Damn. I remember watching this exact video 10 years ago when I was in high school and it's bringing back all kinds of memories. I was deeply infatuated with this girl from Michigan who showed me Sufjan Stevens. Being a socially awkward teen with self-esteem issues though, I couldn't bring myself to ever confess that to her. I wrote a song about her and threw in the phrase "to be alone with you" in the bridge thinking she might get the hint that the song was about her. God, I'm so happy I'm not 17 anymore.
I love that Sufjan doesn't sacrifice his Christianity for his music, but he doesn't sacrifice his music for Christianity, it's the perfect balance and he pulls it off perfectly.
I’m bisexual but I haven’t told anyone yet. I’m a Christian and I feel like there’s something wrong with me because of my feelings, but this song makes me feel loved my Jesus regardless. He went up on that tree to be alone with ME
I saw him live a couple of days ago, and I literally started sobbing. He's just such an amazing person and artist! He's truly made his hark on how this century of music will be remembered.
I respect him so much for making a song thats so passionate about his beliefs and not about a girl, or his feelings, or anything emo. He's really brilliant.
I'll always remember the first time my sister introduced me to this song, I was in the kitchen and wasn't in the mood for anything, and suddenly I just heard this magnificent music coming out of nowhere (the next room lol) and I didnt know what to say or what to do, I couldnt react..I was love struck...
I was in high school in 04 in the Chicago suburbs, just waiting to move to the city to play music. The dream has become a reality. Glad Sufjan is still around doing his thing.
This is a wonderful song. He has a peaceful quality to his voice which always transports me away from real life for a while! My favourite album is Seven Swans.
If all Christians were like Sufjan the world would be a better place, full of people who practice what they believe, while also understanding the faiths of others.
This song is about Jesus Christ, the man of sorrows and Son of God. On earth he was God incarnate. He fulfilled all the prophecies, healed the sick and raised the dead to living. He willingly hung upon a tree that all mankind might be saved from eternal death. The greatest act of love. Then he himself was raised from the dead. This is the most beautiful song I have ever heard that tells of His sacrifice and love!
I don't get how you are able to argue about something as beautiful as this song. To everyone it means something else. So what? To me, it means something very special... to be alone with you, honey.
Hauntingly beautiful "you gave up your ghost to be alone with me" what a simply stunning thing so say. For we do not have a High Priest (Jesus) who was not tempted in every way that is common to every person.... tempted by the Devil in every way yet did not give in to sin. This song is for everyone. I do not understand how ANYONE could listen to it and then ARGUE with anyone. That simply does not make any sense at all.... and how offensive to Jesus who loves everyone just as they are. cheers Al
watching the OC again for the millionth time and heard this song in the background....beautiful. Greys Anatomy and The OC have the best background music, i find sooooo many great artists by listening closely during those shows
this music is so beautiful, i don't understand why you have to relate it and say " I'm an atheist and i like this" who cares if you are atheist just enjoy the music, if you don't believe in God, then get over it and listen to it. the song is to Jesus, but if you see it in another way its your perception. smile!!!
