Okay back on topic: That Hungarian AMD-65 looks fucking awesome. I think that should be the second AK I buy after I buy a zastava N-pap

Thanks much for watching...and of course I agree; the AK just has something about it that the AR15 lacks. For me, while I'd like an AK-105, I'd go for a more authentic look. Black poly furniture, modern flashhider/booster device, etc.

Its a small one, that's for sure...and in some ways ahead of its time.

Yep, it is 26mm...this video is on the AKS-74U. Just brought the M92 out for comparison and because it is a well known variant here in the USA. As to the PM-80, while I know this designation now, I had not yet confirmed it when we recorded this video back about 6 weeks ago. I was at teh time finding about 3 different model numbers that people were claiming to be 'correct' lol. Back around 2010, I had about 40 of those left sidefolding stocks. some ended up on Draco SBR conversions, while others just were sold as parts. Very interesting design, but also pretty weak. The single metal tube is like the later PM-65 stock in that it is made of hollow steel. Also like that stock, the buttplate folds up into the horizontal position. In a way, its an underfolding stock that was cut in half and made into a left side folder. The trunnion it uses though is very similar to the AMD-65's though, with the latch being the biggest difference. Too bad Century never imported a WASR-2KR setup like the PM80 huh? It is a very unique design, cheers.

Ozark Bear Arms You might get PM80 kits if the Gendarms sell them off, but they're still in active use. I saw one at the German Embassy guard post after the Paris attacks.

Apex had a few kits in 5.45x39, but they were the newer PM90 with the standard right side folding wire buttstock. Maybe I should look for a Champion 2007 pistol in 5.56mm? Not exactly the right caliber but very close. I could install the lefty stock and AIMR flash hider. It would probably be pretty neat.

You need a receiver made specifically for the triangle folding stock. The biggest difference is the angle at the back. Just a lot of small, but critical differences. Have you ever put together an AK before? It is nothing like an AR15 and requires a number of specialized tools.

I have not, I figured it would be very different from building AR15s. Do you think it would be easier to simply find and buy an AK74 with a folding stock rather than try to build one from a parts kit then?

Yes it would be. You're looking at buying hundreds of dollars worth of tools just to get started. Unless you plan on building many more AKs after that one buying is cheaper then building these days. Even once you buy the tools, with the cost of parts kits, you're not saving that much money.

Only in part kit form, and very few of those at that sadly. Also, not many true AKM-63 kits came in, at least with original barrels.

Yep, couldn't hurt. I don't much like shooting the Draco as a pistol but as a carbine its fun.

5.45 holds velocity better

762 is a much better round for sbr 545 is really close to 556 there's a ton of threads on 556 out of anything under 14 " it still will kill but ur loosing alot 556 out of 10" barrel loses too much, a 9mm carbine its better..on the other hand 762 chops down on the barrel better than most, you hardly loose any velocity from 16 -10 inch In 762×39 If you want a cheap round to shoot in sbr that performs pretty well its hard to beat 762

The PP-19s were never imported into the US so the awe is justified (at least here) because the heart tends to pull towards what it can't have. Personally, I've always wanted one too.

Killer Ratchet They don't make kits.. The kits have to be imported and are from used or NOS rifles being demilled for importation purposes(Which nowadays means cutting the barrel/receiver.. Ouch!!). Now there are still firearm companies who of course still manufacture the entire rifles. If interested check out the Arsenal SLR104UR in his video. The kits are out there, too. But are definitely getting harder to find(Especially, with original barrel).

Ak Dude ah I see thanks I've always thought of having a krinkov for something with personal defense due to the compact size. I'll look into that arsenal slr 104, was also thinking of having an slr 107 to try to make it an ak102 clone.

Ak Dude yep I've got one I bought from Kvar back in mid 2000. For 700.00 now they bring 2000.00 and up. Even has the original barrel. Later they where selling the kit minus the barrel. Glad I bought before they dried up.

According to several sources, including Max over at Modernfirearms.RU, Tula made the AKS74U. That said, anything's possible and Izhevsk could have made prototypes, test models, experiments, or even just refurbished Tula guns *shrug*. I do know enough to know I don't know everything, or even much lol.

well if you do some research on the files you will see that izzy made the original krink.. the top hand guard was longer it was the same length as the lower hand guard.. then izzy stopped making them and it switched over to tula and vice versa tule started making the ak74 and they stopped and the ak74 went to izzy ... from the in depth research iv done this is what i came up with.. i can be wrong.. but i don't think I'm wrong about the drinks being made in iveshek and the ones they made the upper hand guard is longer .. same length as lower hand guard.. also the rear sight is not attached to the hinge point its further back..

If we're talking original design and early prototypes, then yep, Izhevsk did make some AKSUs. But standard/full production seems to have been at Tula. Something similar happened with the RPK. Izhevsk designed it, but when it was time to go into production, all that was setup at Molot. Remember, it was communism and these weren't private companies. They were all state owned, and ultimately took orders from on-high haha. A friend has one of the early Russian prototype AKSU parts kits. It is in 7.62x39 too if memory serves. As I say in the video, they did experiment and produce test guns to try out the subcompact concept for a number of years.

Man, i'd love to get pictures of a lot of the stuff he has. Have you ever met some of these old timer gun guys though? They have stuff..everywhere...addic, basement, barns, outbuildings...and most of it they know they have but no a clue where it is. Remember though, a lot of this stuff that is rare today was common and cheap back 10-20 years ago. Some guys just literally 'bought it cheap, and stacked it deep.' lol He still has a Romie left side folding stock of mine...somewhere. I'd really like to get that back from him. It was one that had been bent and sent it to him to straighten it out. I am sure he fixed it. Just not sure where he put it afterwards!

@@RustedCroaker it's just a faux suppresssor sleeve that covers the goofy 16inch barrel, it's designed to look like a Russian suppressor but serves no purpose other than disguising the barrel.
