All about the supplements I've been taking for the last few years!
A note on zinc: copper ratio!:
In the video I mention we should get 10-20 x more zinc than copper in diet...
It is common practice for nutritionists to recommend a ratio of 8-15 mg zinc per 1 mg copper in diet.
I got the idea of 10-20:1 based on the Cronometer app's green area for zinc and copper ratio.
Dietary zinc:copper does not always translate to blood ratio. Iron plays a role as well.
Safest bet? Meet the RDA of all of these through a whole food based diet, and don't go crazy overboard with any of them :)

SUPER HELPFUL!!🙏💓🙏💓 Thank you!! Didn't know that about high copper in liver! You just inspired me to start eating oysters..I've inly had them once, haha. Looking forward to the histamine video, I suspect that's an issue for me as well but I haven't researched it much yet.

Thank you, I'm glad it was helpful! I added some additional notes about the zinc:copper in the description. I am in the process of becoming an AIP certified coach so I'm waiting until we get to the troubleshooting module before I do my histamine video just to make sure everything is 100% accurate! :)

Could you do a beauty (makeup/ skincare/ hair products) thoughts while on your AIP journey?? I love your thoughts and honesty on things. I love also that youre all in. Its encouraging to me. I'm not alone.

I am still on the great search for natural skincare and beauty products that I love enough to recommend. I will say, I am not a fan of Beauty Counter and their multi-level marketing strategies! I try a new body wash from Wholefoods every time I run out and so far haven't found one I liked. I use Organix shampoo and conditioner from the drugstore. It's probably not as clean and pure as others out there, I don't have a lot of room in my budget to test out a lot of beauty products right now but maybe I can see if I can get some products sent to me for review 🙂

I'm currently on day 55 of AIP. I increased my supplements when I first started, but with the intention of eliminating as many of them as possible over time. I love my bone broth and have it every day, along with more veggies and leafy greens than ever before, and (thanks to you!) salmon five times a week. Not a fan of shellfish, though I wish I were...lol. As for offal, I have tried many times and YUCK...lol! In order to get offal, I found a grass-fed supplement online that I'm taking (it contains liver, heart, kidney, spleen and pancreas). I figure better that than nothing. BUT I've got a half grass-fed cow coming next week and I'm going to try a vinegar-soaking method of preparing liver and maybe that will help make it palatable. I was taking L-glutamine, but have dropped that one now. Still taking more than I would like (D3, magnesium, selenium, C, turmeric and iodine because I use sea salt exclusively). For a probiotic I'm taking BioKult (have also used PrescriptAssist, Garden of Life and Innate Response, switching them up over time for diversity), but am going to try dropping probiotics when this batch is done and see how I do because I've heard that once the colonies are established, you just need to feed them. We'll see! It's so hard to tell if what I take even works, so I try to just go on the best information I can find! It's nice to see what someone else's supplement regimen is, too. Thanks for another great video!

I have a video on how to hide liver in a beef scramble! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JHHDZcL1Rc8.html I totally agree with you on the supplements, it IS hard to tell sometimes if something is working. I feel that way about digestive enzymes. I'll probably phase them out because I can't tell if they help or not. I wonder if there's a way to hide shellfish in a recipe...hmmm... :)

LOL at hiding shellfish in a recipe! I have tried hiding liver in recipes and doggone if I can always tell it's there! I've also contemplated digestive enzymes, but just didn't want to add another stinking pill to my regimen...lol.

It's really interesting how we figure out our best vitamin regimen.. I've tweaked mine so much over the years due to side effects, researching, and changes in my body chemistry I guess (our bodies seem to change a lot over time!) and now I've gone back to taking *half* a multivitamin (to avoid too much biotin that may cause break-outs - they put so much in there!) I still take different supplements on the side - I think my current staples are vitamin D for my skin, and oregano oil + digestive enzymes with meals to help my digestive system. I just started to try cinnamon supplements again, so we'll see how that goes 😄 I've heard a lot of good things about magnesium and zinc, and may have to try those again. How long did it take you to find this regimen, did it take a lot of trial and error? Have you had to make any changes to it over time? It's made me feel like a mad scientist at times! 😅I like the idea of just taking a multivitamin and being done with it, but our bodies are so unique it seems we each have our own intricate balance of vitamins and minerals that keeps us healthy...

Many many years and lots of trial and error and yes, have changed it often, mostly to minimize supplements and get what I can from real food. It's a journey and I'm sure most of us would be very good detectives!!!🕵️‍♂️

What is your thought on ALA supplement. I am just starting the aip and figuring out what i can eat and drink. How to replace coffee etc. I would love to hear your thoughts

Josie Seeger I just eat lots of wild salmon for DHA/EPA. AHA isn't always efficiently converted into those. There is a product called coffig that makes a great coffee substitute! amzn.to/2EoB1yJ

When you say bone broth what is the source? I do chicken bone broth, is there another critter I should be drinking?
@RealWorldAIP
@RealWorldAIP 6 лет назад
You can make bone broth out of beef bones, lamb bones, fish carcasses, etc. Might be good to change it up for variety but they are all going to provide you with collagen and gelatin :)

What is your opinion on alcohol in the gut? Do you think there are safer drinks depending on what kind of alcohol? Probably safest not to touch it if autoimmune?
@RealWorldAIP
@RealWorldAIP 6 лет назад
It's definitely not AIP compliant. as far as re-introducing it, I think the less the better. Clear distilled spirits like vodka would be my personal choice. Definitely no beer unless gluten free...

re: oysters -- do you only eat fresh oysters, or do you ever eat canned oysters? (asking since they're cheaper) i've been getting my oyster fix mainly from the canned (smoked) oysters sold at trader joe's, curious what you think of them, if you think there might be any issues with canned, etc.
@RealWorldAIP
@RealWorldAIP 6 лет назад
For me it's a texture thing, I just don't enjoy the canned oysters. I would eat them if I could find a way to make them more palatable- the heat during the canning process won't affect the zinc content so they are still good for that. Hmmm, maybe some kind of oyster pate/spread...I'm gonna work on that!! :)
@jraaccounts
@jraaccounts 6 лет назад
good to know. and yeah, an oyster pate sounds good! i generally don't like the taste of smoked anything. so i'm not a HUGE fan of smoked oysters. but luckily the smoke flavor is pretty mild so i just put up with it. they taste oyster-y enough to me to enjoy ;-)

I don't like the smoked flavor either, will look for unsmoked for my pate experiment!

Hi Stacy, do you ever get tested or are you concerned with high mercury from eating fish daily? I get nervous about eating it more than twice a week. Thank you 😊
@RealWorldAIP
@RealWorldAIP 5 лет назад
I don't worry at all, I just stick to seafood that has very low levels of mercury, like wild alaskan salmon, oysters, clams, mussels and scallops. I might eat tuna once a year. I never eat swordfish! This is a great article that should set your mind at ease🙂: www.thepaleomom.com/the-mercury-content-of-seafood-should/

Most bone broths are actually low in calcium because people don't make it with enough vinegar to extract the calcium. There is a method to this, that I've never seen mentioned in a paleo cookbook, so I think people really need to be taking calcium if they aren't eating enough bone-in fish or dairy. I get K2 in fermented skate liver oil. You probably can't take that, since it is fermented.
@RealWorldAIP

Good point! Yeah, I do have to avoid fermented things.

Gelatin comes from beef. I am sensitive to beef so I stay away from gelatin... Truth is, I'm sensitive to any grain fed protein including farm raised salmon. I'm new to your channel, but you can make bone broth from any protein that you can tolerate, including fish. I make my bone broth from chicken in a crockpot. ❤🌅🌵

Hi Suzi! I have tried making bone broth with lamb, goat, and fish bones all with the same digestive effects. I can't have chicken because it gives me migraines. Sometimes I just chalk it up as "my body is weird" and learn to work around it, lol!! I'm glad you found a way to get gelatin into your diet. I agree with you on the grain fed meat and farmed salmon.

RealWorldAIP, when you make bone broth do you add lemon juice? With love 💝from sunny☀Arizona 🌵.
@RealWorldAIP
@RealWorldAIP 6 лет назад
I did use lemon juice as many of the recipes say you need an acidic ingredient to get the minerals out of the bones...but then I also tried it without because I was in a rush.
