Hi Wade, thank you so much for reviewing my candles. I have not watched your videos for a long time and decided to try to catch up today and was so excited! Since sending you the candles, I have stopped using wooden wicks and replaced them with the RRD. These are the wicks I started with and love.I get them from Candle Wic. I have been testing ECO and CD wicks, but still working on that. Both fragrances are my own concoctions. Marcy and Grey is the brand for my "luxury that travels" collection and Lady Who Lunches is the fragrance. I really appreciate your feedback, especially on the Marcy and Grey, as I had not thought of this branding issue👍. Thank you soooooo much. You made my day!

Great video Wade Thomas!!! I really appreciate your expertise in thos industry!!! These videos allow us to see if we are on the right track or need to go another way. Thank you again!!! P.S. whenever you get caught up on these testers, please announce if and when you will be accepting more. I would love your honest critique on my candles. I am trying to start my company, but can not because my candles are still not up to the standards they need to be.

These review are amazing and so helpful! I love these reviews and feedback. It helps me as I’m learning. I’m wondering if you have an email to ask a question? Also, wondering what size do you do your tester candles? 5oz or 6oz? And wondering what wick holders do you like? I see you use a lot of different kinds. Thanks again for all the great videos! I’m working my way through them all.

Hi wade, what type of wicks would you suggest for soy candles? I use premiere wicks, but I always deal with the candle flickering. I’m in search of something better.
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 2 года назад
Most wicks flicker. It's normal except right after trimming and lighting. Then it's usually a sizing issue or just natural flickering. May people use eco, cd, premier, or even some paper cored wicks for soy

Hey wade, thank you for another video! Quick question (another one, lol): when using 464, how long typically should you start to smell a hot throw after first lighting the candle? I’m noticing mine are taking a while (about 20-30 min) to start to have a strong HT. Is this normal? Thank you
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 2 года назад
Totally normal. Depends on size of room and air flow too. Larger room usually takes longer

Hi Candle Godfather its me again seeking for your wisdom lol. I was testing a candle I made and at the first burn, the flame was good, about an inch tall. The melt pool formed quickly (exactly about an hour) and was 1/2” deep. but didnt reach the side of the container (maybe about 1/8 of an inch of wax was left untouched on the sides) The candle was burning for 4 hours. On the 2nd burn (wick re-trimmed to 1/4” and candle was allowed to rest for 4 hours.) I noticed that after 20-30 minutes, the flame would get significantly smaller, around 1/4 of an inch. The melt pool fully reached the sides of the container around the 2nd hour. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? Right now, I’m guessing that my wick is too big.. Considering that the melt pool was deep and was forming quickly. And that my fragrance oil was too much causing the wick to clog at the 2nd burn hence the smaller flame.. - I’m using a container that is 2.7” in diameter. 1.8” tall. - FO at 10% - ECO wick - 100% pure soy wax (no brand or label as we cant find the type of waxes that you use, here in the Philippines just regular soy.) - FO poured at 185F

I know you use 6006, have you noticed a major difference when burning between using 9-10%? And also what wick do you find gives the best burn? I will test a batch and CD burns good, then test another set and the LX burns better than the CD. I will never be able to pull the trigger on the proper wick for 6006.
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn Год назад
I only use a little 6006. I use a lot of waxes across the board though. 9% worked better across the board for me instead of 10%. Often I used 8%. I don't like CDs personally in 6006. Too hot, Smokey, and sooty. Lx is fine, but I prefer zinc or lx more than cd

Hi wade, I'm using 464 soy wax and no mixture in it. However I'm getting cracks in the wax. What could be the issue?
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 2 года назад
464 can have a tendency to Crack. Try to slow down how quickly it cools. But if the cracks come later down the road not much you can do. Just happens due to temperature changes back and forth

I bought i dozens of the round tins and I could never get a full melt pool. I tried almost everything.
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 2 года назад
Some waxes are tough to get melt pool in large diameters. Often takes a different wick type not just size

I would love to know the temperature of the weather, were these beautiful candles were made. Im testing with 464 & Its freezing atm here in Queensland Australia & im testing in cold weather, so i heated up the kitchen & my candles turned out different, does the weather temperature have a lot to do with the end product & which is best, a cold or hot room, please any answers would help. Thank you 😻 I will ask in the facebook group too.

I never heard of that R wick before. What waxes do you recommend them to use with?
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 2 года назад
They are called RRD wicks. They are directional wicks and more round than your standard flat braid wick. They are okay but not my favorite wick to use in any wax really. They can help its larger tough applications. But there are other options for that as well.
