@@punkteen28 It must be the most satisfying feeling in the world to dump those hipster millenial d-bags with a BA in bullshit and a minor in horse dung out on their ears.
That's the poetry of it all. Kendall would have fought tooth and nail to keep Vaulter afloat had he been in charge of the company, and he would have been in charge had Lawrence sided with him for the Vote of No Confidence. Out of spite, Lawrence screwed over the biggest ally he had at Waystar, and he ultimately paid for it when Kendall later played the part of executioner on Logan's orders.
"Because my dad told me to." That line is so underrated af. One, yes, his dad did tell him to do it but it's also a fuck you to Lawrence for not supporting him in the no confidence vote which would have gotten rid of his dad. Also, Kendall pounded the table for Vaulter but Logan was always skeptical of the company yet Lawrence never took Kendall seriously or respected him. So, this was Kendall's big FU to Lawrence thus the "find another chicken coop" line.
The tragic irony that Lawrence never seemed to realize is that, in failing to support Kendall in the first season, he effectively doomed Vaulter. Not because Kendall was vindictive and would kill Vaulter in revenge --- even in this episode, Kendall was still fighting for Vaulter because the acquisition of Vaulter was one of his biggest goals while he was in charge. Instead, Lawrence doomed Vaulter because his petty refusal to support Kendall's leadership led to the ouster of the biggest cheerleader that Vaulter had on Waystar Royco's Board of Directors.
I think it's a pretty dead-on representation of cunty corporate management. I've been in situations like this before; not content with driving companies into the ground with completely useless leadership, they'll fire you in an impersonal way -- you either turn up to find the doors locked with a notice on the door (can't risk the proles walking away with a laptop or whatever), or they contract an external party to lay off the team as they can't face the responsibility (or just don't give a fuck). Platitudes abound. Meanwhile, the people in charge will either continue to draw fat salaries or fail upwards into another job. Even though he's a complete prick in this scene, at least Kendall has the balls to turn up and swing the axe in person. I know plenty of horror stories involving entire teams being fired by text after years of service.
The more I rewatch the scene, the more it makes me realize that Roman could never do what Kendall just did. Standing before an entire business and firing every single employee without stuttering is not at all something Roman could do. He couldn’t even vote against Logan during the vote of no confidence.
I'm sure Roman could make the decision from the safety of a conference room and harvest some skulls, but you're right, it's doubtful he'd have the balls to actually do it in person.
This might seem random but Jesus loves you and times aren’t good and we need to rely on Jesus to guide us because we see corruption everywhere and so much sin and corruption everywhere. Relationship over religion. Jesus is a prayer away and just because you haven’t had an experience with Him doesn’t mean He’s not real :)
"Is that's all you've got?" After a dude spits in his face. So powerful. Kendall is at his lowest point, a shadow of his former self, reduced to nothing more than his fathers mouthpiece. Even when someone spits in his face he shows absolutely no emotion, because his life can't get any worse. I love this show so much.
Honestly, spitting is way more bitchmade than shutting down a company cuz your dad told you to. At least take a swing if you're going to assault someone.
@@joejohn. He might as well have because spitting is already considered assault and with the level of lawyers the Roy family has that guy probably went bankrupt in civil suits/lawyer fees and went to prison offscreen.
You didn't understand. He shows no emotion not because his life is so bad, but because the spit is the lowest form of a blow, and he feels superior. That's why he asks the question. This is nothing for him.
Also the comments made by Laurence after Kendalls dad had brain hemorrhage were unacceptable. Especially considering Laurence was using shady tactics to massively inflate their numbers.
I didn’t think I liked Strong’s acting at first. I was very critical. But it’s what kept drawing me back to the show; I just wanted to see if he improved. Then I realized I disliked him so much that it was the character that was bothering me and he was doing his job tremendously well
@@mrhd3d Vaulter's ad revenue mostly comes from articles / op-eds relating to food and weed, so when Kendall shuts down Vaulter, he keeps those sections open.
@@sophievygotsky7046 Its later mentioned that he gets 5 interns to run it from the satellite office. How crazy the whole company gets fired and and a door opens for 5 random interns haha
The look of slack-jawed nothing on Kendall’s face while Lawrence is yelling at him is pretty frightening. Not even an attempt at anything resembling human emotion. Jeremy Strong had better get the damn Emmy.
kopano gatsha but they didn’t and he literally just kept walking. Part of it was that he was executing a plan of course, but he was also obviously happy to do it because of Lawrence and Kendall’s history
I dunno if it's even badass in this situation. Kinda petty and sad imo because he's under his dad's thumb after what happened in England in the S01 finale
@@mickyjoe97 I believe there is a sub-text to this.. You screwed me during the vote siding with my dad.. so now I am doing "what my dad told me to".. in fact, he tried to save the division but alas..
This show should be as popular as Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad but it’s just not there yet. I think when season 3 comes around way more people will be on board
Completely agree. Season 1 was finding its identity and season 2 has propelled it into the elite category of well-written shows. It would be more popular if HBO put more of its advertising budget into Succession instead of Westworld (hyped for Season 3, but Season 2 was a let down personally).
I don’t care that it becomes as popular as Game of Thrones.Popularity created a lot pressure and high expectations which is what ruined that show.I’d hate for the same thing to happen with Succession
@@wavealip8059 you're right. however I do appreciate the hour long episodes. it builds towards it and doesn't feel rushed. on top of that, the dry sense of humor fucken makes it 10x more worthy

I’ve never seen someone play lack of emotion so well. You need to see how he was in season 1 to see how tragic it is to see him like this. Jeremy Strong deserved his Emmy for this scene.
From 2:12 to 2:37 is my fav scene. It actually gave me goosebumps first time i watched it. Everyone is such a good actor but hands down Jeremy Strong shines all above them (my opinion). This scene makes him so fucking real and raw and while the camera gets closer it shows he doesn't care about anything at the moment or anybody. He doesn't care what happens to himself and Jeremy portrayed that SO darn good. Best fucking tv show of this decade with the best actors.
preach!!!! jeremy strong's acting in season 2, in particular this episode and this scene, is mesmerizing. he's almost suicidal yet still ruthless. and it's 100% believable.
@@davidburros8619His acting is the reason why kendall is my favorite character. Idk if any other actor could pull off the insane subtleties that are required to play kendall.
I'm surprise it doesnt get mentioned but kendall always wanted to get him back for staying neutral on the vote of confidence. He may have like vaulter but he may have saw this as a win-win. This was karmic for him to make a point of "because my dad told me to" it really translates too "if I were in charge this wouldnt have happened"
Kendall at this point in the show needed to find what little scraps of victory he could. The f**k you to Lawrence, partying at Greg's, stealing the batteries - those were the only things he could do to feel like he was on top again.
I love Kendall. There are moments like this when he's a shit, but he's still far and away the most sympathetic character. Underneath the douchery, he's kind and vulnerable. The show deliberately makes you root for him. Everyone raves about Kieran Culkin, but Jeremy Strong is a FAR more nuanced actor.
I kinda loved this moment tho. Lawrence was a shady underachieving bitch who belittled and emasculated Kendall over and over. Obviously this moment isn’t very sweet Bc Kendall didn’t even want to do this but was forced to, but I was happy to see Lawrence get what he deserved
Kendall really did believe in Vaulter. But Lawrence screwed him on the acquisition and boardroom vote. Even when trying to save them from being gutted they were hostile, wasted his time with unorganized data, and voted to unionize. He gave up a piece of his dignity acquiring and defending them and it was satisfying to see him take his dignity back here.
Sorry but this is such a misread in my opinion. Kendall didn't want to gut Vaulter. There's the scene with him, Logan and Roman where he goes to bat for them, but Logan says no and tells Kendall what to do. This scene is showing Kendall at his lowest point of dignity. Being a little lapdog for his father. Which of course sets up his arc for season 2 and the eventual finale, where he gains the confidence to break from his father again.
@@shortyrags this is not him being a lapdog for Logan, this is him getting back at Lawrence. And also, even Ken with his rose-colored glasses could see clearly that Vaulter is a bunch of bullshit
I just love the first 7 seconds and the montage of it. It shows you in an instant a helicopter ride and motorcycle drive through a busy city and avoiding traffic in a hurry. Well crafted.
How so? He’s not a serious person. He was created and destroyed by his father. Kendall wants to be a big boy, but he’s just a boy. He’ll always be his father’s son. He’s just doing what his dad did to him.
@@mondoseguendo6113 He refused to back Kendall when he was gunning for the CEO after Waystar became majority shareholder of Vaulter. Then Logan decided to gut Vaulter because it was the deal that Kendall made. Lawrence literally fucked himself when he didn't back Kendall. That lead to this moment.
@@zeonmx Also, Kendall clearly didn't forget those chicken coop comments. Kendall knows damn well if Logan had died Laurence would be a fucking dick to him.
This scene immediately convinced me to watch all of Succession. Also, Logan was wrong about Kendall not being a killer. He's got the most killer instinct out of all of the kids.
kendall does have a killer instinct, but he had to be pushed to being almost suicidal to get there. not healthy at all lol. and jeremy strong's acting is breathtaking.
Such an underrated show. The writing and cast is outstanding. Definitely already up there with GoT’s early seasons, Breaking Bad, and The Sopranos for me. Can’t wait for Season 3!
I like that season 1 and 2 were underground. Shows go to crap when they become “number 1 “ and “mainstream” just look at game of thrones. It was so awesome seasons 1-3 before the mass terrible fanbase turned it to crap. Sadly I think succession with head there since people need something to coup since GoT is gone. Hopefully it’s not this show
@@yestoES355 how did the fans ruin GOT? I'm asking legitimately. Cause the writers started slacking off and the story suffered because of it and they rushed the last season because they took the Star Wars gig which toileted into nothing.
Someone pointed out that every single scene in Succession would work as a Hitman level. "Welcome back to New York, 47. Your targets today are Lawrence Yee, founder and CEO of Vaulter, a digital news media startup, and Kendall Roy, an executive at media giant Waystar Royco and heir apparent to his father's empire. Roy is currently prowling the halls at Vaulter while Yee oversees operations in the news room. The Vaulter offices are located in the Waystar Royco building, so expect security to be tight, particularly in light of Kendall Roy's apparently unexpected decision to drop by. Tensions are high on this one 47; between Kendall's public drug issues and Yee's willingness to bite the hand that feeds we could be looking at quite the bombshell. Let's give the media a different story to report on. I shall leave you to prepare." Mission Challenges: Stop The Presses! - Eliminate Yee by pushing him into a printing press +4000xp White Bylines - Cause Kendall Roy to relapse +2000xp Fox In The Chicken Coop - Leak news of Kendall's plan to gut Vaulter and have Yee eliminate Roy +4000xp
I know he got spit in the face but after when Kendall looked him in the eye and said "Is that all you got?" He said that in such a badass way. It was like he's saying "That's it? Here look, I just wiped it off. Now go have fun in the Unemployment line."
People say he rides a motorcycle now because of the accident but personally I think it’s symbolism that he’s prepared for anything now - learning from his mistakes (won’t get caught in traffic again)
