Slice backhand dinks has been of our most requested video topics and we're excited to bring that information to you here in this video.
Mastering the backhand slice dink is crucial if you are looking to become a high level pickleball player.
It's no secret that opponents often attack the backhand as it is generally the weaker side.
So you simply must work on it. There is no way around that. It important to keep the ball low and get aggressive with your dinks because you need to accomplish two things with this one shot:
1) prevent your backhand dink from getting attached
2) set up your attack with your backhand dink.
Jordan does a great job in this video of breaking down all the elements of a successful super slice backhand dink so you can start dominating with your backhand. Yes, it is possible!

I came from a tennis background, pick up pickleball for the past 3 years. Hitting the ball is one thing but to understand the basic about the game is another. I keep following your video and it helps me a lot to make my game better. Wish you a healthy living and fit always. Thanks for your kindness for sharing your experiences with us.

Perfect video that taught me JUST what I needed to know! For months I've been thinking my dinks land in the kitchen very consistently, but they're attackable. This makes me a better player. Awesome work! Would've been nice to see where your slice dinks landed, though.

Video right under this one from Coach Simone: don't spin your dinks!
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball 2 года назад
Get your flat dinks solid so you can place anywhere you want and then you can start mixing in spins. Simone definitely uses spin on her dinks when she’s playing as does any other very good player. It’s just that you don’t start with spins until you have good control on regular dinks.

Seems the most problem, or lower percentage, comes when it's slice, back to slice!

Jordan- Do you use a soft grip, like in regular dinking, or do you grip tighter like a groundstroke? Thanks.
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball 4 года назад
I would say between a 4 and 6 grip pressure

so, non dominant leg is defined as outside leg? great vid as usual Jordan and Nicole. Thanks.

Outside leg is probably a better term.

Question, when you slice dink, should you have a slight open face or closed?

slightly open

Just wondering do they have more people playing tennis or Pickleball? My group is below your level of expertise , we rarely have 4 people at the net !
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball 2 года назад
In general, presently, more people still play tennis than pickleball. It's about to 17 million tennis players to 5 million pickleball players or so. I expect pickleball will continue to close the gap.

Great instruction Jordan however with the positioning of the camera and seemingly more pace, it appears a lot of those shots were well out of bounds...yes??
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball 2 года назад
No, mostly in. The camera angle didn’t do the shots justice. I understand what you mean.
@robertstarner8083

Yes...You are so right Jordan!! The positioning of the net in conjunction with the court lines are really deceiving!! Really GREAT video!!

What is the swing speed of this stroke? Is it just a casual push speed?
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball Год назад
little bit faster than a flat push because you're hitting less of the ball. You also need a bit more swing to impart some spin on to the ball.
@Squaredot01
@Squaredot01 4 года назад
Maybe it's just me but these backhand slice shots seem to have more pace on them. Are you hitting these harder/faster or is it underspin?
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball 4 года назад
Depending on how high you hit your slice and how close you cut it to the net, and also where you are hitting your shot, will be factors in how much speed that you will want on your slice. Usually if you hit a faster slice, it will be closer to the net and won’t have as much arc, will is a more riskier shot.
@robertstarner8083
@robertstarner8083 2 года назад
Am I wrong but we’re the majority of these dinks hit out of bounds??

You should have said outside leg not non dominant leg. Aplayer can be goofy footed or non goofy footed witch has no bearing on witch foot to load weight on.

Hi there. Here is my concern when someone claim they are coming from tennis background...once they started playing Pickleball they throw away the fundamental footworks they learn in tennis whenever standing behind the Kitchen line. That idea is a bad habit forming to me. Now you are explaining the footwork with Slicing, i totally disagree with legs open as you were standing behind kitchen line. The super slice will become effective when you step back one step from kitchen line and do right leg over the other with slightly bent knees. It will generate spin...my crossnet drop ball usually would bite on the floor taking 45 degrees turn. Would make my opponent fool swinging. Try it.
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball 5 лет назад
You can generate slice with both stances. Open and closed. The problem is that you don’t have time to close your stance every time at the kitchen line. It is not ideal to close your stance on every single backhand. If you look at our slice return videos, we talk about the closed stance. I am well aware of this. Hitting a slice dink at the NVZ is different than hitting a slice as a return.
@redelfpickleballfundamentals

It is really does not take much effort to place one leg over at the front..because it is more solid stance and gives extra spin on the shot compared to stand up hitting with legs open. I know its doable...I've watched only one team that does backhand slice crossnet using crossleg...the mother & daughter team of WATERS. very imoressive they recently beat Simone's team...Waters both came from tennis background...both give extra space at the front from Kitchen line...not causing any hindrance in driving the ball...dictating the offensive pressure at the net.

Watch Ben and Kyle, probably the best in the game. They rarely cross step at the kitchen line.

Hi. This is all interesting stuff but Jordan says the same thing multiple times back to back and it makes the video longer than necessary and quite frankly irritating. Come on Jordan you are are a great player but don't keep repeating yourself. We are not imbeciles....

Nothing wrong with repetition if you are emphasizing a point. You can always double tap on your mobile device or hit the right arrow button to fast forward 10 seconds on the video. Great job Jordan! I really like your videos and appreciate all the effort you put in them.

Repetition is the mother of learning, the father of action, which makes it the architect of accomplishment-- Zig Ziglar. Jordan, don't change a thing, your videos are very methodical and helpful for those of us who seek to learn and not criticize.

Sorry, but Repetition is what engrains learning and what a good teacher/instructor/professor does.
