@@davidm4566 yeah I am a prequel fan and I'll admit that the dialogue was cringey at times (especially in attack of the clones) but the prequels seamlessly fitted with the OT. But the sequels didn't in any way And in Revenge of the sith we received the best lightsaber duel imo
@Excelsior Same way that Boba fett isn't a mandalorian. Jedi is a creed, a way of life. A Jedi is not just someone with force powers. Luke wasn't a Jedi either until episode 6. Watch Luke in episode 5 to see Luke make every mistake a Jedi would not. Not to mention, the sequels never go into the biggest lesson a Jedi has to learn. The seductive power of the dark side. It's the whole reason the Jedi train. Instead Rey is constantly screaming and wielding her saber first in every confrontation. Watch her stab Kylo in RoS with such anger and tell me I'm wrong. That's not a Jedi. I don't care how much floating you do. A Jedi never wields their saber in offense. They are the last to turn theirs on. Even Vader knew this in Empire. Watch Vader in Empire, he was in complete control, while he watch luke make every mistake. Not surprising considering Vader was once a Jedi. Well, training to be one. Vader ultimately failed his training. But he understood the training Why do you think the counsel didn't grant him Jedi Master in episode 3? George spent 6 movies explaining this, yet you act like it's some big secret. Throughout all 3 sequels, i never once felt that Rey could turn to the dark side. It was never brought up as the threat it should be. Yet, she does everything a Jedi is trained not to. The Screaming she does in every movie is in anger, yet it's never shown how anger leads to the dark side. She's a Jedi as much as a kid in school dissecting a frog is a doctor. I could keep going, but you should have the idea by now. Plenty of great videos on RU-vid you can watch if you still aren't convinced.
@@PoopaChallupa good point. a big point of the originals was the danger of the allure of the dark side. In the first film, it's mentioned how Darth Vader was seduced by its power. Then it was more explored in Empire with Luke confronting a vision of himself in Vader's armor on Dagobah suggesting what could happen to him. Then in the 3rd film he is tempted to turn ironically for good reasons first to save his doomed friends from the Emperor's trap then his sister from being corrupted. It's then we see him give into his anger and physically defeat Vader until he stops himself at the last moment and rejects the Dark Side. We are supposed to understand he came very close to falling to the Dark Side. Rey on the other hand never has this temptation thruout the series despite showing signs that she could easily fall to the Dark Side (especially out of hubris). Even the dark side place in Dagobah shows nothing of this sort. Nor is the Emperor interested in turning her to the Dark Side as he was with Vader, Luke, and Kylo. If she killed him like he wanted at first, he'd have possessed her like some Biblical demon whereas if Luke did Luke would have surrendered to the Dark Side. That internal struggle was completely absent in Rey which is yet another reason why her character is so boring and unrelatable.
@Mark Peterson I have seen Sith act more like a Jedi than Rey. Just look at Kylo dodge like 4 swings from Rey after she goes into a hissy fit over the Wayfinder being broken
@@RoninDave I completely agree. The movies built zero tension and the RoS was the worst offender. Not only did they undo Anakin's story arc, they failed to make us believe there was any chance of Rey turning to the dark side. TLJ is a whole other problem. Why continue the Skywalker story(which already concluded) if you're just going to crap on the OG characters and replace them with substandard, undeveloped characters... They should have done 1 of 2 things, either use Lucas' story for future Skywalker series, or do your own storyline. Disney should have made something completely separate from Skywalker. As much as I would have loved 7, 8 and 9 to have been good movies I can honestly say the Disney disaster gave me many more hours of youtube entertainment than the movies ever could have.
This might sound like I'm nitpicking, but it actually bothers me that throughout the sequel trilogy, the word “lightsaber” is only used twice! Disney calls it a “laser sword” or “saber”, which really takes away the mystical qualities of the weapon. Also, referring to a lightsaber as a “saber” significantly reduces how unique and special it is. “Saber” just makes it sound like a lightsaber is no different from any other sword. Just my opinion but for some odd reason this bothers me.
@@RobotHead I've seen it multiple times! Disney really doesn't understand lightsabers, do they? Also, in the opening scene of TROS, Kylo Ren uses his lightsaber to push a mustafarian, as if the blade is solid and not made of light.

@@sirprize275 Right?? I mean, I understand why they got rid of the original Expanded Universe, but the least they could have done was keep the character growth and optimism from that canon.
That's the thing that's disappointing and depressing about the sequels: our old heroes are just inept and incompetent losers who are just the most miserable, broken down people. It makes sense if they were fighting a losing battle for years leading up to The Force Awakens but that doesn't seem to be the case the way the narrative is presented in the opening crawl.
Sorry but the prequels were s**t, no, it wasn't all sunshine and roses back then, how do you think we got Disney? Crazy Georgie had to sell it because he ruined it first with the crappy prequels and the stupidity in those films, Disney just gave the final stab to a franchise that can't be faithful to the originals untouched by crazy georgie, release the theatrical versions of Star Wars untouched and in 4K quality and you'll see this franchise alive and kicking again, all rest is cow dung. Even the Ewoks movie and the Christmas special are better than the prequels and sequels together, I don't even know who buys star wars blurays anymore? Even the originals as they were massacred by George Lucas in the 90's with the senile special edition...
Little Chestnut uh no one was talking about the prequels so not sure what sparked your little rant. I really like the prequels as flawed as the are; yes I had to grow up a bit to understand and appreciate the politics, if someone had just told “Crazy Georgie” to tone it down a bit with the overly poetic dialogue and special effects I believe the movies could have been amazing. I honestly feel bad that George was pretty much bullied into selling his creations to a soulless company.
In a weird way, i'm glad the sequel trilogy happened as the prequels finally got the recognition they deserved. The prequels were ofcourse flawed, but the overall story arc was incredible and spawned a new generation that loved them just as much as the originals. I doubt a new generation will think fondly of the sequels looking back.
The cuts where they remove the needless alien/droid shenanigans make it so much more watchable. I know C-3P0 and R2 were always kinda the comic relief but it was subtle or at least subdued like the conversation about accidentally thawing the princess' room on Hoth, or 3P0 just being an ass to R2, etc. It was there, but it was quick, over-and-done as soon as it happened. No one was fumbling their own head through a droid factory for 12 minutes of screen time.
Personally I only didn't really like the first movie of the prequels all that much. Or more clearly, young Anakin was kinda annoying to watch. Once they got into the parts where he is older, the politics, etc. it was quite good in my opinion. But I did start with the prequels.
I like the prequels the arent perfect, as you said, but they are cool the visuals are nice and it was by George Lucas (unlike one trilogy I know) and we got some fan favorite characters like general greivous, young obi wan and Anakin
Nah sorry Ep 1-3 were much better than 7-9, but they were still actually pretty lame films, with the exception of Ep3 which was decent, but that itself , was a salvage job at the time. The prequels are average films, not great films, average. People don't want to hear it (below a certain age because they grew up with the prequels) . Really ...the prequels were the beginning of the end for Star Wars. I dont know how old you are but I was 18 when Phantom menace came out, and EP1 and 2 were not considered anything more than crap. EP3 was Lucas' last ditch effort to make the Prequels work, and whist being better than EP1 and 2 by quite some way, it was still riddled with attempts to satisfy the audience. I remember Lucas before Ep3 sounding exactly like JJ just before the release of Ep9 .I remember everyone hating Ep1 and 2 , almost as much as 8 and 9 are hated now. EP3 was considered a good film but somewhat clumsy , and could have been much much better. Also the prequels have a strange feel, which is not very Star Wars. The original trilogy were special, the Prequel Trilogy were band average and the Sequel trilogy is basically runny shit after eating a dodgy meal. I mean FFS Vader getting in his costume and the whole "Noooooooooo" crap end of Ep3, which they then went back and dubbed over the end of Return of the Jedi , when Vader chucks the Emperor down the shaft of the Death Star, that crap was added. Shit like that is just fucking terrible and makes Vader into some kind of cartoon character. 7-9 are just so bad people have forgotten how bad Ep1-3 are, I lived through it and remember it clearly, the hype pre, and the disappointment after. Just because something is fucking terrible, does not mean it makes something Average into something great

Well even though the whole palpi clone thematic is weird, it wouldt break the rule of two, because it isnt like there are 100 palpi's running around, it more likely seems that if he dies, one clone takes his place and so on. The only issue in that regard is, that palpi would always be the master who "reincarnates" himself over and over, while actually the apprentice is meant to kill his master if he is strong enough to take his place.
Lore point : Palpatine never followed the Rule of Two -> Plaeguis was alive at the time of Ep1, yet Darth Maül -> At the time of the Empire, There was Vador, but there was Mara Jade (sorry, Thrawn + Jade = same trilogy of novels, they don't go separate ways. And even so : Imperial times, rule of two, but Inquisitors... Year, Palpy never cared about the Rule of Two
Palpatine abandoned the Rule of Two long ago. Darth Maul was still his apprentice even when Palpatine was an apprentice to Darth Plagueis. Count Dooku was his apprentice even though Darth Maul was still alive even if nobody knew it. I have no idea what Asajj Ventress was in the hierarchy of everything, she was kind of just a Sith affiliated assassin. Even Darth Plageuis didn’t really follow the Rule of Two. He was so utterly convinced of his own immortality that he was planning on killing Palpatine and instate his own Rule of One. There is no need for an apprentice when he is immortal.

I like how in this movie Palpatine technically won. He caused the deaths of all the Skywalkers and took over their bloodline. Plus he probably took over Rey's body and buried the lightsabers at Tatooine as a final fu to the Skywalkers.
The bad guys won. All that healing stuff, that's the stuff Palpatine hinted that he was gonna teach Anakin - how to extend life, and nobody even had to teach Rey, like Luke said, she immediately goes dark. Palpatine won. Rey is darker than he ever was, she's just too innocent to realize it yet. She did exactly what he told her: "kill me." He's inside her (ew!) now and forever. She buried Luke's memory on Tattooine, the LAST place Luke woulda ever wanted to end up. I could practically hear Palpatine laughing as the credits rolled.
Another annoying thing that people don't seem to talk about: Palpatine zapped himself on purpose in the prequels to make himself look pathetic, so Anakin would feel moved to help him. He did it in the sequels... because he's dumb?
In the RoS, Palpatine wanted Ray to kill him, so he could posses her body. That's why he didn't stop shooting lightning, he wanted to trick Ray into killing him, and she did. It was all part of the plan.

Plot hole: So the idea is that Luke overused the force, and it killed him, likewise with Leia. In Fallen Order, didn't Vader hold back an OCEAN, while underwater? Why didn't he die? He'll he was half dead as it was.
luke literally could use the force the way he did in a constant way for 5 years before struggling a bit. i mean yoda kept using until his dead in episode 6: -in rebels he uses the same skill as luke to talk to ezra and see ahsoka in some point, and didn´t die
The solution to "The Last Ryan Johnson Film I Ever Watch" would be to skip the opening crawl, and cold open with Luke waking up screaming. Then telling Mara that he had the stupidest dream.
Jar Jar: Goes from a gungan who was kicked out of his home town to a senator (I think, something like that anyway) who had to make meaningful choices and eventually had a hand in giving over power to palpatine. In other words, actually has an arc and contributes to the plot. Rey: Starts out as a mary sue with a personality that makes Boss Nass seem like a deep character. Goes into TLJ as an edgy teen who is actually a fully grown adult who disrespects and literally assaults one of the galaxy's greatest ever heroes. Ends up in ROS with the personality of a sith, yet is "All of the jedi" and eventually steals Luke's identity and home, after fulfilling palpatine's promise of her killing him, which should have caused her to be possessed by him or whatever bullshit JJ was selling at the time. I guess it's technically development? In the same way that taking a piece of art and smearing shit over it is "developing" it.
@@lordporpoise8761 Simply moving a character from one role to another is not character development. What did Jar Jar learn? What did he struggle with? It feels like the movies felt the need to sideline the old characters, because they would outshine the new characters. But that just shows how little faith the movies had into their characters.
The only thing Rey did in the whole trilogy that made sense was Rey's parkour. At least she grew up climbing around imperial ships and stripping for parts
For me the fight at the end of TFA was good, because aside from Rey's sudden surges of force competence the combatants show what you'd expect from a fight between a former soldier with basic melee training, a parkourist who picked up some staff tricks for self defense and a seriously injured, mentally unstable and tremendously pissed off knight. The later movies have no such excuse, though the throne room fight was fun to watch. XD
I remember being 9 or 10 years old anticipating the sequel trilogy, and then I watched TFA and thought that it was alright until I realized "Wait, this is just Episode IV again. I already have it on Blu-Ray." I didn't care for Rey at all in it. Finn seemed interesting until they destroyed his character in the next two movies by making him a simp for the character that I didn't care for at all. I would've loved to see a rogue stormtrooper go on a journey to become a Jedi. Then I waited two years for TLJ. I watched and was bored out of my mind. Then I realized that it was complete dogshit. By the time Rise of Skywalker came, out it was close to my birthday. My parents asked: "Do you want to see the new Star Wars?" And I said "No." I am glad that I voted with my wallet and didn't see it in theaters. My parents decided to get Disney+, and then I said "well it's already paid for, so I might as well". I watched it and I loathed Rise of Skywalker in its entirety. I hated the plot. I hated the characters. And I hated the inconsistency with the previous eight films. Hell, it wasn't even consistent with itself. Somehow Rey survives healing Ben Solo, but when Ben heals Rey HE FUCKING DIES! Someone, please explain that to me? I don't care for Star Wars anymore, except for Mandalorian. I would say Clone Wars, but that's over now. It saddens me that I was only able to love the true Star Wars from age 7 to 9 or 10. there are only 6 star wars films. the OT and the PT the PT were mishandled but still fit in with the greater universe. the ST starts off with destroying/neutering everything the Legacy characters accomplished by starting the trilogy off for the most part right where episode 4 started with the rebels(resistance) and the Empire(first Order). All because JJ Abrams is a talentless hack who couldn't tell an original story if his life depended on it. so he blatantly rips off the material of those more talented than him liberally tosses around his mystery boxes that go nowhere and fires up his lens flare generator to distract people long enough to get big box office money on a movie with zero re-watch value

honestly, hux being a traitor was an interesting idea. The reason was in character for him; its believable that someone so petty could be in his position, and the moment was right for setting up the suspense of "well shit the heroes aren't getting out of this one"... then he just gets shot for a cheap "laugh", thus ending a potentially interesting conflict/alignment of interests, and reducing the whole thing to a shitty dues ex machina...
It made no sense though, he literally gave the speech and ordered Starkiller Base to fire and destroy multiple planets, and then they expect us to just take him as being a "spy"? I don't think so
@@shadowscythesit’s more of a situation where he no longer aligns himself with the first order, he’s still evil, he just doesn’t like the first order anymore
Eight and Nine aren’t canon for me. Anakin is still the redeemed Jedi. The first order was just an imperial remnant that was destroyed along with starkiller base, and Luke starts a new Jedi academy, his first student is Rey.
@@hopelesssituationwarrior6996 I’m not saying nine and eight can’t happen, I’m just saying the way they did is not canon to me. Maybe in eight and nine, there could be a massive galaxy wide conflict between snoke and the Republic, rather than the same rebel vs larger evil force story
Eh. I didn't mind that given the circumstances. If he had truly come back to the light, he'd know: do what has to now, self pity later. Trouble is that he died, so we never have a chance to really see him wrestle with it. It still could have been done better, but Ren for me is the least offensive part of a horribly offensive sequel.
@@basteala525 Why do people *want* to see this trilogy as offensive? It comes really down to attitude how much headache these movies give you... It is entertainment after all. If it doesn't entertain you, we shouldn't dwell on it.
@@kungolaf4499 because there's a bigger story that WAS entertaining it is ruining. And that reason applies to disappointing entries in other franchises too.
@@kungolaf4499 I , personally never *want* to be offended by anything, never mind a movie trilogy. Can't speak for anyone else. The reason why I *am* offended by the trilogy, personally, comes down to a few factors: 1) Like others said, it really shits on the previous stories that I knew and loved. TLJ had me down on the Sequels, but it was easier to ignore overall. RoS is harder to because it ultimately trivializes 5 good movies...and Phantom Menace. 2) This may be more personal for me, but I love a good female lead. They're so rare in Star Wars so when I saw the elements in Force Awakened with potential, albeit some spots that needed to be ironed out, I was excited. But I also have a high standard for such characters and Rey fails in every way. 3) Rise of Skywalker itself is an amalgam of all the things I disliked in the Sequels. The rushed narrative, the creative drought, the ass-pulls Lucasfilm calls plot twists, the overpowered main character who either overcomes an obstacle in two minutes of screen time, or crumbles under the pressure and gives up, undercooked, unrealized plot threads, and an absolute lack of respect for continuity. Finally, in the grand scheme of things, I'm not upset the Sequels sucked every moment of my life--trust me, there's plenty in 2020 that's more pressing to be upset about, lol. It doesn't change the fact that when I see the subject brought up that it's going to bring up bitter feelings, though. Let's be real. We turn to entertainment to get away from bullshit. We like stability and nostalgia and will stick to sources of entertain that have come through for us over many years. That's normal. When that industry fails you, and if it negates the achievements of the past, it's going to hurt, a lot. Baseball fans probably feel that way during the whole covid situation, or Astros fans that found out their team cheated, and ruined their championship legacy. It's just how we are as people.
I only became a fan about two years ago after seeing general grievous and Kenobi one of the coolest thing i’ve ever seen then i saw the sequels, the force awakens was bad but it could turn okay then i saw tit sucking luke killing a kid doing absolutely nothing bad, i was so disappointed
I cried when she said she was a Skywalker.. I genuinely cried. And when we got out of the cinema there was no usual chatter about the cool scenes.. Everyone was silent and went home having experienced something so bad it made my grandma's death two months prior feel better
@@N0TYALC First, How TF is the franchise ruined for you just because of the sequels? All you have to do is pretend that the trilogy was just a bad dream and consume LITERALLY any other Star Wars media. Not that hard. Also, there is this misconception that Disney is the one responsible for the terrible writing of the sequel trilogy. No, it's the fault of the actual writers of most of those movies: JJ Abrams, Rian Johnson, and Chris Terrio. And in case you didn't know, Mandalorian, Rogue One, and the animated shows are a thing. That is just evidence that further proves that the actual Disney company is not at fault here.
I didn't - because I wasn't paying to support any of that garbage. Your money empowers people like Kathleen Kennedy to continue destroying the brand and dumping on the fan base.
I thought 9 was gonna show that Snoke was actually projecting himself when he got killed in 8 in order to test Kylo's loyalty, unfortunately it was stupider than that.
The chance to have the OG crew all in the same room…talking and remembering the battles they faced and how to apply their knowledge to the new cast….and it never happened. How could you not think that’s what EVERY fan wanted to see?…
It wasn’t impossible for someone to make episode 9 better. (I am in no way defending JJ or Rian) The original script for episode 9 “Duel of the Fates” was quite good
What pissed me off was the reason they fired the dude who was supposed to do ep ix was because Carrie died before they could start production, yet they hired jj and expected him to be able to bring Leia back
This is how the last trilogy ruined everything Luke: WASTED Leia: WASTED John Williams: WASTED Skywalker bloodline: WASTED Palpatine's heir: still lives somehow
@@Silver4Hire I consider his collaboration a wasted opportunity from the producers. He could've bring out themes that might put Revenge of the Sith in the shadow. But no, also with Leia's death another golden opportunity was also gone to waste. The last trilogy, especially the last 2 movies are a huge mistake to this universe, that contradicts everything and have destroyed the original characters.
Lucas sold star wars to Disney cause he knew they would run into the ground to show how we mistreated him for the prequels. This was all a wild revenge plot to have us crawling back to him
he didn't want to take the heat if the sequels blew goat balls. that said , i think his idea of exploring the Wills of the force would have also been received poorly. in the end what fans wanted to see was luke having rebuilt the jedi now having to face a new threat with said jedi. what we got was a hot mess that killed han , turned leia in to space-mary poppins, and turned luke into a sour old cunt that tried to murder his nephew. as for the new characters they were all over the place and no one gave a shit about them because they had no back story or story arcs to them. in short , we got to watch disney rape every thing we loved about the originals, destroy what meaningfulness the originals had , and in the end ultimately we got to see disney murder another franchise we loved.
Again, so happy these videos are coming back into my algorithm again. I had almost forgotten how incredibly bad this whole Disney-Lucas Fanfiction failure was. I am fully aware of how bad JarJar Abrams is as a "creative" but hearing this all again is still very insightful. I really hate, hate, HATE that they brought back the Emperor.

Just imagine how incredibly bad this trilogy and especially these two movies were if I, a 27 year SW-fan refuse to watch 'em but binge watch again and again the other ones AND other material like Mandalorian and Clone wars to the extent of remembering each line. It's just mind boggling how disrespectful this trilogy was to the legacy of Star Wars.
Remember when Star Trek: Deep Space Nine spent _two seasons_ building up to one of the high-ups in a space war switching allegiances? (spoilers) You didn't like the guy to begin with, given he murdered a teenage girl whose only crime was trying to save her friends. And you only ever saw him planning the annihilation of the Good Guys, so you didn't really like anything he was doing. But you did feel some sympathy for the situation he found himself in. And so when he finally got to the point of saying "Fuuuuck this!" you knew where he was coming from and you were rooting for him. General Hux could have been given a legitimate reason to switch allegiances and spy for the Resista-Rebels. 3 movies versus 52 episodes is a MUCH shorter time frame, but it could have been done. But this is why you draw _a goddamn road map_ before making a trilogy!
Hux was awesome in The Force Awakens. He felt like a space Nazi and his speech about wiping out the resistance is some of the best acting I have ever seen. But then we got : “I want Kylo Ren to lose!” Fucking tragedy

@@katofdarkcrest I think in the rise of skywalker book it is explained that barely any of palpatine's clones survived, other than the weak body that became his son/rey's dad, as well as the form we see palpatine in in the rise of skywalker. Not defending the rise of skywalker, but they may have taken inspiration from TFU2
Joey Kessler The fact that theres multiple instances where Kota trains cloned Jedi just makes that quote even less impactful lmao. In SWBES he trains a clone of a Jedi by the name of X-2 who served with clone troopers and helped Obi Wan and Anakin during the battle of Coruscant by commandeering a seperatist battleship and taking out turrets on Grievous's flagship. Never played the Force Unleashed games but it doesnt surprise me that they cloned the protagonist in the sequel. I feel like I should mention that Im not defending the Palpatine/Snoke thing btw.
My hopes of a good SW sequel trilogy were dashed the moment I found out JJ was directing. What he did to the Star Trek franchise was atrocious. The writing was on the wall for Star Wars.
I held out hope until the final trailers dropped a month before TFA did. I said it looked like a vacuous retread of A New Hope, based on the trailers and the pattern of JJ's entire filmography, and no one believed me.
Not to quote Red Letter Media on this, but if JJ had been *only* in the director's seat (ie. leaving the writing/producing/etc tasks to other competent people making actual good decisions), it could have been awesome. Not unlike Zach Snyder, he's not a bad director, he's just a very poor storyteller and thus needs a solid, well-constructed script to work with.
The last Jedi killed it so bad for me that I still haven’t even seen the rise of skywalker. Sad when you think I was one of those mega fans. Thousands of dollars in Star Wars merch before the last Jedi. Nothing since

vernus red it wasn’t THAT they killed luke, it was HOW they killed Luke, and if it was the only thing wrong with the film, it would probably be ok. Please don’t make me launch into a damn list of all the things wrong with the film. Just because you aren’t a big enough Star Wars fan to understand the nuances behind rian Johnson’s stupidity doesn’t mean others can’t. Don’t even get me started on them blowing up an entire imperial fleet by jumping ONE MC-80 through the middle of it. In a universe full a droids and ship auto pilot, surely even someone like you can understand how stupid it was for “admiral gender studies” to go down with the ship. You can’t be that thick. That doesn’t even come close to the stupidity of the rebels not just jumping all their ships through imperial fleets to win the day with ZERO LOSS OF LIFE. Don’t get me started on how Luke Skywalker was literally the greatest lightsaber duelist ever but lost to a girl that wasn’t even a padawan. Don’t get me started on the stupidity of canto byte and the whole side story with Finn and Rose that went ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE. Don’t get me started on the super slow ass bombers with nonexistent shielding when the same universe contains y-wings, b-wings, and e-wings, all of which carry proton torpedoes (they blew up the DEATH STAR with ONLY 1 OF THEM) and would do just as much damage and are about 40x faster with more shielding. Don’t get me started on wasting snoke or space fuel or luke force projecting himself across the entire galaxy, something that was literally only possible by the unlimited force gods that used to be canon. I didn’t even touch Leia or admiral ackbar or Rey or the wasted potential of captain phasma. Trust me, this is an argument I’ll make you look stupid on. Ima channel my inner obi-wan and tell you, “don’t try it. It is over. I have the high ground!” I didn’t go into this film wanting to hate it. I was a force awakens defender. I like rogue one. Solo wasn’t that bad (only watched it because it was free on Netflix). I went into this film with the expectation of loving it and left feeling like someone slapped me repeatedly in the face for 2 hours straight. I would’ve defended the last Jedi IF IT WAS A GOOD FILM.
It’s terrible to wish such a fate on a director, a person just like the rest of us who had a vision others could not cope with, even if some of Rians decisions weren’t the best, he is a Star Wars fan just like us and we shouldn’t be ruining his life.
Yearlonggiant he gets paid to shit on a much better story I don’t think he cares what the fans think of him otherwise he would have made a better story
PHANTOM LINK 03 if you watch the Directors commentary for The Last Jedi Rian actually comes off as a genuine Star Wars fan, and explains each scene in depth. He even understands Luke as a characters. I highly recommend it, you can find it in the Extras tab on Disney+, if you have it.
I disagree to some extent. I think Rian did have some good ideas, but they were either executed horribly or inappropriate for the middle chapter of the trilogy. The critical analysis of the war between the Jedi and the Sith was actually a really good idea for the sequel trilogy as a whole, and would flow well with how the prequels showed the Jedi being arrogant and flawed. However, apart from a single line delivered from absolutely the wrong character (Kylo) about it being time to move beyond the Jedi and Sith, the idea goes nowhere. It should have been Luke that discovered that truth and made him the one to look for a new path forward, and this should have rolled into the trilogy's themes as a whole. Obviously, the trilogy has no themes or cohesiveness, which is a complete waste. Also, the ending where the heroes are decimated but triumphant, the bad guys have triumphed militarily but have been thoroughly humiliated and revealed how pathetic they are, and signs of hope with the force "awakening" in new heroes would actually have been a great ending to the trilogy as a whole. As in, the heroes may have lost this battle, but you know that they will win the war. However, having this be done in the middle film means there's no anticipation at all for watching the next film (as this video shows), because the villains have been undercut to the point where they are no longer a credible threat. It's like ending The Empire Strikes back with Vader pooping himself after Luke rejects his offer and Palpatine tripping over his own robes and bonking his head- you no longer care about the heroes defeating these villains.
@@lluewhyn If he'd left a single dangling plot thread that J.J. had evidently left for future writers to run with intact instead of slashing and burning it all down, I might be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but since he got everything, it looks way too much like intentional vandalism.
