Senator Clay Davis takes Bell to meet a contact who can arrange federal funding. Bell meets with Davis again, angry that he is still facing bureaucratic obstructions despite bribing the Senator. Bell meets with Levy to discuss the lack of progress he sees in his development work despite paying Senator Davis. Levy tells Stringer that Davis is a "gonif," the Yiddish word for "thief," with a reputation for pocketing bribes for himself.

Clay Davis is so damn good at his scams, it's scary to know he's based off a real life Baltimore politician. I don't know who since I'm not from there, but apparently it's obvious to most people from there. I bet he's the only politican to meet with Stringer face to face, so he makes Stringer think all political deals are like the scam he's running. God knows Clay's got an easy way to launder that $250k, and what the hell can Stringer do about it? If he goes to the police or the newspaper, all he can say/do is complain that a state senator stole $250k of drug money from him. It's funny considering how scummy Levy is, that in this situation, he's exactly who Stringer needed to help him. Levy doing his job would protect Stringer from getting scammed by Clay.

During the lobby scene, I guess they had to break down Stringer's ego in order for the scam to work. Golden Goose refused to shake his hand, left him hanging in front of everyone. You could see Stringer looking around self-consciously, straightening his tie. Made him feel helpless, more likely to go along

One of my favorite scenes and lines in the whole damn show and there are many. 💯🥶🔥 Holy shit. Avon knew from the get go but stringer thought he was smarter than him because of how he presented himself. He was jealous imo because Avon could play both sides better than him and he couldn't do that no matter how hard he tried. Hubris will do you in every time.
