Supergirl 5x19 Kara confronts Lena about the past

Melissa’s acting was amazing. She never talked down to Lena. She clearly didn’t even want to express everything she was feeling because there was a long pause and an evident “is being honest worth it” internal battle. The entire speech is about trust. And so it becomes the question does she deserve my honesty and vulnerability. Or maybe I’m wrong, but I doubt it. Kara is the big person willing to wear her heart on her sleeve. Friendship or romantically. I love good dialog.

Kara’s reaction just reminded me that everyone knew that Lena NEEDED Kara as a friend (which is why Lena was so upset when Kara ‘betrayed’ her), but we all forgot that Lena was also Kara’s best friend and that Kara also NEEDED Lena as a friend.

I loved Karas reaction tbh. Because she kept bringing herself down and thinking it was her fault she kept saying “it’s all my fault, it’s all my fault. But I feel like here she realizes that she never did anything wrong and just hearing her saying “you never even understood that I kept my identity to protect you” makes me so proud. I loved that she stood up to Lena. Because I was tired of seeing her bring herself down

Does anyone else miss the old kara and lena, when kara was still a reporter at catco and they would see eachother every day almost?

that was sad, but necessary. now they are going to rebuild their relationship and become stronger than ever.

Wow, Kara you just said what I was thinking all the season, but I do love Lena too, and that hurts me 😭😭

“How about the times you hurt me?” Melissa killed it in this scene you can actually hear the hurt in her voice, breaking apart because of all what Lena put her through. I’m glad Kara finally said something, I’ve been waiting all season long.

Finally, this needed to be done. Yes, Kara was in the wrong for keeping Lena at a distance and not giving her the trust Lena rightfully earned over those three years. But Lena also overreacted to learning Kara's secret to the extent of DELIBERATELY wanting Kara to suffer. A friend hurt you accidentally and incidentally? That's bad, but that's no justification to hurt them back on purpose.

I couldn't help but smile throughout the entire ordeal I have been waiting for Kara to say it for a long, long, long, long time! I still love Lena though.

This was such a POWERFUL and EMOTIONAL scene that needed to happen. The truth is that hey have BOTH hurt one another through he actions.

Go OFF, Kara. This needed to be said from the season debut. She coddled Lena's feelings for so long. Its about time she let loose.

I have been waiting forever for Kara to tell this speech to Lena. As Supergirl, Kara always tries to be the bigger person, but sometimes she needs to dish out some hard truths in order for people to see sense.

I reckon Kara should have told her that she tried to change the timeline, but in every situation it got either one of them killed - That would have made Lena freeze!!

At least Kara let it ALL out. Telling Lena about all her bad decisions & mistakes. Lena manipulated her. That was a TOTAL IMBALANCE.

Lena may have been incredibly brilliant, but she was still human. Made wrong choices & poor judgement, just like any other human. She also had the disadvantage of being raised by a toxic family, who tried to turn her into something she wasn’t. Not to mention, she found out Kara was Supergirl in the worst possible way

I am so happy this happened..they needed to get this confrontation out of the way before embarking on their journey towards friendship again..lena knows that...this is beautiful..

Lots of people were complaining about Kara’s face last week when lena came to her but she had every right to react that way, I love Lena but the way she was treating Kara over keeping the secret was too extreme to just brush off, what Kara said needed to be said, but then again also supercorp arguing, im so conflicted 💔🥺💔

Ive been saying what kara said since the start of the season

Totally unrelated, but it’s like Kara never works at CatCo anymore. We’ve been looking at her personal life and her superhero life but we get so few shots of Kara actually reporting. I missed that feeling from Season 1 and 2.

That pause of disbelief and hurt before she said "you... you used kryptonite on me" broke my heart. Kara really went through some pain. I understand Lena felt betrayed but she didn't have to go overboard like that

This reminds me of the time in season 3 when Kara told Mon-El what needed to be said.

i felt so bad for Kara the whole time. even before lena knew, she didn't know how to tell her, because she knew what she had went through. honestly Kara is the best friend that Lena could have had. Because the whole time she didnt want to make lena feel betrayed, thats why she never told her. Lena found out in the worse way possible, but putting Kara through that just because she didnt tell her to she could keep her safe, was wrong. I feel bad for Lena but she shouldnt have done all those things to Kara.

It's amazing how Lena wanted Kara to say something, even if it meant shouting! She wanted to Kara to show any feelings, except indifference!

Tbh She deserved that all she ever done to Kara was trying to hurt her all season even though Lena was trying to be apologetic.

😲Kara went clean OFF on Lena, and rightly so. Actions have consequences. And Lena needed to understand how her vindictive actions hurt Kara deeply. Lena seemed genuinely remorseful. They kept it 100...(overused phrase but applicable)

everything Kara said is the same thing that I have said since Lena did what she did, finally Kara let out all this fellings, I feel sorry for Lena but it is the truth

I think Kara's been feeling this way since Lena told Kara the truth about how she felt. Kara was shocked for two different reasons: Her best friend had tried to hurt her, and her best friend was angry Kara hadn't told her about being supergirl earlier. Kara's shock about Lena's anger was stronger than her own anger which is why she didn't express her indignity earlier, and than when she forgave herself for her mistake with not telling Lena, her own anger grew stronger. That is my guess about what happened psychologically for Kara, and as sad as it is, I'm not sure that there is a better way that Kara could have let it out. If anything, every other way she could have told Lena off that I can think of, was much much more dangerous for the friendship.

As much as Kara is right about everything, Lena's guilt shown in her face is sad.

Lena deserved every word

This scene teaches people that even if you hurt someone they don’t have the right to use that as an excuse to hurt you repeatedly.

I know that Lena needed to be called out for the shit she pulled, but Kara was being hypocritical here. At the beginning of the season she admitted that keeping her identity from Lena wasn't protecting her it was hurting her, and the protecting excuse doesn't really matter cause Lena's life is already in constant danger, do people forget the amount of times that Lena's been assassinated without knowing Supergirl's identity. She was literally assassinated not once but twice in the first episode we see her! So the protecting excuse, bullshit.

Katie was brilliant in this. Make no mistake, this scene was Melissa Benoist at her best this was her moment to shine. But it's Katie's non-verbal reactions that solidify this scene. After Kara said "and all you did was hurt me in every way imaginable", Lena nods her head in agreement. That gesture was brilliant. It's a of Katy was telling us that Lena was accepting the anger. Up until this point, Lena was justifying her actions. Even when she apologized, she still felt like the lie justified what she did. But that head nod after Kara expressed her pain, that was Lena saying "yeah, I did that, I hurt you, and I'll never do it again". To be fair, Lena never EVER got angry with Kara again. Watch all of season 6 and you'll see, Lena calmly explains herself to Kara when she disagrees, she never EVER let's her anger dictate her actions with Kara again.

I have realized something something I've never seen before while watching season 3+4 for the first time but now rewatching it I came to realize that kara also made mistakes she hurt her best friend I know I know she did not mean to but she did hurt her especially when Lena was using the kryptonite to help stop reign kara didn't see it that way and that speech that Lena gave ; "a thousand of things could kill me supergirl ...you really do have a God complex"made me see from her point of view and you know what she is right I don't know what is it with Kryptonians and kryptonite but kara was two-faced with Lena it was the first time kara has made a mistake I guess Monel was right after all when he said "you are not selfless Kara Zorel" BUT the thing about Kara is that she always comes arround she did realize how big of a mistake she made and she did the right thing when she confessed to lena the truth and this reminds me of what her mother said to her at first season : "you have the heart of a hero"and she does.

She did pretend to be her friend, but when push came to shove, she didn't reveal the secret. She would have, but I remember the scene where Kara did finally reveal the secret, Lena almost cried and not for the reason Kara thought. You could see it on Lena's face, she was moved by how Kara explained it. She almost wanted to forgive her right there, but by that point, she had already started certain things moving and was to stubborn to back peddle. But you could see, she did regret at that moment. So she chose not to give the proof to Andrea

i love love love how Kara stopped apologizing and she stood up for herself and explained why she lied to her.

I liked how Kara did not immediately let Lena off the hook. She was going to have to do something serious to prove herself.

This scene is great they really need that talk, I hate hearing Kara saying that towards Lena but she definitely right, I know Kara made one big mistake even of all her efforts to apologize to Lena but Lena cage her in krytonite, but I'm happy now as long as they are good now. I love their friendship back on track, they are stronger together. Love Kara Lena

I literally cried, it needed to be said. I was expecting it. But I now live 10 years shorter after listening to this.

Those two gals have an AMAZING chemistry. In this season they are AWESOME! How their story evolves, all their scenes in this season, is the highlight of season 5 for me.

Lena needed to hear this. Every word that had to be said now that she was willing to listen. Kara had a point to make and it took Lena acting as if all is forgiven to bring it to the surface. Her secret was meant to protect everyone around her from being used as potential targets by her enemies. But all Lena could see was personal betrayal and she allowed her brother to manipulate the narrative to push her in that direction. Everything from that point forward were her own choices. She, herself, chose to lie, manipulate, and use the woman that still saw her as her best friend to avenge her wounded pride. At this point she does not deserve full forgiveness, but at least a chance to get back what she threw away. (And Kara was generous enough to do that in spite of the pain she caused.) At least in this sense she has more maturity than her brother in any incarnation. But these two have a long way to go before they are on a level of friendship and trust that they had before. Kara made this clear when she said she can't give her absolution. At this point, they may be allies, but they are in no way the friends that they were and she is only tolerating Lena. She was doing everything she could in her power to be fair and allow Lena to atone for her actions that led everything to this. But I'm glad that she got to put her in her place and let her know that it's not just about Lex or her stolen tech. It was time to stop using her brother as a excuse for the level of betrayal that she committed. It was time to stop dodging accountability.

Finally...it took us an entire season to get to this point, but finally Kara calls Lena out on all her hypocrisy. And Lena fully realised and accepted the truth of her actions. More awesome performances from Melissa and Katie. And I’m pleased that they finally worked through all their issues and can move forward together for Season 6. (That’s gonna be a long wait...)

Now Lena has to admit she had that coming from Kara after all she's done since betraying her.

I don't go here anymore, but the "you used kryptonite on me" at 2:24 reminds me of the "she lied to me" about Kara's mom from season 1. Not exactly the same timbre of anguish and hurt as back then, but similar, if less intense. Sidenote: Lena looks so much like a kicked puppy after that line...

This all really needed to be said. I am glad Kara got all of that off her chest. I love her friendship with Lena but she definitely went too far.

was that really the only reason why kara didn't tell lena though. she painted it as her only concern was lena's safety. it might have been one of her concerns, it might haven't even been her main concern but it's false to paint it as her only concern. apart of Kara didn't trust her to use her weakness against her one day. simply put, they were both in the wrong, or have we forgotten that Lena cultivated kryptonite behind both kara and supergirl's back.

While I like that Kara also gets things off her chest, this is pretty gaslight-y, she didn't make ONE mistake. She kept Lena in the dark for YEARS, while everyone in their friendgroup knew. It wasn't to "protect" her. Kara was just afraid of the consequences of her lies at one point. Plus Lena KILLED her brother for Kara. I'm not saying that any of the things she did in return were right, and the line about Lena hurting her a lot in return makes sense but not the one where she tries to play off her own mistake as something she did to protect Lena. Plus we all knew how important trust was for Lena and she trusted Kara for so many years.

What made this scene powerful was that i think up until this point, Lena felt like she was the one forgiving Kara. I'm not sure Lena really saw that it was her that needed to earn forgiveness. I'm not saying Lena thought she was blameless, but i think in her mind once she was over the betrayal, her and Kara could rebuild. This scene made Lena actually see the damage her actions did. This time Kara wasn't crying, want trying to explain our defend her actions. No this time Kara was confident, clear spoken, and angry. Lena could see how badly Kara was hurting from Lena's choices. I don't think Lena knew until now how dark she had truly become until Kara stripped away all the excuses and plainly displayed the cause and effect of Lena's actions. I also think that Lena saw Kara was done trying and that was all the wake up call Lena needed.

This scene was so awesome.

This scene was definitely necessary. But I'm really confused when Kara said "I made one mistake". Lena begged Kara OVER AND OVER again, every season to not betray her trust, to not lie to her. We all can't act like Kara hasn't done questionable things during their relationship. She may have defended her, but she also had her friends look into her, behind her back. Had James lie to Lena about sneaking at her work. There were so many situations where Kara needed to tell her, especially when alternate Lena was upset about the Reign situation. She needed Supergirl/Kara there & couldn't tell her because she didn't know Kara was Supergirl. Lena has done questionable things during this season that shouldn't be forgiven, but this isn't the first time Kara's friends had used kryptonite on her. She didn't yell at J'onn for it back in S4, he's like another father figure to her. I'm just saying, they both made mistakes that they needed to apologize for.

Is it bad i am on Kara's side on this. Everyone that knows Kara is supergirl is in the path of danger every day so she tried to protect Lena by not telling her she did it to protect her and than when Lena found out she over reacted she used Kare more than once she lied to her more than once and as soon as she got what she wanted she used the 2 things that hurt most kryptnite and there friendship. She used the trust kara had in her to get into the fortress of solitude and than used the one thing that could stop Kara to steal from her. So the way I see it Lena was in the wrong

I mostly agree with what Kara is saying. Lena was very out of line with the things she did to Kara. Something still bothers me, though, and that's that Kara thinks what she did wrong was not telling Lena about her identity. Of course she wasn't obligated to tell Lena that. Where Kara messed up was exploiting her dual identity, treating Lena one way as Kara and another way as Supergirl. In Season 3, Kara treated Lena like shit as Supergirl, but then still treated her kindly as Kara. Even when Lena made it clear that she could no longer have a relationship with Supergirl because of the mistreatment, Kara still continued to play the innocent character with Lena with her human identity. Kara says she made ONE mistake. No. She made many mistakes. So did Lena, obviously. But until Kara can realize that she made a lot more than one mistake, she's going to be lying to herself. I don't hate Kara. I think she's an amazing person. But she needs to realize that more than one mistake was made on her part, and she shouldn't pass her wrongdoings off as small.

I got to say that what kara shout out at lena about keeping her secret identity away from her and everyone else was pretty hurtful to her but true at the same time and it's also understandable because one of the benefits of being a superhero is that in order to protect the people that you care about very much and who you love so much than it's important for them to keep there secret identity save in order to keep the ones they care about the most save from criminals killers or villains from torturing them hurting them and killing them and compared to the green arrow series season 2 where death stroke was willing to kill one of oliver family members to get his revenge on him badly for letting shado die knowing that it wasn't oliver fault since ivo was the one who was willing to kill either shado or sara that's proof of one the benefits of being a hero so hopefully lena can finally better understand that before she makes a terrible decision that could hurt a lot of people so that way both lena and kara can reconnect with there friend ship and become better friends now to beat lex Luther and be better then ever before.
