@user-pg1nx4vm4g
@user-pg1nx4vm4g Год назад
@@yesteryeargears8191 look it up there’s a difference between hardness of a chrome vs impact and short vs deep impacts. Impact sockets have more mass which helps with the transfer of energy/ torque on the fastener from the anvil in the gun. Not to mention chrome sockets will ruin your anvil on your impact gun amongst many other things that will happen with prolonged use. P.S. this isn’t the best explanation but hope it helps give you the idea of what one of their purposes is and of course there are some scenarios where you just need way more torque that a gun can’t put out but that’s not always the case.

@@user-pg1nx4vm4g that's kinda what I'm getting at. Yeah he might be using the wrong socket but at the end of the day it's still a hard steel socket and I think we would find it's a torque issue. If the sockets were breaking, or twisting or bending then I'd go after the socket too.

just jam breaker bar on it and use the starter. has never failed me. But my 1400 ft lb Milwaukee would have definitely taken that bolt off..... They must have been using some little impact driver.... There's no way in that position you can get the leverage on it with the breaker bar by hand to do anything. Because I've got a Honda pilot and I've done exactly this right here when the harmonic balancer fell apart..
@rogerbarrett9920
@rogerbarrett9920 Год назад
That’s ok of course if the crank pulley has a key- but many cars now including some Fords and Mazdas have no key in the pulley. Then you risk engine damage - as soon as the crank bolt is released the pulley is free and the valve timing immediately is lost . With an interference engine pistons hit the valves and damage occurs.
@duskyman1

This is actually easy. Hook the breaker bar to the bolt and brace it on the floor. Hook up the battery and crank the car once. Do not start. Bolt comes right out, I've done this on a few cars

Hay fellas been a mechanic in Australia for half a century or there abouts, I've never used a rattle gun ever to undo a harmonic balancer and It can be removed in 2 minutes you just put the socket and a breaker bar put it on the bolt rest the breaker bar against the front chassis so it can't move the turn the ignition key on and crank it , it works every time !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Always use the right tool and you'll have no problem. They make a special socket for a reason

Used to break that bolt with the starter lol. Jam your prybar into the dirt and hit the starter and it loosens itself

You need an impact socket a good thick one, you need the mass to help break those stubborn bolts free.

the best sockets are 6 sides, the ones with more corners can damage the nuts and bolt, they are designed to use less angle screwing or unscrewing, NOt for breaking loose tight bolt
