This piece was not part of the original repertoire of this concert. She sang it specially in honor of her father who had passed just a couple days before this concert. At a later concert (or a news interview, I've forgotten precisely which it was) explained that she missed her father's funeral due to her concert schedule, as her father would have wanted her to continue with her concert and not cancel because of him.

Wow. This song, O Mio Babbino Caro (Oh, My Dear Daddy) has more meaning now after she said "아빠, 보고싶어요 (Dad, I miss you)." I remember seeing an interview of Sumi saying how she had a concert the day her father passed away, and I thought it must have been hard for her to sing that night and not be present at her father's death bed. This must have been that concert. She expressed that this news made her more worried about her mom especially, as now she is the only parent she's got. Sumi did not marry or have children, so I can't imagine what it would be like to lose her family. Today, I heard the devastating news of the loss of one the greatest sopranos to have sung in the recorded history of opera. Ms. Montserrat Caballe, La Superba. Let us just appreciate the many great works these living artists are sharing to the world.
Perfection is all I can say about Sumi Jo’s every performance! Her angelic voice is magical. She is the pride of Korea and Asia in general. I known this piece is a tribute to her late Father. He is proudly smiling down on her in every note. Love this Super Diva who takes opera to the next level. ❤️

This is so sad. I guess Jo Sumi's father died shortly before this concert, for in the end, she says in Korean, "Daddy, I miss you." She looked like she was about to cry in one part. Lots of love to Jo Sumi.

I have just seen her in London. She lived up to every expectation. She makes me feel close to her, just by her stage presence. There has never been and never will be a star as bright as her. I unashamedly love her.
Her dad passed away on the day she was set to perform in Paris. She wanted to go back to Korea upon receiving the news, but her mom asked her to stay in Paris and not disappoint the audience. She has publicly spoken about the difficulties of being a world class opera singer, being single, and rarely spending time with her family. In the end of this piece entitled "my dear papa", she yells out "I miss you daddy".
