artemi7 It's not too big a deal for me, but I'm from the TASVideos community; someone there wrote a Lua script which does exactly this. I would guess that ybab321 dumped his emulator keypress movie to a video file with that script running.
For those wondering what happened at 1:19:00 where his health hit zero yet he didn't die: There's an interesting mechanic revolving around the activation of Samus' actual death animation and the game over graphic. There is a frame counter after your health hits 0 until the animation/game over sequence begins. If you pause the game before that sequence triggers, the frame counter is reset, thus allowing Samus to live a little longer with no health. Eventually, he picks up health so the frame counter stops triggering.
@@RexZShadow He meant hack as in Super Metroid Impossible. A fan remake of a game that keeps the game's code but re-arranges some elements is usually referred to as a hack.
fucking hell, that ridley part is bonkers. *No varia suit *Constant health drain from heat *While fighting a boss *That demands a lot of ammunition to beat *And any damage by it could ruin chances of victory *Also the whole route that lead to the boss was pure hell too I know this is a TAS, but that was fucking intense. Kudos.
+ZeroRemorse TAS = tool-assisted speedrun, which boils down to programming an emulator to play the game frame-by-frame. That's not to imply there is no skill involved, as the best TASs exhibit complete knowledge of the game's mechanics, lots of planning, and an eye for making an entertaining video (like in the Ridley fight, knowing EXACTLY how much you can get away with and still win).
The super nintendo has some of the best and most enjoyable games ever made. Even putting many many future releases of new games still to this day to shame. Metroid as an example is truly a masterclass in gaming mechanics and level design.
I wish they still made games like this. really the best super Nintendo game of all time. the level design and the secrets blow me away everytime. not to mention all the badass shit samus can do! amazing job by the way. shit is crazy!
+lesbiansaregoodandch they do. on gameboy ;( Check out here for some hope for the future: www.kickstarter.com/projects/iga/bloodstained-ritual-of-the-night
+lesbiansaregoodandch "bad ass shit samus can do!" i like this statement but i think nintendo forgot about samus in the wake of every other character they have.....
I love this hack, because it gets you going through the areas that one would normally bypass in a standard 100% run. It's nice to see that water bed in Norfair again!
I can’t even comprehend how much time and trial & error this must have taken. I can’t even beat this game in under 2 hours the regular way 😅 amazing job!
+ZobmieRules He did 23.50 the hard way. You can completely circumvent that issue by taking off the high jump boots. Just did it and didn't even touch the water :) Haven't made it to 30.20 yet, but not looking forward to it...
+John Doe Yeah I realised that fact far too late, dunno what was going through my head... As for the part at 30:20, you can do it by letting the snails on the wall take you up, and my wall jumping was just stalling for time, but they never followed me, I have no idea why
This isn't impossible. It's very difficult. You see, it's like the late Lou Reed said, "Very difficult is winning the Nobel Prize. Impossible is eating the sun."
Eating the sun isn't impossible you do it Everytime you eat anything that is part of the food chain, cause the base of the food chain makes its body by eating the sun ( plants)
It's named Super Metroid Impossible because when the person who made the hack made it, he thought it would be impossible to beat for a human, he made it for Tool Assisted Speedrunners. to beat.
Impressively done. Some of those heat area segments were intense, and I can't imagine beating Ridley by a narrower margin. Quick question though: Why slow yourself down with the grapple hook at 42:48?
i know i am 5 years too late but i guess he did that so the block he grappled onto would disappear, making it possible for him to go back up faster when returning
I know this is an old video and its a TAS but it's still crazy to see the hell runs done with a decent amount of health left. Saturn really made a hard rom-hack. (And in case you skip to the end of this comment, I know it's a TAS.)
It's possible to skip the boss, a new taser toke damage from the spikes besides torizo, then instantly toke bomb, while invencible from damage, he ran touching the spikes to get more speed and escaped.
I believe that it would be a nice touch to see the ending even if it was exactly as the original, IMHO. Still, an amazing video to watch, without doubt :)
+Caleb Arndt yeah... um dont play this it will kill you with your own rage but other then needing to train and hown my skills as a possible speedrunner this seems like a great hack gone kaizo however stopping at impossible
Bruh I'm on my second playthrough of this game and watching this showed me so many new areas I never knew existed. First playthrough I slammed the X-ray visor literally everywhere. Now I know where everything is but still I'm figuring out places that I had no clue about.
WOW...okay, I can see this was impossible, and TAS, but still going that fair through Norfair unprotected by the suits, killing Ridley and Torizo all while losing energy, THAT was pretty amazing. I can see you had to do it to complete the game, but thank God you got the Varia after beating Ridley. I was thinking, okay, what's gonna happen now? There is no WAY you're coming back out of this and surviving. Awesome job!
I’m hella late to the speed running party but I’ve seen supermetroid so many times before. Favorite SNES game hands down. This was my favorite to watch.
Hey man, quick question, i watched the first 25 min and wills top here to not psoiler too much. I remember that I used to play this version a while back and got stuck. Watching your playthrough makes me wonder if you runt he intented route or if you use shortcuts? Because some rooms are so messed up where I think I would never be able to get through. Did you get through because you use e.g. the perfectly timed bomb jumpes but did it earlier than you were supposed to? Or would I actually have to do this too in order to complete the game the normal way?
I watched a "Let's Play" of this previously and figured I'd watch this to see what secrets he missed. Wasn't many, but a couple of them are downright insane! Also, this game is only slightly less ridiculous to watch on TAS than BeholdMyStrenth, that shows just how f'd up Saturn is XD
2nd book from the series WOR(L)DS, a project by Raul Gubert ''3 NEW WAYS FOR SUPER METROID'' www.scribd.com/document/387580166/3-New-Ways-for-Super-Metroid
ok wow just wow that takes Skill to pull of what you did in this Video yabab321 I have to atmite am inpressed I have bin a hard core Metroid fan all my life & played this game when it frist came out & even I will atmite I cant pull of what you did in this video lol nice work have to atmite fun to watch & brings back memorys of when a frist played this game way back then lol
+VH212 no there are nit and he did state in another comment that it is just thee same as normal super metriod so we all should know how torain (cannot spell it for my life) goes.
alex3087 there's a frame after unpausing (you see him pausing and unpausing by the screen going dark) where you can perform an action and stuff continues on (like ridley dying) but damage isn't calculated. he used that frame to bridge the time the game needs to spawn health globes and jumped to be able to pick up globes in said frame.

AscalonTV ohh I didn't know about that, thank you!!!
