We are very lucky to be joined by our guest pickleball pro Helle Sparre.
Helle is the creator of the Dynamite Doubles System which she originally developed and successfully implemented to help countless tennis players win more in doubles. She has tweaked and adapted her system for pickleball.
Clearly, her system works as she herself has used it to win many titles including the US Open and National Championships.
She now teaches her system to Pickleball players across the country and is widely recognized as one of the best instructors around.
Helle will share some of the highlights of her system in today’s video.
Specifically, she will show us how she isolates and frustrates an opponent with advanced positioning and targeting strategies.
Before we jump on the court, it's important to understand a few key terms and concepts that Helle will mention repeatedly as they are part of the building blocks of her dynamite doubles system.
What is "In Front Of The Ball" and "Across From the Ball"?
You are the player in front of the ball if the ball is on your opponents side of the court and is straight ahead of you.
You are the player across from the ball if the ball is on your opponents side of the court and is cross court from you.
Who is the Terminator and Who is the Workhorse?
In Helle's system, the player on your team that is in front of the ball is the terminator and is looking to be the aggressor, seeking to end points by finishing shots through the opposing player closest to them which will be the one straight ahead from them.
The workhorse, is the player on your team that is across from the ball. The workhorse is seeking to setup the terminator for the kill shot.

I'm telling you guys, it's like a chess game. Planned, communicated, structured play. It uses geometry as well as physics to get a tactical game going. Lots to learn from Helle Sparre, thanks!

This video is very informative I’d like to see more videos like this. as a beginner pickle ball player see this as an aggressive system I’m sure I will join the club at work right now I still don’t see the huge incredible advantage of playing up on the net it could be the level that I’m playing at I do understand the geometry of seeing more of the court
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball 3 года назад
At higher levels of play, you always want to be up at that NVZ!
@ericsmith3301
@ericsmith3301 3 года назад
I realize the sentence at the high level do you want to be at the new Valley zone but that’s all anyone says it’s like saying at the higher level do you want to use your right hand if I stay back I have more time to see the ball to move to the ball and hit the ball I just am going up front but just standing there I don’t think I get the advantage other than I can see more of the court. Basically I think someone told somebody you have to stand upfront and they told someone and they told someone and no one ever questioned it. I’ve watched games and seen players back up in order to defend against the Valley. I’ll go up to the net and try an aggressive shot but I’m not just gonna stand there nor have I seen anyone do the same thing I’m quite happy playing from the back until someone exploits my position

There are many nuances to this sport, and it really depends on the situation. As the returning team, you want to get up to the NVZ right away. Once you get up to the NVZ line, this does not mean you have to be glued to the line. There are many reasons to play off of the NVZ line. Here are a couple of reasons… ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d53UABml40Q.html

Clarify please - this is the set-up positioning when you have predetermined the "target" and that "target" is now serving - but what if the "target" is NOT serving? OR, are you simply covering the Return of Serve Strategy and therefore stating always return cross-court back to the server...?
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball 6 лет назад
Returning CC is the high percentage return. This also puts you in the best position as the serving team-unless you are targeting the weaker player who is down the line.

Newbie to the game so here are a few questions I'm hoping you can answer. Can the returner return to either side of the court? What happens if a serve curves into and hits the non-receiving player area as it curves into the receiver side? Is the point over and the server wins the point? Lastly, If a ball hits a player during a rally in mid air (before ever touching the ground) while he/she is standing outside the back play area line (where one would serve from), is the rally dead just like an out ball or does this award the rally to the opposing team?
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball 2 года назад
The returner can return anywhere in the court. The serve must land in the cross court service box. If it lands in the box straight ahead then the serve is out. The curve is not relevant. It only matters where it lands. If the ball hits a player before it bounces, no matter where they are standing, inside or outside of the court, that player’s team loses the point.
@benhale3448
@benhale3448 2 года назад
@@primetimepickleball Thank you for the explanation. If I am serving to the quadrant to the left and the ball curves through the quadrant to the right and hits the player that is there, or that player hits the ball by accident while still in flight, does the rally end at that point and server wins the point?
@detaildon
@detaildon 2 года назад
Server would win the point. A ball isn't out until it hits the ground out.

I think, to make things simple, just pick on the one that seems to be weaker player of the two? Or The other option in worst in case positioning became front and back... i would suggest my partner to cheat in the middle and ill take care of the back court returns. Nothing is wrong with that positioning. Ill create my offensive shots from behind (may also lob the shot), and have my partner wait for any put away shots. Back court player should practice shot from afar..low to the net.

The only way to make this work is to consistently play with same teammate. Unfortunately I play with group where changing partners after every game is routine. Also having different levels makes it tough to plan good tactics.
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball 3 года назад
Yes playing with different levels can be difficult. Higher level players do these types of things naturally, because they understand the game a lot better and have more experience.
