That's a really original condition old Pete. Right down to the slit rim budd wheels. It'd be a great truck for antique truck shows. But not so good for working it in this day and age. I use to drive those old cabovers back in the day and it was a workout (chuckle) , they'd beat the snot out you, you'd freeze in the winter and bake in the summer. You'd climb in the bunk take off your jeans to catch some sleep and all the change in your pockets would fall out on the mattress. The good old days. But when you stopped at a truck stop you'd see real truck drivers in there. And we all had a mutual respect for each other. Yes I'm a old bastard but I survived it all with no regrets, and glad I did it. Your dad probably knows what I'm talking about.
The 92 series didn't come out until 1974, so unless there was an engine swap at some point, this would more likely be the 71 series. Cool truck. It's too bad cabovers went away in North America. 352/362, K100, and CLT9000's were sweet looking rigs.
Just the 2 fold down Cowboy Hat racks on the ceiling of that Pete, made it worth the trip. lol! But seriously, your Dad's a trip. So few get to do what you two just did, even less Fathers, and sons. Sleeping in the bunk, of moving cabover is such a treat. lol! And you lived to tell the tale.
Love to hear your Dad talk. Really miss Philly, and he brings back so many memories. Wish I could spend time with my Dad, as he moved on four years ago. Make time.. You never get it back..
You know the old saying when you have a Detroit and you pull up and fuel up! Check the fuel and fill up the oil ! LOL . Had a 318 Detroit in a 1973 C30A cab over cornbinder with a 10 speed roadranger single axle , 2:26 pulled for North American Van Lines new products division out of Fort Wayne Indiana
I think I've seen all of your clips and have yet to know your name. And one more thing, I graduated high school in Strafford Mo. Like your NYC trips. Keep on truckin brother

Man you and your dad had me laughing so hard buddy 😆 🤣 😂 yall are hilarious great times. Great to see videos like this one all the spots from the movie. Great to see you guys having so much fun
Best RU-vid video I've watched in a while. Glad you and your Dad had a ball. Would love to do a similar trip one day when I visit the US. Keep on trucking from down in Aus.
There's a difference between rubbing and grinding! Use your fingertips to feel the gears speed rubbing , throttle up and down to determine if the road speed is compatible with the hole you're trying, you'd figure it out in a few hours,.. during preflight bring the rpms up about 1500 and watch/learn/feel how little pedal is needed for 300 rpm rise and fall .. you got to reprogram your brain foot connection!! 2 cycle Detroit's are a different kind of beast LoL!!
Yep my thoughts exactly we only live once With that being said the Family and I have planned a weekend turnaround trip at the end if the month from Phoenix to California to hit the beach and escape the heat for a couple days 👍
I knew drivers in the 80s that would quit before they went back to new York. Slow car in front Obamas children in the trailer unloading the thing at10 miles per hr.😅pick up trucks with one standing on hood tossing to another riding in pick up bed. They'd fill 4 pick ups in 10 minutes. That's if you were lucky most time They'd just jack your truck at gunpoint. In a city where guns are illegal. Prison time illegal if caught and police would shake a sleeper down looking for one. He'll on earth.
Just drive it like you stole it when it comes to those V8 GM's. Flat change between 1800 and 2100rpm and throw a blanket over the headlights so it can't see the hills comin' up. And better really like changin' gears 'cause it's never ending. The Cummins guys don't realise how easy they've got it by comparison. Well edited video and enjoyed.
Those string phones were originally made with empty tin cans, we called them tin can telephones, the string was never mentioned cause everyone knows telephones require phone lines or string pulled tight..😮
Cab over Pete with a Detroit. Can’t go wrong. I know of a 69 Long nose Pete with sleeper, powered by, yup, you guessed it, a 8v71. Sitting and rotting away😢. It’s not that far from you either. I had it running a couple years back. He wants me to get it started again, so I’m going to be charging the batteries and give her a try. “ OH” it’s defiantly a man’s truck! No power steering!😩 she’s a workout in tight spots.
