Strength Training Workout for Beginners & Seniors || Full Body with Dumbbells

Total body weight training workout on the mat. All exercises are done at an achievable pace that’s great for seniors and beginners.
This workout has a short warm up, but if you need more and would like some cardio, here is a good video.
Recommend warm up: 10 minute Cardio Warm Up Workout // Low Impact Exercises for Seniors & Beginners

I’m using a two sets of hand weights for this workout. A 5 pound set and an 8 pound set. Always start lighter if you are unsure or just starting working out. It’s more important to have correct form and prevent injuries. It’s no big deal if you don’t have 2 sets, just use what you have!
You may also want a pillow to support your hips and head. If sitting cross legged is uncomfortable for you, you can extent your legs out in front or even do the first section sitting in a chair.
Make sure you stay for stretching at the end of the workout. The final 6 minutes are stretching exercises that will reduce soreness, work on flexibility and make you feel great!

You have helped me help myself...I have scarred lungs and was out of shape...I've been following you approximately 8 months and I'm down 23lbs and my breathing is much better..I still need oxygen, but knowing I'm somewhat in control of my breathing is all thanks to you...I appreciate what you're doing...thank you...🙂

This is by far my favorite workout on this channel. It works every muscle and is challenging but not too challenging for my 54 year old body. It is gentle but effective!!

This was amazing! The time went so quick. I used 3 & 5 lb weights which were just right for me. And I loved that it was all in the floor. This was my first workout with you! ❤

I have been an exerciser my whole life, considering exercise as my "movement medicine." Just starting my 60's and I feel more balance, more tone and definitely more strength. Lauren, THANK YOU with all my heart for making these videos! I'm 41 and so badly needed workouts I could do after being bed-ridden off and on for the last 10 years. I've searched in the past for "pilates for beginners" but could never find something that was gentle enough and "beginning" enough for me, being so weak. How horrible Cvd was! But I'm so very grateful that out of that came your videos!!! One day 6 months ago, I desperately searched youtube one more time for a senior/beginner pilates workout, and there you were - beautiful, smiling so cheerfully, very evidently fit and strong - exactly what I wanted and needed, and want to be! How I whooped a hallelujah!!! Thank you so very much for providing these videos for free. It means so very much - you will never know. I've now done all of your floor pilates workouts, i'm feeling so strong, my back has not gone out since I started, and this video is my particular favorite. It's perfect. I feel like I say this all the time, but this time I mean it: one of my favorite workouts ever! I'm rehabbing a foot injury, so this workout is heaven sent--working all of the muscles my mountain of physical therapy exercises don't, all while keeping weight off my foot. Plus it was challenging and different. I tell everyone I know about your channel.

Hi Lauren, Thank you for the great exercise. I found that my right side has difficulty keeping up with the lifting. My right shoulder seemed tighter, and my right leg was also finding the exercise harder. But we persevered with the exercise and thoroughly enjoyed it, looking forward to a new routine.

This is by far my favorite of your videos! Please keep making videos like this: on the mat & strength training. It's so helpful!! I suppose it simulates working out with the machines in the gym, but in any case, I can safely challenge myself in a way that I can't when I'm standing. Thank you!!

I did not have a lazy day rather it was a stressful busy day and this workout just helped me wind down. Loved the combos.... and I really enjoyed having to engage my abs while sitting and doing the arms with the weights. Really a good work out for the whole body !!!!

This is one I regularly come back to so I can check my progress. I've just gone up a weight to 8lbs for the heavy weight. I've lost 4 inches from the tops of each of my arms. They're starting to look really toned. I'm not after perfection but being happy with the way I look is new for me. Thank you for your help Lauren

Wow that was the toughest one for me so far. During the leg workout I really was struggling with my posture & keeping my arms straight😳. Love your variety & the challenge. I haven’t been able to do weights in so long Think I was using too much weight. Again so glad I found your channel!

I have been strength training for years now. Workout at home using Pahla B, Kathy Smith and a few others. I decided for varieties sake to give your workout a go. I’ve no idea why you talk about it as a lazy day workout ! I found the shoulder and arm exercises tough. I noticed I needed to use lighter weights than standing routines which made me wonder if other parts of my body are being used when I do weights standing? So you’re in the mix and I’m very glad I found your site. I’m 69 and have done fitness workouts since I was mid twenties but I’m really keen to keep as strong as I can. Thanks.

Hi Sue, thanks for the feedback! I would definitely say that this is one of my harder workouts. You're correct, the muscles are used in a different way when you are on the floor, so that's why it felt more challenging to you. Nice job making your way through it!
