I saw you video and got one of these for my Crosstrek. It wasn't the ordeal that you suffered, but there some annoying parts. Thanks for the walkthrough.
Yay for solder and heatshrink! Have a look at the TS100 soldering pens. They are super small, and take 12-24V input voltage, so you can run them off of tool or car batteries if you're out in the field.
bit of advice for putting together trim pieces, use silicone sealant on all plastic trim clips and fasteners and mating edges, no rattles ever and easy enough to take apart again if you need to
Normally I ignore the part of the video where someone says "you should subscribe" But today I listened. I like your Forester Gump videos, your editing is great, and you are pretty detailed. Most the stuff I find when looking for my Forester is related WRX videos Some are really good but a lot them are well... I'm the same way about soldering. I rebuilt a factory engine harness once and In addition to pinning new connectors everywhere I also soldered all the factory crimped campaign grounding.
G'day, Sarah! Thank you for a great sense of humor, along with going through the essentials, and Installation of a GCS Android head unit on your 2015 Subaru Forester XT!! Fabulous job! Cheers! :D
You must have been an avionics person in your past life. Im cool with almost all of your mod/ mechanic work so far until you held a handful of wires and harnesses talking about re-pinning. That's when I would tap out. Nice job
Hey Sarah, I'm Nick and found your vids bc I just bought a '10 XT Limited and love it! Looking for the best mods and upgrades for it bc I'll probably keep it forever... The fact you're a mechanic is just icing. Thanks for all the help with this.
You have the talent and ability to work on cars, make entertaining videos, quite lovely in the looks department, and you quoted from the "Lunch Lady Land" song by Adam Sandler. You are a unicorn...
"So I am going to be installing an Android... Ooohh Squirrel" LOL Okay, it wasn't a squirrel but, you get it. Seriously though, Nice/clean install. Thank you for going through the essentials necessary.
I know that head units like my old Pioneer 8200NEX will have both Apple Car Play and Android Play when you connect one of those phones to the USB. How does your Android head unit handle an iPhone that is plugged into the USB? For example, with Car Play you can use the voice button on the steering wheel to access Siri voice commands, and you can see yourApple maps on the big screen, and you can access some other apps via buttons on the screen like messages, phone, spotify, and pandora - all right from the head unit display even though they are running on the iPhone.
You know that wire looms are available to re-direct your reverse camera from the MFD to your after market stereo. Or if you are feeling super brave, you can wire it yourself
Two Sarah videos in quick fashion? Who is this person? Enjoyed the video. Can empathize with you and the wrong harness. It is such an energy drainer to think you thought of everything only to find that the parts company changed the rules. Sub? Grinder? Hoagie? I'm from Western Massachusetts. We called them grinders. In eastern MA/NH we called them Subs. What do Arizonians call them?
After you've learned the features you should do a review on it! My main question, does it use Google Maps for navigation? Is it free because it does? And does it live monitor and reroute based on traffic like it does when using the app on a phone??
It can use Google Maps if you choose to, I use Waze Navigation instead by choice though. It quite literally does exactly what an Android phone would do, its the same software, its an app based system just like a smartphone.
Nice. I have an ST just like your roommates, it has the Sync infotainment system that I'm NOT wild about. Only thing is it also incorporates HVAC controls (although it IS redundant.) Do you think your, or any aftermarket unit would be able to retain that? Looked like your roommate has a base which is what I really wanted but there were just none available when I needed to buy.
Did your stock backup camera display on the small stock display before installing the Android head unit? If so, after installing the Android head unit, does the backup camera display on the Android head unit?
I've been looking all over for some info on retaining steering wheel control I've bought an interface and all kinds of stuff I need very specific info please on which wires from my 2011 wrx factory wiring harness without navigation connect to what wires on the atoto a6 pro wiring harness and if you could please dumb it down to 5 years old understand please please I want this thing to work
Can you download any app to that? I use an offroad map app on a tablet right now that I mount to the CD slot. would rather do something like that if I can use the app
Great job Sarah, its always nice to see hot girls who have a head on there shoulders! Good VLOG (stumbled on your vid as im considering getting this for my suby) Cheers
