Yeah, No offense to those who like their characters but I do not like them at all. John mentally abused Dean and Mary is too disconnected even after everything til season 15, I don't care how much bonding they do, I just don't think she is a great mother, She would have been if she had had more time, but she didn't, and she can't exactly retry, they are adults. She was getting back into it with Jack and I liked their relationship, but still. I don't really like her.

It kinda sad how sometimes people who act like our parent/mentor figures are more of a parent than our actually biological parents. They brought us into the world and then left us like we were nothing to them, which unfortunately happened in the real world a lot. That why I loved Supernatural this show main theme is family. Not just blood related but found families. “Family doesn’t end with blood after all.”

I wish I could like this more than once. I don't get why Amara thought Dean needed his mother more than Bobby. Maybe she just picked up on his longing for a mother based in the trauma of his childhood. But Bobby would have been so much better for them--though that would have caused an interesting situation in the most recent season!
@myriama9877
@myriama9877 6 лет назад
Ascending Fire Jensen gave a great explanation about that. When Amara said "you gave me what I needed most, I wanna do the same for you" (11x23) she didn't meant his mother but forgiveness. She may saw that deep down Dean felt angry about his mother and what she did to them. Dean helped her forgive her brother so she brought Mary back to life in order to help Dean forgive his mother. If you think about it, it makes so much sense and explains the whole "Mary" thing so much, I loved the way that jensen explained that. Despite that I prefer Bobby too. (I'm sorry about my English)

I know right? Bobby is the one that truly loved Sam and Dean. He watched over them, protected them, made sure they were kids and had fun and food and clothes. Bobby is who they needed. Not Mary.
@wtcvidman
@wtcvidman 5 лет назад
I loved the Bobby character and hated seeing him die but was ok with it because I knew that the premise of the show since the beginning was all about Sam & Dean. They could kill off every other character but if they keep both Sam & Dean and the focus on them as the first 3-4 seasons did, Supernatural would remain to be good. Cas taking on a bigger role in season 5 still worked since he was new and the season 5 plot was really perfect for him to be a part of. But skipping ahead, once Bobby was replaced by the shittiest characters like Charlie, Rowena, Mary (who I want to like but they really haven't done anything good with her other than the stuff she did on the other Earth last season), Jodie Mills (who I liked a lot in seasons 5-7 but can't stand anymore after she adopted those kids), those damn kid "hunters", and even Cas & Crowley at times just weighed down the show. Bobby had the perfect chemistry with the boys and he worked so well with them since even when he was around, it was all about Sam & Dean. Now Sam & Dean get a fraction of the screen time they used to get. There are too many damn characters. I want it to go back to the way it was in season 1 especially when they were out on the road and met characters who got a lot of screentime and detailed backstories and weren't just monster bait as the guest characters today are for the most part. I loved the first Charlie character in Bloody Mary who worked with them and helped them gain access into those houses or Lori from Hook Man. I miss the connection the Winchesters used to make with those characters. Same with Sarah from Provenance (one of my favorite female characters in the series). The old recurring characters like Ellen, Jo, Pamela, Ash, Adam, Meg, etc were awesome (I really hope they bring Adam back in a huge role in the final season of the series). I hated how they killed Missouri just to build up that damn grand daughter character of hers for that damn spinoff that never happened and I knew would not succeed even if it did happen. Something about the characters today just suck. Other than Jack, who this season has gotten annoying, I haven't liked a new character the show introduced in a while. I especially hate how anyone & everyone these days become "hunters" when Sam & Dean have been hunters for years and died so many times let alone hunter friends of theirs. It's stupid, unrealistic and waters down the meaning and hard lives that hunters lead. All these new "hunters" like those damn hunter kids, Claire, Jodie Mills, etc would not stand a chance given how a multitude of much more experienced hunters died over the course of the series. They even had to dumb down vampires & demons just for these new wussy hunters who wouldn't last a second back when Kripke was around. Look how dangerous vampires were in seasons 1-3 and even season 6 when the alpha showed up & the ones who turned Dean. Nowadays they're just bitchboys & clowns like demons & even angels. That's what happens when they make the show more inclusive of characters who have no business on this show & perform stupid retcons to create characters who were never intended for this show that have to make such monsters look weak for them to look strong.

I remember when Dean actually was brought to life again as Mary came back, you could feel that his heart started to beat again, but then, Mary destroyed everything! All the boys ever wanted was to feel her love, to know what's having a mum is like, then arrogantly without even stuttering she says she's not just a mum? Like, for real? I don't like John either, but I think it's because we always expect for mums to be the best between the parents and as John has failed completely, we hoped for the boys to finally feel a few flickers from there lost childhood. Bobby was the only good parent figure for them, he is the one they truly needed, not Mary nor John Winchester.

This completely applies to the Winchesters -- to quote the great illustrative book and movie writer Frank Miller: "The noir hero is a knight in bloody armor. He is dirty and he denies all the while that he is there to help people." The Noir Hero archetype, aka the Wounded Knight is found in myth and popular culture -- from Homer's Illiad and Odyssey, Sam Spade noir mysteries, to Supernatural's aching and beautifully flawed heroes..

@sassora
@sassora 5 лет назад
wtcvidman he raised one child properly by making the other one do it. He dragged them around and put them in danger constantly as well as ignoring them constantly and most likely physically abusing them in the name of his revenge. You’re right, I will never get how he raised them “properly”. Yellow Eyes was going to come back for Sam when Sam was in college either way. They would all have been safe and live normal lives until then. Sure, they probably would not have saved the world, but it was not their responsibility to have. They deserved a normal childhood and life, albeit short. They ended up meatsuits anyway.
@wtcvidman
@wtcvidman 5 лет назад
He never physically abused them or it was never said that he did. So that much is just speculation with no evidence whatsoever. He was an ex-Marine and raised them the way an ex-Marine who wasn't trained to raise 2 kids after his wife was killed by a demon would raise them. I really don't know what the hell people expect. If he didn't hunt, would anything have been better? How would he raise his kids and make money to support them at the same time? No matter what Dean was going to have the role he did raising Sam once Mary died. John did the best he could. Expecting any more from him is ridiculous. He may have taken the revenge to get Mary's killer a bit far, but if he didn't his boys would've been dead a long long time ago. And for all we know he thought he was doing the smart thing by hunting because I'm sure he had it in his mind that the thing that killed Mary could any day come back for his boys. In fact here watch this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HlQaNlvFKEA.htmlm37s Look at what Azazel had placed around Sam throughout his whole life and then tell me that John put them in danger. They were in danger no matter where they were raised and what type of life John led. If anything, John moving around perhaps made it harder for the monsters and demons to know where they could be found. Not to mention if they stayed in their house in Lawrence after what happened to Mary and not started hunting, they would have become victims of the poltergeist that moved in.

"I'm playing three decades of catch up," no, you aren't, you're running away so you don't have to deal with what you did to your sons, never mind trying to help alleviate their pain. Mary is just the worst.

I think people are being too harsh on Mary, at least what she did that got Sam tainted with demon blood. The Winchesters were screwed one way or the other. Their bloodline was key to Michael's & Lucifer's vessels and there was no way they were ever going to have a good life. Michael wanted Mary to make the deal with Azazel or else he wouldn't have wiped out her memory of what Dean told her and could've iced Azazel himself whenever he wanted. Then once the deal was made, Azazel had Sam surrounded his entire life with people who were possessed by demons who reported back to him as we saw with Brady and as we saw with all those people Lucifer in Sam slaughtered in Swan Song after Sam said yes. I think Michael's role in screwing over humanity to make sure his vision/plan of the future must be a huge theme when he surfaces again, which should be saved for the final season. It needs to be compared to what Azazel did with surrounding Sam with all those demons. So for that reason I don't really blame Mary or John in the past. If John hadn't raised them the way he did, they would've been dead a long time ago. Mary was in over her head the night she made the deal with Azazel with being as young as she was and having lost everyone she ever loved in a span of minutes. Michael could've intervened & resurrected everyone but he didn't & instead chose to let her make the deal because like I said, he wanted the deal with Azazel to be made & for Sam to be tainted with demon blood. But even though I don't blame her actions in her youth, I did have big problems with what Mary did in season 12. I like how she's being motherly with Jack this season like she never had a chance to be with her own children.

wtcvidman I blame Mary and John for the way the act and acted. John was being the worst father, menatally abusing his sons, especially Dean. I mean, Dean knew his Father was possessed because he told him he was proud of him. He knew his dad would never say that to him. And Mary, even though she came back from the dead, ran away when her sons needed her. She was gone 30 years and I know it is probably fucking hard to just adjust...but she just went hunting and had sex with a psychopath. Mary and John are not good parents and in my opinion should see what their sons accomplished. These guys are heroes.... not once did Mary or John tell them they are proud of them.

John was proud of Dean and he admitted it for real while apologizing to him just before he died: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xQSKQFz_MQw.htmlm28s Sure he could have & would have been a better father if the circumstances allowed, but the thing is they didn't. And if John hadn't raised them the way he did...especially Dean who he had watch over Sam & take care of him like a parent would instead of a brother...then the 2 brothers wouldn't have had the bond that ended up allowing Sam to regain control of his body from Lucifer & save the world. At the same time, they wouldn't have made all those deals either, though Mary was kind of the one who started that with her Azazel deal. I had huge problems with her actions in season 12, like sleeping with Ketch & working with the BMoL, but I give her some leeway because her entire family & boyfriend/soon-to-be-fiancee were murdered the night she made the deal and she was extremely young & in over her head to be in that position. And she didn't do anything different from what Sam & Dean did many times for each other, but yeah her actions when she came back left a lot to be desired. Mary definitely didn't know that Azazel would be coming for one of her sons when she made that deal. Had she not gone into the room to disrupt Azazel's blood ritual on Sam, she would have probably lived so we could've made a better judgment on the type of parent she would've been, but no matter what the Winchesters weren't going to be that happy family like Mary & John always wanted. Had Mary survived, 1 of 2 things would happen to Mary & John: 1) They would either be a family of hunters, which seems high unlikely unless Mary knew Azazel did something to Sam & decided to pick up the hunting mantle. But had that happened, it would've been up to Mary to introduce hunting to John & her sons since John didn't know about hunting, monsters, demons, etc until after Mary's death 2) Or they would be killed by Azazel's crew of demons who would want to keep Sam on Azazel's/Lucifer's chosen path for Sam (Jessica was killed because Azazel needed Sam to be sharp as he said & a typical mother & father would have likely been killed for the same reasons) or perhaps even killed by Sam himself like Max Miller killed his dad & almost killed his stepmom and Sam would've gone evil like almost all the other psychic kids. John's brand of parenting protected Sam from going evil, mainly thanks to Dean and the incredible responsibility that was placed upon him by John. The life of hunting kept John from being slaughtered by Azazel's gang because it kept not only John aware of demons and what they would do to his children but also kept his children sharp so that demons wouldn't suddenly attack them like they did Jessica and moreover prepared them to fight the demons in the future. And also, if it wasn't for John becoming smarter & sharper himself as a hunter and compiling the info in his journal, Sam & Dean would not have had the tools/info to do their job in the early seasons especially and in some cases stay alive considering how much they relied on that journal. The reason why they became the greatest hunters is because they built up on the foundation that John had already built as a phenomenal hunter & proverbially stood on his shoulders as the next generation. As tough as it was growing up with John Winchester as their father, it was John's obsession with hunting that made his tracking skills of Azazel so amazing as Ash commented in season 2. And when Sam & Dean took what their dad learned and built on it, it made them even better hunters & trackers than John. So there was definitely a payoff. There are 2 more scenes that people who blame John & Mary frequently forget: Scene #1: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WWFz_nErbzE.htmlm33s In this scene, we get hints of how responsible Michael was for the stuff that happened to humanity for 1000's of years in the creation of the bloodline of the Winchesters and all the events that led up to the apocalypse. When Michael talks about city hall, he's talking about himself. He's even lying to Dean by saying it's all part of God's plan to have him fight & kill Lucifer, yet we know that's a lie because when the moment that all those millennia had built up to came, God sided with humanity when He made His holy light, which was the only thing that would distract Lucifer, emanate from the Impala to get Lucifer to look at it and allow Sam to focus on the memories in the Impala that led him to regain control of his body & trap not only Lucifer but also trap the archangel running "city hall" in the cage as well. Michael had control over not only angels (seraphim & cherubim), his archangel brother Raphael, the Fate Sisters, but also reapers, who until Lucifer raised Death, had Michael as their boss. He did nothing to stop Azazel from doing what he did in 1973 to any of those psychic kids' parents. He erased John & Mary's minds of what Sam & Dean told them about the future to ensure everything would play out the way it did. He knew when & where Azazel was going to be as he was the one who gave Cas the approval to take Dean back to the past. You can see how covered with blood Michael's hands are and how much he manipulated humanity and took away the free will that God/Chuck gave them & at one time punished them for before He decided to stop punishing and let humanity grow on its own. I even suspect Michael & Azazel had a deal or arrangement because it's too coincidental that all of the psychic children of Sam's generation were born 10 years after the events in 1973 in In The Beginning. I think Michael & Azazel were working together and Michael commanded his cupids to manipulate when the generation of psychics was born (as the 10 years came up in 1983). This is a huge potential plot that I would LOVE to see done when they bring Michael back. Scene #2: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HlQaNlvFKEA.htmlm41s In the above scene we see Azazel's gang of demons that had been placed around Sam throughout his life and Brady, who Sam killed earlier in season 5, was part of that gang at one point before he was tasked with getting out the Croatoan virus. Brady not only killed Jessica but introduced her to Sam because he knew in advance he would kill her and knew what her death would do to Sam. Compare this scene to Scene #1 and see how similar the manipulation of humanity on a grand scale by Michael & those who serve him is to Scene #2 where that gang of demons along with Brady earlier in season 5 manipulated Sam specifically. And when you think about how the one who is really responsible for this scene is Lucifer, as that's where the idea of the psychic children came from as we saw when Azazel did what he did in that convent, it's eerie how similar Michael & Lucifer are. In Scene #1, Michael even says he practically raised Lucifer in ways most people would never understand, so it hints that the manipulation of humanity is one of the things Lucifer got from Michael. Michael also has a complete disrespect of humans similar to Lucifer, except instead of outright defying God like Lucifer did, Michael obeyed up to the point God left and then used humans like tools and pawns and took away their free will. So between the 2 archangel brothers and the angels, cupids, reapers, Fates, and demons that served them, the Winchester family never had a chance to have a nice, easy & quiet life. And had John not been their father they would have both said yes and destroyed the world.

wtcvidman you my good sir or madame are really good at making points, applause to you for that. But I don't think you understand my point here. I am not mad at how Mary acted back then, that she made a deal and such because yes, the boys did many of those as well. And yes, through John's fucked up parenting they lived to be stronger... but at what cost? These boys think so low of themselves, they are literally broken inside out. Yet again I know this had to happen so everything would turn out the way it did but still I think it is only reasonable to be angry at John for his actions. And Mary is being a bad mom *after her ressurection* . Before I understand, she didn't know what she was doing, she couldn't know of the concequences. But now she can't even deal with her family. She is making excuses everywhere, this video shows it perfectly. She tells Dean to act like an adult when she herself can't take responsibility of her role as a mom. It is her job now to comfort them and just be there but NOPE. She had to run away again. So again, I am not angry for her decisions before her death but for those after her ressurection.

Thanks (and it's sir btw), and I agree with almost all of what you said. I thought it was very unrealistic for the writers to even have Mary go right back to hunting given how when she was last alive she was done hunting and never wanted to return to that lifestyle. Maybe her reasons were because the life/family she had was shattered with John being dead & her being gone for so long, but her sons were still there and they needed her and she left. I agree 100% with that. Regarding Sam & Dean being broken inside & out, instead of blaming their upbringing, I blame their lives in general and all the death & atrocities they've experienced. They lost all their friends, father figures, family, and role models like Bobby, Rufus, Ellen, Jo, Pamela, Ash, Kevin, their grandfather Henry, the entire Campbell family of season 6, etc and even Garth who survived got turned into a werewolf. They were sold out to the demons by their own grandfather Samuel. Their identities were stolen by leviathans and they both died multiple times and went to hell and were tortured there. They had the incredible pressure of saving the world placed on them multiple times. I think as long as they experienced what they did, they would've ended up broken no matter how good/bad their upbringing was. I think if we look back to the pilot episode, Sam was pretty happy and very hopeful until what happened to Jessica, so I don't think John's parenting messed him up. Dean on the other hand seemed much happier than he did by season 4, but the entire point why he came to get Sam in the pilot was because he didn't have friends and feared being alone and that part I definitely have to put on John. Sam's state of being hopeful/happy prior to Jessica's death is also thanks to Dean and the way he absorbed a good deal of the flack that Sam would've had to deal with by being the big brother he was. I feel bad for Dean in that regard since I'm an older brother as well and I'm familiar with some of the sacrifices he did for Sam. Dean took it to an extreme though, as we saw how he was only really happy when Sam was happy as we saw in Dark Side Of The Moon in the fireworks scene. He never got to have his own life or identity like Sam experienced. That is maybe the saddest thing about Dean's life. That's why I blame Michael, Lucifer, demons, etc. The angels could've helped humans all that time but they chose to do otherwise. Lucifer tainted humanity by turning one of them into the first demon and then turned more of them into demons. Michael struck him down and had him locked in the cage as God commanded him to (probably to contain the spread of demons), but as soon as God left, instead of stopping the spread of demons, Michael instead chose to start a grand plan to free & fight his brother so he could kill him & flex his muscles & look like the good guy ridding Earth of evil. If you look at what Michael did, it's like a law enforcement group who knew about what waves of criminals were up to and when/where they would strike (with some of them even in bed with the criminals) but doing nothing about it and letting innocents get murdered, assaulted, raped, robbed, etc. and do nothing about it for such a long time that the criminals get built up to a point of such infamy that the law enforcement group then decides to swoop in and bomb neighborhoods causing massive collateral damage and then brag about putting an end to crime. It's really despicable if you consider that analogy, where the Winchesters would be vigilantes trying to save the innocents & fighting a corrupt government/law enforcement. That's why I can't be mad at John. I used to be mad when he treated his sons like soldiers serving under him and I understood why Sam & even Dean at times butted heads with him. But I also understand why they forgave him and understood why he was the way he was. If anything, I have a bigger problem with what John did regarding Bill Harvelle in their demon hunt if what Meg-in-Sam told Jo about John shooting Bill to put him out of his misery was true. I also understand why Dean was annoyed with what the ghoul posing as Adam told him regarding John taking him to a baseball game for his birthday and why Dean was jealous of him. But Dean quickly came to terms with how it was too late for him & Sam and how John wanted to protect Adam from the same stuff his older 2 sons were exposed to. I guess that part is kind of debatable, but as we saw, Adam who had the normal upbringing ended up dead, then resurrected, then possessed by Michael and then trapped in the cage for so far 8-10 years in the show. Some people can say that John allowing Adam to grow up normal showed that he cared more for him, yet others can say that by keeping Sam & Dean around him so he can watch/protect them & keeping them in the life of hunting to prepare them, it showed that he cared for them more. I'm on the latter side who thinks by keeping Sam & Dean in his orbit, it showed that he cared for them more because he didn't want them to end up like his wife. He even said in Dead Man's Blood that Mary's death almost killed him and he couldn't watch the same happen to his children and he told Sam in another scene in that episode that the reason he got so angry when Sam left for law school was that he wouldn't be around to watch & protect Sam. And in another episode, Dean told Sam that John used to drive by Sam's campus checking on him every now & then, so all that doting he did to Sam & Dean was an act of love. And I think that's the main point, John was hardened as a father by life experiences to such a point that the way he ended up showing love was by being tough on his kids. And this all shows that it's not only Sam & Dean who are broken inside & out but also John as well, as he too was tired of people around him dying like Mary, Pastor Jim, Caleb, Bill Harvelle, Daniel Elkins, and who knows who else. Dean himself said that John was a shell of a man when he told Mary he hated her and put all the blame on her (which like I said I don't think was fair and something he said because she needed to hear it and it would snap her out of her state). So it's a case of a broken man raising 2 sons who if not broken by their mother's death or by the life of hunting, were broken by all the crap they experienced in their adulthood. I can't blame John when he wasn't broken at the time of Sam's birth (meaning he wasn't an irresponsible man who had children when he already had mental issues) but was broken after his wife's death. I think John already being a shell of a man when he went to hell was what made him unbreakable there---because in some way he believed he deserved to be tortured and had nothing left to lose. Dean on the other hand had the knowledge of that he would become a demon had the torture continued long enough and I think his fear of becoming one is what made him break. Anyway, I already said a lot lol. It's been cool reading your comments and getting a different POV. I wonder what will happen when Mary returns to her home Earth. I was supposed to be watching the new episode (13x21) when I was typing most of this, but the episode was pre-empted by the Yankees-Red Sox game, so they're gonna show it on the weekend I believe. I hope the finale doesn't get pre-empted next week. This is the 3rd time an episode is getting pre-empted over the last 2 months. Enjoy the new episode whenever it's on in your timezone (if you haven't seen it already).

Yea, but tbh the father was correct in this situation since no one knows when Sam could be taken by the yellow-eyed demon. If father dies, then Dean has to step up to either save..........or kill him. 2014 future: They lost and Lucifer won Now: Sam no longer has demon blood and Dean is no longer a demon so let's just say it's fine.

I suggest watching the first season again and then saying that John wanted revenge more than the safety of his sons. In season 1 John sent Sam & Dean hunting to keep them trained & alert and strong so they would survive. Why do you think he was MIA? Because he wanted to get his revenge alone and not involve his kids in it. Even though the hunting life he put them in was dangerous, it was safer than just leaving them untrained in a world full of evil that would have certainly come for his boys even though for a while John didn't know what they did to Sam. Things didn't go according to plan when Meg started killing all of John's friends and John ended up having to do something he wasn't planning which ended up with him getting captured & ultimately his death when Azazel possessed him and Sam refused to shoot him and Dean had to go to the hospital where John made his deal to save him. Mary didn't want revenge either. She made a foolish deal to save John & didn't even know the terms or that her future son would be infected with demon blood as a direct result of the deal. She wanted to walk away permanently from the hunter's life and raise her kids in a normal life. Despite Dean's warning to her in the past in The Song Remains The Same and In The Beginning, Michael erased what Dean told her so that she only remembered the deal and not talking to Sam & Dean in the future (same with John). The deal was made by a young adult who was in way over her head after her entire family and soon to be fiancee were all murdered by Azazel in 1 night. It was a bad deal, but one I can't blame her for making given someone in her circumstances. If you saw The Song Remains The Same, you'll know that *nothing* was going to let Dean & Sam have a normal life. That was never ever going to happen. The head angel of Heaven (Michael) refused to let it happen. He didn't even change things so that he spared Mary from dying yet let Azazel infect Sam, because that would affect Dean (Michael's true vessel) and would prevent him from becoming a hunter & making the deal that broke the 1st seal to begin with. Most importantly, you do realize that if it weren't for John & Mary raising their children the way they did and making the choices they did, there would be no Supernatural right? They would have never met Ellen or Bobby and might have been killed before that even happened if somehow their paths would cross with those characters anyway had John not raised them to be hunters. Michael used humanity as his pawns for 1000's of years like a true dictator, yet people are mad at John & Mary. The original Michael has a lot to answer for when next he's seen on the show. Another one being how is it that all the psychic children affected by Azazel's deals were all born 10 years after those deals were made & I believe had their date of demon blood infection exactly 10 years from the dates the deals were made? Ensuring that the children were conceived was the job of cherubs, who worked for guess who? That's right---Michael. So if cherubs were involved with the conception of children and those psychic children were conceived at the proper times to meet the deals Azazel made, that's a huge correlation between Michael & Azazel and a possible partnership between them. And Azazel was always riding Sam harder than any of the other psychic kids, as if he knew what Sam's role would be (that he was the true vessel for Lucifer). It's possible Lucifer told him that Sam was the one offscreen after Azazel killed all those nuns, or it's also possible that Michael told Azazel to focus on Sam because he knew what Dean would do to protect Sam and that would get Dean to break the 1st seal & fulfill his role as Michael's true vessel. The conception of the kids on time to fulfill all those deals is already way beyond any kind of coincidence and is a huge sign that Michael took an active role in ensuring Azazel's plan was executed properly. I'm even starting to wonder if Uriel in killing all those angels in Death Takes A Holiday was serving Lucifer or if he was serving Michael and him saying he was doing it to free Lucifer & convert angels into joining Lucifer's side was Uriel's cover for when he was caught because Michael did not want anyone knowing that letting Lucifer be freed was actually what he himself wanted all along. Uriel's actions were definitely in line with letting high level demons like Alastair & Lilith break the seals, which Michael wanted, and Michael himself let them break them given how powerful he was and how he could've smited Lilith & Alastair together with the snap of a finger if he wanted.

The way Jensen played Dean's role, the depth of every emotion showing right there on his face, that is just incredible acting. This has been one of those shows where the cast's performances have been very moving, and that I say is the reason it has lasted so long. I fear for the script play though, the way they have been persistently killing any character you get attached to is just painful to watch.

Brittany Olafson in a way it’s Sam and Dean who are dragging HER into hunting rather than Mary dragging them, like John. Also, unlike John, hunting is all she knows. She doesn’t know a normal life or normal childhood, her only taste was the 4 years with John, so without him she can’t do it. The whole reason she teamed up with the men of letters was because she got her life back only to realise that no matter what efforts she made, no matter HER DEATH, she always will be trapped in Hunter life unless all the monsters are completely eradicated, which is what the Brits were promising. Mary is coloured by her perceived “failure” to give the boys a normal life vs John who didn’t see any value in “normal” life when there was revenge to be followed (obsessively and to the sacrifice of everything). Plus there’s the awkwardness of dealing with grown men almost your own age practically the day after you held them as babies. I think both her and Dean played the alienation very well.

John wasn't about revenge when he raised them. At first it was about their survival and training them to fight any evil that attacks them while also protecting innocent humans so they don't end up like the Winchesters. Sure he did pick up knowledge about Azazel all along those years that he raised Sam & Dean but he didn't go into revenge mode until he disappeared, prompting Dean to find Sam in the Pilot. That's why he left his journal to Dean, because he wanted Dean (and unknowingly Sam too who he didn't expect would join Dean after his fiancee was killed) to pick up where he (John) left off so he himself could get that revenge from a safe distance and keep his boys safe while doing so. Like John said himself, Azazel was a scary son of a bitch and he didn't expect to make it out of the fight alive, but he wanted his boys safe and continuing to hone their skills & training so that a monster or demon wouldn't get them. It changed when he got his hands on the Colt and his boys convinced him that they're stronger as a family. That ultimately led to him being possessed by Azazel & Sam's refusal to shoot him and John ultimately sacrificing himself to save Dean at the hospital after his injuries from the truck collision. But you could see once Dean's life was in jeopardy, John went from revenge mode to sacrificing himself mode and as much as he wanted Azazel dead, he instead made a deal with him. So in the end, we know Mary made a deal to save John, John made a deal to save Dean, Dean made a deal to save Sam, and it was Sam's existence that suffered which was the very thing that was at stake in Mary's deal with Azazel that started it all. So it all came full circle in a crazy way that I don't even know was intended by Kripke, but if it was, then that shows you how ahead of the curve the show was when he was at the helm. And that circle of deals wasn't even fully bought up back when Kripke was leading the show. Next they need to get into Michael's role in the deal and his role as a dictator for millennia that co-opted the natural order as Michael's own order and what type of arrangement he had with Azazel given how the cherubs, who all worked under Michael & whose job it was to ensure things like the conception of children, made sure that Sam & all the other psychic children were born on time after the 10 year marks of Azazel's deals. That is no coincidence and it's a huge red flag that has never been brought up yet but must be brought up when next we see the original Michael of Chuck's Earth. We need to see how similar he & Lucifer really are given how in The Song Remains The Same, Michael said he raised Lucifer in ways most people would not understand and how in Swan Song we get a microcosm of what Michael did in the way he used humanity as his pawns when we see what Azazel & Lucifer did to Sam by surrounding him with demons all throughout his life in that 1 scene with Sam & Lucifer in the mirror both talking to each other. Lucifer in setting that up did exactly what Michael did and neither of them could care less about humans and in fact Michael too probably despises them & he may be where Lucifer got his hatred of them from but had guts to stand up to the other angels & God and rebelled unlike Michael.

It’s because as shitty as John was he was still there sometimes, but Mary disappears for 30 years and doesn’t come back until much later and by then the boys had changed and moved on without her
@kellisuzuki8889
@kellisuzuki8889 4 года назад
@@torakunoichi It's also the part where Mary refused to leave the apocalypse world without Sam compromising and bringing a whole group of apocalypse survivors back to their world. Like, I get that Mary didn't have a real bond with adult Dean and Sam, they are basically almost strangers to her, but she didn't even seem to try and wanted to get away all the time (whether it be hunting, British Men of Letters, a cottage in the middle of nowhere, or apocalypse world) and run away from her discomfort with her boys to anything else. Then she formed a bond with Bobby that I swear is probably way stronger than her bond with Dean and Sam, and ffs she always seems so distant and cold.
@Starbits7
@Starbits7 4 года назад
Mary was completely uninterested. A real mother - finding out they missed out on so much would be scrambling to try to get to know them, to talk, be there. She barely did that in like one episode. Then she ran off to hunt. She barely even called or texted or visited. She couldn't pick up a phone? Drop by sometimes? She just took off. Personally I hate Mary & John for what they did to their boys.

I identify with this so much. I was the older of 6 with a dad who wasn’t there and a messed up mom who really wasn’t either, so I spent most of my childhood watching out for them and being a mom instead of a kid. This is just one reason why dean will always be my favorite, I get it.

The problem I have with Mary is that she says that she's playing catchup as if it's a burden. Does she not realise the pain her sons were put through? Especially Sam because he had no sense of relationship with her. Sam was only a baby when she died so it's even worse for him to see that his mother is sort of running away from wanting to be with her sons and essentially build a relationship with them. She shouldn't have said that she's playing catchup because honestly that shows who she is as a person, as well as a poor mother.
@forcryinoutloud
@forcryinoutloud 4 года назад
Sam never had a relationship with her the first time around, Dean did. It's MUCH worse for Dean - he has two pictures of her warring in his head. The mom that actually loved him and died, and the one that's trying to get the hell away from him and Sam as fast as she can because she can't deal with being a mother/doesn't want to deal with it/doesn't want to give up her life. Sam just has a stranger who he knows is his mother conceptually, but Dean KNOWS her because he had her in his life before she died.

As soon as I clicked on this video I knew I was going to cry. Damn it. Dean got dealt a shit hand from the start, he was mentally abused by his father, and all he really cares about is Sam and saving innocent people. There are so many other roads he could have gone down that didn't end good, but because he is strong and despite blaming himself for everything that goes wrong to anyone ever, he keeps doing the right thing no matter what. I just love him so much. And Jensen is such a great actor.

I really don't understand how some people out there can dislike Dean, or think that he is not the best brother ever. His every breath and every action is for his family, for his Sammy. From the age of 4, he was taught to look out for his little brother, be a mother and father to him. Dean never got to live his life, he never got to go to college, he never lived a normal life and it's unfair that Sam got to have a taste of that. I love Sam now, but tbh in the earlier seasons he just didn't do justice by Dean. Dean gave him everything he had and Sam never really appreciated it.

Oh my gosh, this is so well done! Honestly, when I first watched the scene with Mary and Dean, it broke my heart! Dean's emotions were so apparent - he has sacrificed so much and loves people so much! He has had to be a mother, a father and a brother all at once - it is more than any child should ever have to deal with! There are so many scenes in here which really show how much Dean has had to deal with - Dean is my favourite character and he is the glue that holds the family together! I love that Bobby gave Dean and Sam some sense of normalcy and Sonny was great also. The emotions... so many of them in this video!

He definitely neglected them, he didn’t do it on purpose though and he regretted what he subjected his sons to

Did anyone else really not like Mary? She didn't really add anything to the plot, what happened when she was alive could've happened without her, and she didn't really make any big changes. Plus she seemed kind of annoying or cruel at times. It's just my opinion though, and the actress was great at playing her. Don't even get me started on John. There are so many things that suggest that John physically abused Dean, and it was clear he mentally abused him too. I mean, John took away their childhood and got them into being hunters in the first place. People usually argue that its because he was traumatised by being in the Navy (?) and by Mary's death, but that doesn't excuse abusing your children, abandoning them for half their childhood and more or less ruining their life. Again, just my opinion, I guess.

This has me in tears. As an older brother myself to a seven year-old sister, I would do ANYTHING to keep her safe if need be. Our mother was-is Bi-Polar, mixed with Post-Partum/Post-Natal Depression not taken care of at all, I can sort of relate to what Dean has been through. Sure, I’ve never been physically hurt, but Emotional Neglect, Emotional Abuse and Verbal Abuse from her did and sometimes does still hurt. Like Dean, I hated myself, felt shameful about expressing my wants and needs for things like affection. Like Dean, I never ask for that kind of stuff. Like Dean, ya older siblings take the brunt of the damage caused by our parents. Dean has been through so much. Loss, neglect and abuse, torture(to protect Sam). He deserves to have rest. “And you are not a child.” “I never was.” I became an older brother seven years ago. I spent my childhood dealing with my parents and grandparents arguing. I had to mature early and grow up fast. That’s why I try to be wise at my age, because I had to become that. Hell, I didn’t have friends until five years ago. Like Dean, I wasn’t a child. Sorry, I just relate to Dean in several ways, just hearing Dean say that reduced me to tears.

I dislike how Sam's view of his parents changed over the seasons. In the beginning he was the only one trying to hold John accountable, and then after John died it was like he became some kind of martyr and all of Sam's very reasonable, correct grievances were forgiven just like that. I also think Dean's constant "dad did the best he could" defense whenever Sam tried to bring up a problem he had with John contributed, but I don't blame dean too much for that. After all he was essentially brainwashed by their father. I just think that if dean would've said "dad did the best he could" a season 1 Sam would probably have responded with "but it wasn't good enough." Or "no he didn't." But a season 12 Sam would respond with "yeah, I know." And Sam... you were right in the beginning.
@RoseETempest

That happens when people die. It is one of the sadly realistic things that the writers included in his character. I know people whose families have martyred dead relatives who had done worse. It's like it all just goes away, all except for the little snippet in their heads of 'the good times.' I hate that Sam ended up being like those people, but I'm not surprised.
