I worked in a tropical rainforest and was bombarded daily with mosquitoes. The best thing I've found for reducing the itch of a mosquito bite is rubbing alcohol. Although it only works if you get to it soon after being bitten. The alcohol denatures the proteins of the mosquito saliva (recognized as foreign by your body). Heat also works to denature these proteins, but I find rubbing alcohol to be much easier. Even just a dab of hand sanitizer works!
Yes! My mom always had me make an X on the bug bite, and spray a cologne , or put rubbing alcohol on it. Not sure pressing an X onto a bug bite was a great idea, but it worked!
I learn something from every single video of yours no matter how many I watch. I had no idea that the protective film on sunglasses wore off and that they had to be replaced every so often. I also didn't know that we were not supposed to store them in the car or just banging around in our handbag. Thank you for always educating us!
The Aquaphor itch relief ointment is the best anti-itch remedy I've found at the drugstore. I think the occlusive base keeps it from drying down too quickly which helps to deactivate the itch. 👍
This was so great! My son is getting ready to head off to basic training in Georgia for the summer. They are very strict about medicated products, but he could do foot powder and Vaselines. This is great so he can understand things he can do to prevent as much of the stuff that you talked about and maybe treat it the best he can! Thanks Dr Dray!!!
That's what I'm talking best summer must haves (an essential summer aid kit that covers most aspects of summer activities both indoor and outdoor ones 😊❤). It's a great and helpful video that speaks for the already known to everyone merit of precaution ❤😊. Take care Doctor Andrea ❤.
For those looking for an alternative to DEET (which has an excellent safety track record but has some downsides like melting plastic) picaridin (or icaridin depending on where you are) has been working wonderfully for me for the last 2 years and hasn’t ruined my glasses like DEET would. And head nets, as “fashionable” as they are, are also great.
Which head nets do you use? Hasn’t thought of that as a shield…good idea, fashionable or not. I personally think things like Sun umbrellas, Sun hats, etc should be in fashion.😉
Fantastic information, Dr. Dray!! Thank you so much. I am a blood bank for mosquitoes ughh. I also found a tick imbedded in my upper inner thigh last weekend -- traumatic....
Thanks for this list of products to help us keep our skin happy and healthy in the Summer months. I have the Zeasorb excess moisture powder and it works well. Happy Monday, Dr Dray! I hope you have a relaxing evening. 💗
On a plane with my six yo daughter from CA to MD, she started to break out in chicken pox. By the time we got to MD the breakouts had multiplied. My sister called her pediatrician and he suggested a Domebro soak in the bath and Benedryl. In three days the bumps subsided significantly. Saved our vacation!
@@SueRosalie Yes. However, she contacted it anyway. It can be severe i.e., blisters in the mouth, between toes etc. And it can leave scarring on the skin. Luckily the onset was treated early and proved very effective. She's grown now with beautiful children of her own. Thank you for your concern.
@@maydaygarden I was vaccinated, and still lucky enough to catch chicken pox twice.😖 Worst was when I got it at 18, it was as you described…blisters in mouth, between toes, high fevers, etc. I missed weeks of school, came back just in time to fail High school final exams. This was back in the 80’s…good times😓
I am a huge fan of crystal deodorant (simply potassium aluminum sulfate). I swipe that around while pits are wet after the shower and I can even work out at the end of the day and not have any problem with odor.
Hiiii, Good day Dr.☺️ It's been a while but can you continue addressing the topic of applying estrogen as a face cream particularly for skin suffering from hormonal acne and whether or not that may cause some side effects, especially for young girls who are only doing this as a cure for their acne? I figured since we already have the Winlevi cream as the anti-androgen solution for hormonal acne, we might as well apply estrogen-promoting cream on our face as well🧐
Dr Dray can u PLEASE make a video about “What To Do When a Pimple Pops”. SO Many times I have a pimple that pops by itself. When it comes to a head & literally nobody expect from 1 person on YT has made a video about this 4 years ago. I’m sure many others would agree & appreciate this concept. Thanks in advance.🫶🏻
A suggestion for those who experience bra bands that get sweaty and damp: under bra sweat liners. Amazon has them. They look a bit weird but really help. And a question about getting sweaty under the breasts: Is it safe to use an anti-antiperspirant there?
Morning Dr Dray hope u r well n 🖐Hello Every1 n Happy Monday😀n what a Wonderful Vid…. thanks n This is Gonna b so Good🔥👍n Continued Blessings to All💜….

10:18 - great advice, thanks 👍 with this in mind, been wanting to ask what’s your thought on (toxins?) in anti-static and wrinkle release sprays for dry clothing?
Hi Dr. Dray. I’ve been following your videos regularly and I love them. All the information you give has really helped me achieve a minimalistic skin care routine that’s suiting me well. I do have cholinergic urticaria that causes itchy hives on my face- around eyes and behind the ears leading to swelling as well. Can any of the above products be used for relieving them?
Hi, I really sympathise with you, as I had hives for the first time earlier in the year...and inconveniently during Valentine's Day! They were mainly on my torso and lower legs. I didn't know what it was at first, freaking out whilst Googling my symptoms. My GP said that the hives were probably due to long COVID. To treat it, I just used an insect bite anti- itch cream that I already had in my cabinet. I covered them with multiple bandaids and then applied a cold freezer pack on top, so it wouldn't touch my skin directly...and so that I wouldn't scratch my skin to shreds. I was concerned about the dark marks that remained after hives subsided; so I have been applying hydroquinone cream to help fade the discolouration. My skin tone is light so the purplish marks were obvious. They are almost gone now, but look worse when my legs are cold. Especially seeing that you have had hives on your face, you should consider getting a hydroquinone prescription from your GP (if you can't buy it OTC) to help fade the lingering evidence. I use fragrance free Dove to wash my body (CeraVe fragrance free cleanser for my face) and the CeraVe moisturiser in the tub to keep the skin on my body hydrated and to prevent irritation of any kind. I especially didn't want to irritate the skin further by using products containing (natural or synthetic) fragrance anywhere near where I had the hives. Remember to always apply sunscreen to help the marks to fade faster and to keep your skin barrier healthy. Good luck! ❤️👱🏻♀️
Happy Monday, Dr. Dray and Friends!🌼 What a great time of year to refresh the medicine cabinet. I’m getting some hydrocortisone ointment today! Thanks for a really helpful list! ☮️💜
Dr Dray used to run outside, but purchased a treadmill during COVID...when she also couldn't utilize the gym in her apartment complex. She now enjoys using her treadmill more now it seems. Last year Dr Dray used the outdoor swimming pool more than previously, so I hope she has been taking full advantage of it this year also... Of course wearing a water resistant sunscreen. 👱🏻♀️❤️
If for any reason, people don't want to put a steroid cream on a bug bite, a friend told me to use a thick paste of water and baking soda, and apply it to the bite. It does soothe the itch and is perhaps a bit more safe than a steroid.
I don't spray DEET on my skin, but I do use it on my clothes and if I'm in a heavy tick or mosquito area, I wear long sleeves, long pants, tuck pants into socks and spray the DEET spray on my clothing, not on my skin. On my neck and hands and face/hair, I use a "natural" bug spray, not the DEET kind. Seems to work well. ("natural" meaning it has essential oils that bugs don't like, rather than DEET)
I am sensitive to eating oats. They create inflammation in my esophagus and stomach when eating it. Is Colloidal Oats safe for me topically? Or should I avoid it.
The hydrocortisone creams dont work on me. I find the cerave red itch cream works beautifully if i can use it promptly. I blow up from bites and am on various meds for allergies already. This prevents the itching and then allows it to heal faster.
@@Hemmyii so happy I could help! Dr drayturned me on to it but it took about 39 years of life to discover and being miserable prior. Hope you find relief!
Hello Dr Dray, I'm really hoping that you can advise me please. I've recently heard/read that many Mineral Sunscreens are not in fact 100% mineral as claimed because they contain unregulated chemical filters (Butyloctyl Salicylate, Tridecyl Salicylate, Ethylhexyl Methoxycrylene, Undecylcrylene Dimethicone, Diethylhexyl Syringylidene Malonate and Benzotriazolyl Dodecyl P-cresol) which are structurally similar to such chemical filters as Octisalate, Octocrylene and Octinoxate. This really concerns me. My usual Mineral Sunscreen has just been discontinued and I am now finding it almost impossible to find a replacement as they all seem to contain one of those filters. Many thanks indeed for your help.
Lol: the thumbnail = my last skincare convo with my son 😂 pan oxyl was the solution for body acne & BO for him, the spot treatment cream works great for me. So much cheaper & easier and I never get stinky anymore. I only use the almay antiperspirant for important occasions, lol, I havent had breakthru stink in a long time, 3x a week of Benz peroxide (2.5%×2, 10%×1) in the pits (and thighs, as I have recurrent staph boils) does the trick!
Hi Dr Dray, can the powder you listed be used on your chest? Especially in the summer my chest sweats and down into my cleavage and I tend to breakout and have a rash.
I have permanent makeup eyebrows & have been told by sunscreen companies that you can NOT and should NOT blend in the physical sunscreen too much or you will undo the SPF. It has to sit on the skin/brows to do its job. Well, that would mean I have white brows if I could not blend it in, and chemical is not an option because my eyes sting to death if I get chemical sunscreens anywhere NEAR my eyes (unless there are some that don't do this that I don't know of). Can you recommend one? SPF 30 probably won't protect as well as SPF 50. Thanks!!!!
I use a powder sunscreen just around my eyes (from the orbital bone to the eyebrows, basically) for the similar reasons. Couldn't find a chemical sunscreen, my eyes will tolerate and with liquid mineral sunscreen, I can't wear mascara. It always smudges within the hour, because mineral sunscreens tend to be very heavy and just don't absorb at all into my oily skin. I know sunscreen powder isn't ideal and I certainly wouldn't use it all over my face - there is a slight cakey look, if you apply enough to provide coverage (which I would assume you have to, for it to be effective), but I figure, it's better than nothing. And I tend to wear s hat when outside in the sun, anyways, so that area rarely gets direct sun exposure anyways.
Both Nivea Face Sun UV Shine Control and La Roche Posay Anthelios Invisible Fluid do not sting if they get right in your eyes. I can wear them all day and no sting.
Hi dr dray can you please tell what i can do to avoid irritation after waxing my underarms, they get irritated for 2 /3 days after waxing, i don't apply antiperspirant after wax, i apply moisturizer but still they smell bad and get super irritated , although i don't get sweaty very easily and in normal days i can go away without antiperspirant deodorants
Dr. Dray! Do you have a recommendation for sunscreen for sensitive skin? I’ve tried the Neutrogena sunscreens (with no fragrance) and some others. For some reason, I seem to have an allergic reaction to all of them. Is it possible to be allergic to the active or other ingredients in sunscreen?… I have very sensitive skin, like to the point where I should be living in bubble. ❤❤❤❤❤
Hmm off topic but I got a chemical burn in the right eye and around the eye from spreading lime fertilizer(mixed with few other ingredients to). Called the health line and was told it wasn't to server and was told healing time would be 3-5 weeks and eye drops i could get. Moisturizer and sunscreen sting like crazy when applied to the burn. Im wondering if I should just avoid putting any products there, tell it heals or if something I can put on it. without it felling burning thru me
