quite often, I usually reserve it for special and specific photos.

Interesting concept, I did something similar yesterday with my favorite lens (XF33 f/1.4), but I soon switched over to the XF16-80 (always in my bag), I was missing too many shots, I just didn’t have the time to "zoom" in or out with my feet. Very nice images Michael, my favorite is the one @7:30 but I also like the ones @5:47 and @6:00. Be well.

Hi Enrique! The struggle is real between prime and zooms. I’m starting to enjoy primes more. Lol. Many thanks for watching and sharing your kind words. Cheers!

Michael, here’s another thought regarding the 10-24: The Hasselblad XPan uses a 94°, a 71°, and a 40° horizontal field of view. (Not diagonal but horizontal). In full frame terms, a 17mm, 25mm, and a 50mm have those same horizontal FOV’s. The XPan aspect ratio is 24:65. Now: the 10-24mm resolves very well and the newer Fujifilm sensors approach medium format film capabilities within reason. So with the 10-24, two of the XPan lenses are covered. One could photograph with that in mind, crop off the excess in the upper and lower thirds of the image and create effective, inexpensive panoramic images fairly quickly. It’s a thought!

Looking good. The opposing girls reminds me of the cover of your book. Quick question: does a photo/vid ever not feature a "perspective?" Just a thought. Bill

Hi Bill! Yep - there’s an always a perspective. I think I was paying attention to using compositional perspective as a framework for the day’s photos. Cheers!

What street/area in Bellevue would you recommend as the most interesting from photography and history point of view? I live in Vancouver, BC and explore Washington state towns, slowly moving from the north... Bellingham, Edison, La Conner... Bellevue is one of my stop during next months.

Hi! Thanks for your question. The area I usually am walking starts at Bellevue Square, then usually head east towards the transit center. From there, I usually head north on 110th to Main, then west to Bellevue Way, then north to NE 8th (sometimes NE 10th) and then complete the loop. Hope that helps!

A 10-24mm would expand the way I think, the way I see, and the way I photograph significantly. My brain stops at about 30mm (FF eq) on the wide side.

I hear you on that. It’s a good visual exercise for me to see wider at times. When I’m using the Osmo Pocket 3, since it’s wide angle, sometimes it shows me a new composition - a fun surprise.

Looks to me like quite a few of these photos would do better in BW.
