"Stimming" or stimulating is a very common behavior in autism and sensory processing disorders. Often these behaviors are easily observed by others, other times they can be much more subtle. Thomas has been repeatedly rubbing his eyes since he was a baby. Once he had better motor control he began placing his fingers near, in or on his eyes. He does this throughout the day, particularly when he is focused, tired, anxious or oddly enough over stimulated. It is his way of calming himself.
