About that I still can't DO more then 10 SUPER/Ultra jump hits in THIS version the Attack Scarf STILL needs 30 Super jump hits and the Super Suit 100 and I can't do EITHER one.
@@veghesther3204 as far as I know, the timing window in between the jumps after 13 hits is stricter which makes you get overwhelmed like I did in 04:23 for not focusing as much. Even after successfully doing the 100 jumps challenge, I still get screwed by that mechanic sometimes lol.
@@veghesther3204press the button as soon as your eyes register mario on top of the enemy crouched. don’t try to anticipate it, you’ll press too early. wait until the frame you see him crouched on top of the enemy and press. that’s the trick I used to get my 100 super jumps in the remake. you can also watch mario’s shadow on the right side of the enemy, and push when both mario and the shadow touch. it’s all about practice - go to mushroom way, fight a spiny, and just practice. you won’t damage spinies with super jump so you can just keep practicing until you run out of fp and syrups, and then load a save when you’re ready to attempt the 100. you’ll know you’re almost there when you can consistently get to 40-50 without trying, you’ll break through once and get it done.
Extremely well done. I’m glad to see someone do this well here on that boss. It took me a whole 42 turns to win with my set up, so seeing an all out attack with good use of resources only take nine is quite impressive! I hope this video absolutely does numbers!
what if a party of you and your dad went off to fight culex but he was turned into a mushroom after taking notice how much dmg your father could do but to no avail he never turned back human leaving you to march on in the battle ; legend says both of you two never made it back in an alternate universe
It was the 1st time i play super mario rpg. I lost once against the 1st Culex, but won the 2nd time. For the Culex 3D, i lost the 1st time, but Peach was carrying my team with Mallow and Mario, making my team living. I did a 38 turns, it was insane.
@@Zrego In my first try, I beat him in 38 turns. His dialogue is the one about the power gap seen in the video (or similar). I then rematched him again, but now took 42 turns, and I got the "that is quite a long time" dialogue. I assume that whenever you fail to beat your current record, you get the "that is quite a long time", while beating your current record gives you the text seen in the video. And as getting the "that is quite a long time" for the first time you beat him: Maybe it is the same check as above, except that it compares against a pre-defined turn record (maybe 40 or 50 turns?).
I did not realize the level cap was 30. I did all of the end game at level 21-22, which based on watching this, SURE MADE A DIFFERENCE. 50 grueling turns where I was on the verge of death through the first 30-40 turns LOL
I didn't think about doing Work Pants. I discovered after a few tries that Lazy Shell Armor is a liability, as the Def increase really isn't helpful, especially with the hit to Speed, much less the hit to attack. I noticed it is important to get some healing in on the first turn before the Crystals start attacking. Also, I see that you didn't have Bowser in much. His Mag Def is so low that he's just going to die :)
Nah, it's because he lacks good utility. Take Geno and Peach for example, they have good magic skills, AOE dmg moves and healing respectively while having good physical attack power themselves, which I used in the second phase of the fight. Mallow served his purpose for nuking the Fire Crystal via weakness hits and chipping off some AOE damage with Snowy before he died. I had Bowser took over for a bit just to activate his+Mario+Mallow's Triple Move which deals multiple elemental attack to hit each crystals with great damage, but he sucks for everything else. Bowser's party buff is also underwhelming for this fight, Phys Def's kinda mid since Culex uses mostly magic attacks.
Very impressive! Currently doing a no item challenge and I’m stuck at og culex at lvl 18. Can’t do enough damage without special since I need all my fp for peach to heal/revive. Having 40+ fp in items hurts 😭
When I fought culex 3d the first time I did it in 39 turns with some prep time and I completed my 100 jumps in that battle too. I pretty much fought him blind because I avoided post game spoilers. I was so paranoid about his meteor that I kept shelving Peach in case I get Y locked. 2nd time took me 16 turns with more prep time
I managed to beat him at my level 25 in 33 turns. I had to use 3 rock candies plus freebies, 3 red essence . The 2D fight was hard too , I think I did that around level 18 and I survived enough for the crystals to run out of FP.
I’m watching this gob-smacked, waiting to see the load-out that’s giving you so much damage… only to see you got your whole team in Work Pants and otherwise very standard late game accessories. Them Moles really know how to make pants!
Can't you just do mongo damage to Culex and cause all the crystals to break at once to rez him, denying him of their buffs? Haven't tried it myself though to see if its faster.
Well said (that guy even made a typo). I do not have the super suit yet, so i cannot do that much damage. But the attack booster item is very useful tho.
It removes the 50% stat boosts you get from Geno Boost and the relevant accessories (Ghost Medal, Troopa Pin, Quartz Charm, etc.). These would also disappear upon death FYI
It also removes Red Essence's effect (invulnerability for 1 ally). Although in this strat I showcased, I ended up not needing one at all. Only Culex and Smithy have it for the reason to negate stat buffs as mentioned by the reply above since they last for the whole battle until a character dies or the battle is won, which is really OP.
@@P0chuL1ver So the stat buffs don't last until the end of the fight. You can reapply the stat buffs freely multiple times, which is why Shredder is also used by him multiple times to counter the player.
@@Zrego So like if mario has for example 214 of attack points initially, if he uses shredder, what would happen? If it's only about the boosts, I don't know the meaning of "it's gonna last until the end of the match". Can we make a difference to it?
For the fire crystal, it makes sense because we cannot use water moves, so I logically affects it. As for water, idk why fire affects it. I guess it's just the opposite type that will always affect it? The earth crystal is affected by electricity, why doesnt make sense if we accord to pokemon types. Wind crystal is affected by Mario's jumps.
It can in fact on the SNES game I could NEVER block it and its the ONLY Attack that would actually damage Peach with the Lazy shell armor but at lv 19 it won't do enough damage max 70 on the SNES version that it won't kill her instantly.
@veghesther3204 that's because you can't block it in the original, just like ALL magic attacks, while in this one all single-target magic attacks can be blocked but not AoE ones.
@P0chuL1ver I mean this post was about two weeks ago. If you don't have Geno or Mallow in your party from the start I was finding that Culex and all his crystals got the first attack. Meteor would knock me down to 1 hp and 3 crystals would attack taking my team down the rest of the way. The problem disappeared when I put them in my party
The Work Pants is one of the two armors that gives Atk, magic Atk and Speed stat, the other being the Super Suit, but unlike the Super Suit, you can get multiple Work Pants.
That and I could NEVER do the super jumps but the work pants have such LOW MAGIC defenses I could have the 4 Crystals KILL 3x Work pants users at lv 30 ALL at once in 1 turn that's why I won't equip it use Speed boosting accessories instead.
If you beat the game and then reload, Toad will come to Mario’s House and give you a Voucher for one free night at the luxury room at MarryMore. When Mario is sleeping, Geno is looking out the window and sees a light. He tells Mario it came from Star Hill. Purple Stars will be there. Once after you look at them all in each area, you can go to Frog Sage but I will tell you all locations of the Boss Rematches. You can fight Scratchy Thoat Belome in Belome’s Temple to get Mallow’s new Ultimate Weapon, the Sage Stick. If you fight Punchinello in the Moleville Mines and get Bowser’s new Ultimate Weapon the Wonder Chomp, fight Booster on a train to get Geno’s new Ultimate Weapon the Stella 023, refight a stronger version of the Cake Boss Bundt in MarryMore, Harder Johnathan “Johnny” Jones, and Jinx in Monstro Town also as a Triple Move Challenge. Tips for each fight. Scratchy Throat Belome: The Clones put up shields. His weakness is Thunder so use Mallow and have the other characters take out the Clones. Punchinello: Make sure you get Action Commands down. Hit each bomb and they will reverse and hit Punchinello. Engine 023 Booster: I reccomend you using Mallow and Peach to beat him. Make sure to have Peach use Mute. When Booster says he’s working, he will build a Train his next turn. Do not let him do that as the following attack is doing 9999 Damage to your whole group you have out, unblockable. Use Mallow’s Thought Peek to break his concentration. Bundt: Simply just target him with basic attacks and put out the candles so he can’t one shot your active team like Booster does. You will get the Endearing Brooch. Unfortunately Peach doesn’t get a new Ultimate Weapon. Just get her Frying Pan if you don’t have it because that’s her Ultimate Weapon. It costs 300 Coins from a Blue Striped Toad in the Moleville Item Shop. The Blue Striped Toad calls it a Metal Plate. Jinx: Just do Action Commands well and survive so you can use your Triple Special! Jonathan “Jonny” Jones: You can’t use items here. Equip Mario with the Lazy Shell Weapon and Lazy Shell Armor. Switch it so Geno and Bowser give you their benefits. Geno raising your Speed and Attack, while Bowser Raises your Defense. Most of Jonathan “Johnny” Jones’s attacks with do very little if they hit you. If you are good at Action Commands, there’s nothing to worry about. When you beat Jonathan “Johnny” Jones, he gives you an Extra Shiny Stone. He will give it to you even if you fight him first. However you must fight and defeat all the other Boss Rematches and Jinx. If you do so and return to Monstro Town, you will see Culex’s Dark Door respawn. You can open it with the Extra Shiny Stone, and fight 3D Culex seen here! Your Welcome! 🙂🙂🙂🙂
Mallow died so not exactly no death run haha. I managed to get it down to 8 turns with no death off-recording, but someone else has got it down to 6 turns it seems by doing 100 jumps on Culex himself.
@@bwshadowfang6160someone did a 3 turn run lol. His strat was really good, but the thing that made this guy unstoppable is the fact that he did 100 consecutive jumps everytime he used Mario's ultra jump. Same for other multihit moves.
Culex is a jokey reference to Final Fantasy games, as Mario RPG was originally a collaboration between Nintendo and Squaresoft. Culex uses the boss battle theme from Final Fantasy IV; at the time it was even taken directly from the SNES version of that game, IIUC.
@@enlongjones2394not true. The “Boss 2” from Final Fantasy 2 (US) (as it was referred to in my time, but now renamed properly as FFIV) used in SMRPG: Legend of the 7 Stars is an arrangement. Not the exact same track.
Man, i swear this comments are so annoying. It's a literal cool referrence to the 1st appearance of Culex in the original game. It's- literally only this time that he has the 2nd sprite, despite the 1st battle. EVERYTHING in the game are all modern faschioned, its only him who is in this sprite to give a flashback to the original game. I think it's you who is lazy to literally just click on the video and not watch it fully _literally just to say_ that a 2nd sprite in our current Era is too old.
