I have a bigger issue with people who thought that the Phillies were ELITE than those who expected NOTHING from the Mets. Philly was a 500 ball club for the majority of the second half yet so many analysts thought they were the team to beat. I promise you......SD and LA are both better rosters than Philadelphia.

Ohtani's team is going nowhere. Ohtani does not field a position. Lindor is possibly the best fielding shortstop in baseball. He is the unofficial captain of a meteoric team headed for glory. Lindor has been clutch for four months. Ohtani has numbers. That's it. It shouldn't be enough.

You have NOTHING to apologize for as it pertains to your prior assessment of the Mets Sully. I bleed the orange and blue,and I too thought as you did. I too wanted us to be sellers and no one loves the Mets more than me (or very few anyway). Most Mets fans shared your sentiments. A lot of us were wrong!!!. None of us are perfect and baseball is after all the most unpredictable sport there is,and that’s why in part we love it so. LGM💙🧡.

Maybe this will help. It has been 38 years in the big city for "the other team" so often referred as, though their existence is 63 years. The closest this team has come to having a 'dynasty' type team was the late 60's to 70's team, and the late 80's team, which didn't pan out. Of those 2 teams, the Mets were able to produce 2 Championships, but nothing more. Of their existence they are 2 and 3 in championships. It is understandable to be frustrated as these opportunities for a big city market team are far few and in-between. The hunger for a championship is very real. I know the frustration when it doesn't pan out with ball players that are some how supposed to deliver not only the promise land, but the promise as well. Even teams that had the look of destiny for dynasty, seemed to have fallen short for sake of delivery because of ever so often management and off-season woes as well as on field perfomance. This team is the closest to completion in a long time and time coming. We hope for the best, but are also humbled to the worst as we know the let down unlike 'that other team' across the way. It's easy to 'we need to change things quickly' when we don't see them coming through. Patience is a short lived virtue, being so often let down for sake of development. But ever the more so we must be patient. I like what I see, but I know there is still work to be done in areas where it is deemed necessary for the long future. My hope is that these issues will be addressed. I've often advocated for a Daniel Murphy as a hitting coach, and true bullpen relief as well as long relief. So don't feel as if you are the only one whom blared out, as true fans often due for years of bridesmaid results. No apologies necessary. This team still has some holes to fix, but a championship is definitely doable. Something I have not seen since 2006 or 2015 as of recent. They are 8 victories away from delivering. We can only hope and sit tight. You can almost feel it, but it's still one pitch, one swing and one game at a time. As of that I conclude this with a LEH GOH' MEH as my two grandad's used to bellow out so many decades ago. As for me 'Lets Go Mets!' You are alright buddy, 8 more victories is all.

The Phillies bullpen only looked bad because the Mets put incredible at bats on them, just like they did the Brewers. They've done it to 2 top flight relief corps, it's not the pens (although Hoffmans 2nd inning was awful and RT left him in way too long). Watch the quality of ABs and how they put an approach on the pitcher as a unit. It's unique.

They took Wheeler out because he had thrown 111 pitches AND, as you mentioned, the Phils had a great bullpen going into the playoffs. Taking Wheeler out, with 20/20 hindsight, looks wrong. In real time, it was a no-brainer.

On the Mets. Should have seen this one coming. There's too much focus on the full 162, that's just important to get into the fall classic. Not enough focus on the last couple of months. Overconfidence, a stagnant bullpen, and maybe the burden of performance at the end doomed the Phillies, just as the 2022 Mets were doomed at the end of their season. On the Dodgers, I haven't watched more than a couple of innings of their series but I know they chased a lot of starting pitching in the off season. If they don't have the starting pitching for the post season, that's either a health issue or a true depth issue. Whether it's keeping guys healthy during the season or reinforcing their minor league. Either way, whichever team comes out of this is going to have a hell of a time against a rested Mets team.

We were all wrong....but they played like absolute shit, and if the fans don't complain, boo, or say anything, nothing will get done about it. If Jorge Lopez doesn't call the team out for being what they truly were, they never would have had that team meeting and went on that run. They would have played the same way they played in 2023, and probably would end up having the same record. Talking smack is needed. They had their dark night of the soul, and after being challenged, rose to the occasion. Nothing wrong with an of it, and you'd rather have that happen in the beginning of the season instead of the end.

Hope you learn a good lesson for next year As for the Phillies, they are a team with no heart. It was that way in '64, for 35 YEARS after that, in '22 and '23 and now in '24. I wasn-t sure in the beginning of the season.about the Mets but I KNEW, no matter what, the Phillies would blow it.
