I've had mine since 1978. You have a classic machine there! I converted mine to a 1hp electric motor......nice and quiet. After nearly 50 years, I know all of her faults. But I really love this little machine. ;-)) Stay Safe! Shalom/gw

Hey, whatever it takes to stay warm! Happy splitting.

I have the J model. The roller can be a slight nuisance at times if you don’t keep it greased and scraping the I beam as well. I got an adapter for my grease gun that snaps on the end of the grease gun at Ace Hardware. It has a very small hole that allows the grease to penetrate the bolt.

Yes to everything you said lol. I got mine this spring and sadly I've only had the chance to use it 2 times but those 2 times I split about 2 cords and if I remember right it only took me about 3-4 hours to split and stack into IBC totes. I started out with a little Generac electric kinetic splitter and that thing did wayyy more than I thought it would and still have it as a back up if needed. Like you, I run a small business (landscaping/snow plowing company) and this year with lack of help and always getting something repaired, ready for a job or ready for the next season I dont have time to blink but my hopes next year are to sell 100 cords.

100 cords - wow! I can’t imagine. Best of luck with the business!

Good machine but maybe not for lending to a friend. You need your wit's about you with that. Iv a hydraulic one so will stop if you let go of the leavers but it is slower than your machine. Good video. Stay safe 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

looks like a nice machine, may be my next splitter purchase. Noticed you weren't wearing any gloves when you're splitting wood. I always wear gloves, don't like splinters and cuts on my hands.
@birchfieldfarming
@birchfieldfarming 2 года назад
I should’ve had on gloves, eye protection, and ear protection and usually do. Taking all that off and on to film is my excuse, I suppose. Gloves are certainly a necessity!

I don't like the extra work to bring the logs back many times when it get pushed.

Yeah, some type of a four or six way cutter head would be nice, wouldn’t it?

I've had mine for fifty years. Only replaced the return spring and the ram roller bearing recently. Put an electric motor on mine ten years ago. Now it's also quiet. Great little machine. Shalom/gw PS Your right. It's a dangerous. Keep your kids away from it.

I thought of getting a super split. Bought a Splitfire. Safety was my determining factor between the two.

Splitfire…I’ll have to check that one out!
@davekana8388

Is the Splitfire a kinetic? Made in Canada maybe?
@shottyshoshco
@shottyshoshco Год назад
@Dave Kana mine is the 2265 and it is hydraulic. 18 ton with a four second cycle time. Dual splitter. With a log-lift. However, safety is where the Split-fire shines.

@@shottyshoshco Harbor Freight sells a 20 ton dual split, I know the model your referring to, GP Outdoors did a video of it. Thanks
@shottyshoshco
@shottyshoshco Год назад
@Dave Kana the Harbor Freight version of Split-fire's original duel split, does not the engineered angled stops. The angled stops make such a big difference in function and safety.

What model is this and how many cord do you split yearly?
@birchfieldfarming
@birchfieldfarming 10 месяцев назад
Very old, I believe it’s just the “J model” and as far as splitting goes we do under half dozen cords a year, NOT producing commercially here. Best of luck!

I think my biggest reservation is how to deal with big rounds that are too heavy to lift up on to the splitter. How do you deal with that?
@birchfieldfarming
@birchfieldfarming Год назад
We have a hoist, secure an eye hook on side of large wood hunk and hoist up onto table. Once split in half, repeat if necessary…saves the back!
@peteantos-ketcham3493
@peteantos-ketcham3493 Год назад
@@birchfieldfarming if you every get a chance to film that in action or can share the source/specs on the hoist set up that would be great.

Couple dozen gives us enough for family and to sell. We make 10 or so gallons a season.
