Weight Training Workout // Full Body Strength Exercises for Seniors & Beginners

Full body strength training workout with dumbbells. I'm using 5 pound weights in this excellent workout featuring exercises for the entire body. Always start with lighter weights if you are new to working out and you can gradually increase the weight as you get stronger.
After a short warm up, the first part of this workout is completed in a standing position. Here, we will work on strength building exercises for the shoulders, biceps, calves, thighs and glutes. We will do some lateral lunges as well as some curtsy lunges that are more knee friendly. You can also always keep the movement small to avoid any knee pain. We then move to the floor to work the glutes/butt more, as well as chest, triceps, upper back and core. If you are uncomfortable in a hands and knees position, you can do these exercises (leg lifts and rows for the upper back) in a standing position hinged slightly forward. The workout is completed with nice stretching to reduce any soreness and work on flexibility.

I've been doing this workout everyday for a couple of months - now up to using 3Kg and 5Kg dumbbells. Getting people who enjoy exercising to do a class regularly is good but to get someone who doesn't (e.g. me) is a real achievement. The 'class' includes all the exercises (and some!) that my physio recommends and I am now seeing real benefits. Many thanks Lauren.

I love these full body workouts. Would you happen to have a suggestion for calf besides calf raises. I have a toe that causes me pain. I broke it in ninth grade and it now has osteoarthritis.

That was AMAZING!!! I have been trying to increase my weights by doing one above your suggested weight. For the alligators (killer) I had to drop to your recommendation. Thank you for the protein reminder. I only recently started focusing on it. My goal is to shed the remaining squishy stuff so I can see the muscles I’ve been working so hard on. Can’t wait to see them! This was a great workout to start the week with! 💜💜💜

Wow certainly feel it in some muscles - not sure about alligator exercise [ gives a bite ] had to change weights - I like this workout so much of a full workout and variety ..🙏 17/12/21

I’m in good shape in part due to Lauren. I like the variety. I have to skip some moves due to a shoulder and a knee. I don’t like the split stance positions esp where you lower your back knee. I just do something else. I work out three times per week with Lauren. My bone density has improved since I began!

Great workout! I feel worked out, but not wiped out. I enjoyed doing moves different from what I'm used to, such as the alligator moves. I can't do crunches or leg lifts, so I subbed some weighted carries.

@@SeniorShapeFitness Sorry for being confusing! I meant the reverse crunch, lifting legs for ab work while lying on my back. I was able to do the leg lifts while on my knees. I can do all floor work except ab floor work.

LAUREN! I cannot tell you how much you have helped me exercise🤩and I recently realized I have been following you for a year in February! You have kept me consistent, and i cannot thank you enough for your excellent channel!! That being said, I wanted to ask you if you could recommended some exercises/ or your videos to strengthen my legs. I recently went back to riding and I need to strengthen my legs to stay on the horse!!! Any recommendations from you would be greatly appreciated 😊

You are very welcome as always Suzanne! I love horses and used to ride all the time! English or Western? anyway, you'll want to focus on strengthening the inner thighs. Thanks Lauren, another great workout. I used 5# weights except when shoulder exercises looked as if rotator cuff was going to be worked. Then, I backed down to 3# weights for those. Loved the variety of exercises that you incorporated in a 30+ minute program. My muscles feel like they were worked- in a good way!

Lauren. That’s marvellous. All round workout and I noticed how much emphasis you give to breathing. I presume that big breaths provide extra amounts of oxygen to the muscles to help them work more effectively and to strengthen and grow. Et voila!

This was a very good workout, Lauren, especially the arms. I rested about 5 days from using weights, so after this exercise, I can feel the light 'ache' in biceps, triceps and lower arm area! 👍 Have a great week ahead 😁.

So far I have enjoyed all the workouts. Love that they are low impact for my knees. I’m 59 and get most of my cardio from tennis but needed some low impact strength workouts and definitely needed stretching. These workouts are great for both and I love your excellent explanations and tips during the workouts. Great channel!

Hi Lauren. I love this workout. Have decided to use it as my standard strength training workout to do every 2-3 days, so I can gauge my progress with progressively heavier weights. In between days I will pick a cardio, or stretch, or core workout to balance it out. Does this sound like a reasonable plan? Many thanks for all your lovely workouts.

Thank you for the program,I have been doing exercises with Lauren for 3 weeks, I has given my over all well being improved. I have incorporated Lauren 5x a week with my 2x a week mini triathlon , walk 30 minutes, ride either spin bike or stationary bike for 8 miles and swim 12 laps. Would it be possible to have a 30 day program with Lauren's exercise , varying the exercises. Thank you for helping me get stronger and better.

Great variety in this workout Lauren really worked my arms especially the ones where you touch each weight and then out and up oh my goodness my arms felt that one. I used 3kg weight for the whole workout. 🏋️

I have doing the señor shape with Lauren I can feel the changes and strengthening. I was wondering if you can design a program that can use your exercises 30 plan that helps vary the program, so. one day you do cardio/ weights, next day you do legs something like that. Thank you so much for the workouts, they really work. I incorporate these exercises with my mini triathlon , After my exercise with Lauren , I walk 30 minutes fast for one minute and slow for one and half minutes for 20 minutes then ride either spin bike or stationery bike for 8 miles then swim 12 laps or more I do the mini triathlon 2X a week. but do the wilking and Lauren daily. thank you so much for helping this 73 year old find her strength, balance and overall well being.

Really appreciate the reminders on form especially for the back (( I know I say that often but its a big deal )) Love the movements of the counts of 1 and then 3-2-1 or was it 1-2-3? I also appreciate the bonus on the abs.

Hi Lauren. I lived this workout. Not sure if you are aware but it had one ad. I think you did it on purpose though to give us 65 year old with Arthritis time to get on the floor. I did another trainer yesterday that only had music and my back wasn't happy yesterday or this morning. My back feels so much better today after the stretches. My doctor told me to do weight bearing exercises not swimming because I have Osteopenia so I think this falls in that category. Lesson learned I need a good instructor like you that will warm me up and cool me down properly.

You got it Paula, a proper warm up and cool is so important!!! That's also why I talk (hopefully not too much) in my videos because my audience needs the cueing! It's so important to have proper form and not hurt yourself. I'm glad to hear that your back feels better!

Wow. Another great one. I love exercises like these because you work all of the major areas of the body. I always feels so rejuvenated when I do your videos. I finally got up the courage to do your 45 minute kickboxing and like the last one, it kicked my butt. But I did it and I am so proud of myself for accomplishing it. Thank you so much for these videos. You hardly ever see videos for senior's and middle age women like myself on RU-vid. Most videos on here are geared to younger people. Keep em coming.🥰
