@@yesteryeargears8191 look it up there’s a difference between hardness of a chrome vs impact and short vs deep impacts. Impact sockets have more mass which helps with the transfer of energy/ torque on the fastener from the anvil in the gun. Not to mention chrome sockets will ruin your anvil on your impact gun amongst many other things that will happen with prolonged use. P.S. this isn’t the best explanation but hope it helps give you the idea of what one of their purposes is and of course there are some scenarios where you just need way more torque that a gun can’t put out but that’s not always the case.

@@user-pg1nx4vm4g that's kinda what I'm getting at. Yeah he might be using the wrong socket but at the end of the day it's still a hard steel socket and I think we would find it's a torque issue. If the sockets were breaking, or twisting or bending then I'd go after the socket too.

@@yesteryeargears8191 I’m also explaining from my personal experience in the automotive field I’ve tried using a chrome with my 1/2 gun air and electric and I’ve had bolts not even so much as budge but then switching to the heavier impact it seemed to do the trick but then there are some things to say about that but all I am saying is the difference in a sockets and what they can or can’t break free can be huge

never in my life seen one round off a bolt unless ur a size to big

6 point weighted socket is what I use. Pretty much works on my half inch impact every time. I agree with you.

Came here to say this… I use 3/4” drive impact sockets with adapters if needed, the 3/4 drive sockets are much thicker and heavier and are much cheaper than the specialty sockets made for this. Drove me nuts watching him use a chrome socket for this

For real. Shit, Harbor Freight if you only need it once... But yeah, you lose a ton of force with all that slop

It is probably fine for the torque being applied. The issue is the socket doesnt have enough weight to break the bolt free.

Yep need a 6 point impact socket for sure,It would be bad if that Chrome socket cracked and then detonated

@@Sak-zo1ui those Honda bolts are torqued like 200lb but realistically will probably need like 300lbft to remove it so it is quite of lot of torque for a chrome socket especially a 12 point

@@emmanuelalva6597 the material in most sockets dont change. Usually the mass is what changes. But yeah a 6point would be ideal to get the best and most efficient result out. But a 12 point can make it easier to get a better angle with still solid contact.

@@yumsayin7078 I’ve used 2 half inch drive 2ft breaker bars every time and gotten it… you don’t need a 3/4” drive unless you’re just that weak 😂 probably using a big ass cheater bar too

@@bigboiautolab7618 how long you been doin this? Because together me n my boss been doin this over 60 years, no need for a cheater bar when you got that 3/4inch. And thats for the real stubborn ones, ones on a car that zero maintenece has been done on it. If the car is kept up on, yeah a half inch breaker does it no problem. The only thing weak around here is your jokes bruh🤦

Yeah he was def right on that! That’s the only thing saving him from the consequences of the 12 point socket.

I have one of those too, but it broke the balancer. now I just use the thick wall 19mm on a 1/2" aircat and good to go.

And when he had the electric impacts on it he was turning it forward if you noticed the flywheel spins that way when he hit the button

@@kurtdunlap6454 I used a pneumatic wrench with a big compressor so probably depends on what your using aswell. A tried a Milwaukee 1/2 and it wouldn’t budge at all.

That’s ok of course if the crank pulley has a key- but many cars now including some Fords and Mazdas have no key in the pulley. Then you risk engine damage - as soon as the crank bolt is released the pulley is free and the valve timing immediately is lost . With an interference engine pistons hit the valves and damage occurs.

@@rogerbarrett9920 hopefully the crank bolt and harmonic balancer has nothing to do with the timing. Hopefully theres a timing cover and a timing gear that's keyed to the crankshaft that's behind that harmonic balancer.

@@duskyman1 - Obviously this Honda has keyways. I just remember a guy I new using the starter motor method on his Mazda and oops !

I bet you your 1400 ft lb Milwaukee won't break that loose. Because mine did not. I had to do the strong arm with an 5ft breaker bar with a 3 ft cheater pipe.

@@cookster3333 you missed the part where I said I've done this didn't you? You didn't let it beat anytime at all and you were using a crappy Chrome socket instead of a heavy impact socket to boot.

Came here to say this! Auto tech of 20 years, I've done that so many times. If it doesn't come off right away with the impact, gets the 24" breaker.

This is how I do subarus. No room for an impact but the starter will break it loose every time

Not on hondas, if you do that you will brake the Bolt
