I agree, but this is criticism according to standards, its like calling people who dont have commercial beauty standards ugly. If everyone could hit those smooth notes with no originality, music would be boring and no artist would have their own print in the music they make.

Camila feels like she knows her limits and sticks to them , her strength lays in her runs and that’s also the place she likes to experiment, but she’s stable and her tone also helps a lot
Jisoo has issues. She can't support notes and does crack a lot but she's my favourite one in this video. I just wish YG would give her more training, she would sound sooo good.

Honestly I think having perfect pitch has hindered many of the singers who claim to have it. They don’t spend as much time developing their voices/pitch , most likely due to it being so easy for them. But Lisa Cimorelli and Charlie Puth both have issues with their intonation, especially with their vocal runs and they both claim to have perfect pitch.
@@knaxorhaving perfect pitch doesn't mean you're singing on pitch all the time. It means that when you hear a note you'll be able to tell what note that is without thinking about it. To make it more clear, when you see a color you don't have to think about whether that's green or red, you just know it without thinking about it and for people with perfect pitch it's the same with notes.
Music theory has nothing to do with singing ability. Perfect pitch is also only helpful in singing if you use it not to sing off pitch, but he still sings off pitch lol

Billie Eilish has excellent breath control and supports really well. She definitely has the potential to be a great vocalist, I think she just prefers to use a softer, breathier voice as that seems to be her style.
@@OliverHeikkinen she also has asthma and I went to her show and even tho she was singing low she has breath control and that’s crazy cause I don’t even have asthma and when I try to sing low while jumping like Billie in her shows and being so out of breath, almost nothing comes out. Oof Camila :(( I understand it though since her highs are sometimes a bit shaky and off-centered. But she has a surprisingly amazing low register for a high soprano like her. Nice video!
Billie's got an amazing tone, but her technique is inexistent. Edit: Yes, I do know she's got some technique, but she doesn't seem to have a single clue of what she is doing while singing. She probably doesn't know anything about resonance spots, mouth placement and things like that.
I wouldn't say Inexistent because to sing the way she does, U need a technique since Whispering can be damaging sometimes especially on a world tour like she was on a few months ago before COVID hit
You can be a great vocalist and have weak material. It takes more than just great singing to survive in the music industry. You have artists who could sing but are not vocalists, however they have so much musical knowledge and other superhuman musical abilities. Music is more than just singing and singing is not the only musical talent. I think being a musician and composer is underrated in comparison to singing. Many artists/musicians are often overlooked because they don't have a golden voice or is this superb vocalist.
Preach! This is also why singers with mediocre abilities are doing so well, because they have incredible songs! Katy Perry? Doesn’t have the most refined musical instrument, but she has killer songs. Same with Justin Bieber; his songs are so catchy, but as shown here, he’s not the best singer out there. Sara Bareilles is a phenomenal song writer and her vocals are killer! But she’s only known for Love Song because that single was catchy enough to be mainstream enough. Long story short, I agree with you completely.
@BlackMamba their performances have nothing to do with their music and singing abilities/musical talents. But Katy Perry and JLO are more performers than musicians anyway. I’m gonna guess it’ll go: Lauren > Ally > Camila > Dinah > Normani Honestly, I haven’t heard Normani doing much singing by itself (ie like a ballad) and she’s always doing an intense choreographed performance which could detract from her ability to give her best performance vocally. So, Idk if she s a better vocalist than I’ve heard (which, I’m sure she is).
I think beside Charlie being not so good in overall technically, his biggest quality as a singer is to be jealous of: he's usually very accurate when it comes to pitch even if it's off-key it's almost humanly pretty his 'off key moments' cause sounds metallic, I never seen him off key his pitch accuracy is insane! *He has perfect pitch, I think we know it...I also have perfect pitch it's insane*
I love Camila but yeah she need to improve her technique, her lower register is pretty awesome for me specially for a high soprano like her, but she definetly lacks support, I mean for someone who can go down to Bb2, she barely support G3's, her belts also need work, sometimes she's too chesty and tense (like you said on the video), even tho she improved a lot recently, she still needs work imo, awesome video!

Billie’s singing is just so beautiful. It’s better to be solid in a limited range than to be recording super difficult vocals that you just end up lip syncing or dodging. And head voice and falsetto aren’t easy to control anyway, especially when you don’t have a developed chest voice.

Yes!! I think because people are so used to hearing extremely talented sopranos in the media, we forget that female altos/mezzos also exist and are extremely talented in there own ways. Since we are constantly hearing sopranos singing on the radio, we start to judge all female singers as though they have the same vocal range as them, even if they are categorized as something completely different.

Billie Eilish is an amazing vocalist with good potential for her age. Also, she is young + that’s her young voice and it’s impressive. She has a very unique and beautiful voice. Her tone is so annoying I cannot stand it. She can sing but yeah nah I’m not a fan of her voice it’s like a preteen school girl it’s so high pitched and whiney.
The title of the intro already says it all. Though I personally prefer "vocalists" with [at least] "good" technique, the science of singing is still a matter to solely the artist him/herself. It's an intrinsic trait. Having a decent technique helps them to produce sound that isn't harmful to them. It helps to preserve their own instrument. To avoid physiological damage. Moreover, as long as an artist enjoys making their music, technique doesn't matter THAT much. I mean, even powerhouses have glitches. That's why we need to appreciate artists regardless of how great or how awful their techniques are.
Billie has so much potential she got a very beautiful voice and tone but she can do way better, she can be a great vocalist , she needs vocal coaching I feel like she has never had singing lessons or she doesn't care , but also she's still new in this industry I hope she'll get out if her comfort zone in the future and give eveything she has
I bet that if Jisoo were signed to SM instead of YG, she’d be much better off vocally by now. You can focus on homing your artists’ vocal abilities while ensuring that their dancing’s up to par. Look at Seulgi from Red Velvet. She’s often ranked as the second best dancer of the Gen III girl groups (right behind Lisa of Blackpink) and ranked in the top 3 or top 5 vocalists of the generation (usually after Jihyo of Twice and her own groupmate Wendy, who’s seen as the best vocalist of this generation). They really aren’t exploring any of Jisoo’s potential despite her being the lead vocalist.
In my opinion Justin and camila can sing they just don’t have repertoire that shows off their abilities. Their not great great but I don’t think they should be here with Billie
I think Justin has a really good tone and his falsetto is one of the most beautiful out there, for me he has a great voice overall and i love his runs they make him more distinctive,he sure has some problems but who doesn’t I don’t think he should be here along with some others
I think Justin *for not having the training he could have* does an amazing job, the fact that he knew how to sing incredible without anyone teaching him when he was little as a base for singing (like 11 to 15yo, at that time he had never taken a vocal class or anything like that) and growing up, his voice had a huge change and he still sing AMAZING, yes he's not perfect but he actually sings live and sounds so good. And i think he's been working on technics cause recently his live vocals have been much better. (Also the clips on this video are kinda old, like 6 years ago, he HAS improved, so I think Justin should have his own video, so he could do more digging on him)

@@Anthony-fz5jz i’m sure if you look through her discography you’ll see some variety, but for starters, most of the belts she does are belted in the same note or very close to it. ‘No Time To Die’, ‘Oxytocin’, & even live performances of ‘TV’ all use a B4 belt. Happier Than Ever uses a C5 which is just a note higher & NDA using Bb4 which is just the note below it lol. She can definitely go higher & even background vocals of Happier Than Ever show that, but she chooses to stay at a comfortable range. For other songs like ‘Overheated’, ‘Therefore I Am’, & most of ‘Oxytocin’, (and others of her older songs) don’t require much technique. She does even have songs where she showcases technique like vocal runs in ‘my future’. But nothing we’ve seen yet is truly pushing her already set boundaries & showing a real focus on vocal ability. I think she’s staying at a comfortable range now, but we’ll for sure see improvement of her vocals with her utilizing seemingly more impressive vocal techniques than we’ve been exposed to now. Her voice has definitely shown improvement & more power since I first wrote that reply. But yeah, I’m really excited for BE3.

Rosé used to sing at church, Lisa used to sing at talent competitions in thailand, and Jennie also wanted to become a singer but then she started to train as a rapper because the songs she covered had raps so the company told her to train as a rapper, but obviously her natural talent is singing and not rapping

So a couple of things! I think you are definitely correct on all of these singers. They all have the potential to become legends of our time, but singers like Ariana Grande, Adam Levine,, Lady Gaga, and Jason Derulo are already reaching legendary status. These singers are all great and do have wonderful songs, but they could be better. Yes I agree. Billie does have a few things going for her, soft falsettos that are hard to do, and you mentioned her agility being great. JB is actually a good singer! But you are correct that some of his foundational things need work. He’s good tho! Camila... the moments you showed of her in fifth harmony were probably the hardest to watch, as she had been forced to sell a certain sound. But her voice is improving as she progresses outside of the group. Charlie Puth does push on his belts sometimes, but he is a very knowledgable artist. He just needs to practice more what he preaches probably. Jisoo!! Oh my, she needs to do more out of Blackpink to really explore her vocal abilities more. But there’s a reason Rosé is the lead vocalist over Jisoo. But all of these korean singers have a role to fill inside their group, so yhat could also be partly why. Thank you for this video!!
Minor correction: Rosé is the Main Vocalist while Jisoo is one of the Lead Vocalists of BLACKPINK 😁💛. There's a difference between Main, Lead, and Sub positions in Kpop, if you didn't know by chance.

Like I know there’s no lead vocalist of Mamamoo, because they can all sing. Moon gets most of the rap lines because she is the primary rapper, but Hwasa raps occasionally to give Moon the chance to sing. I don’t know much about the positions of kpop music though.

I doubt that she will step away from the group for vocal skill but instead focus on her strength which is acting. Main position is the 1st skilled member(s), Lead is the 2nd skilled member(s), while Sub is 3rd skilled or interchangle rank in terms of skills on their respective position (vocal, rap, dance. One of the reason on why MAMAMOO doesn't have any offical positions (for me) is that they're relatively close in terms of their singing capabilities.

The ones I love on this list is Billie Eilish and Charlie Puth. Billie's voice is very pretty and she does fine with the kind of music she does. Not everyone has to be this big powerhouse vocalist. I appreciate this Charlie Puth's musical talents as a whole. He is a very talented musician and he knows a lot about music theory. He's like the pop version of Jacob Collier.

I agree with this but I also think that what makes Billie unique is the way that she's not afraid to tell you how she feels but in a weird or unexpected way. You would expect her to be some kind of punk rock princess, but her voice is so soft and delicate and sweet. That's my favorite part about her
Just because a singer has a “powerhouse” voice doesn’t mean that they’re a better artist than others who don’t. Christina has a “powerhouse” but she doesn’t know how to use it properly which leads to her doing too many runs in a song (ex: her cover of “The Christmas Song”) and singing too loud for a song that doesn’t need be sung loudly with every line. With Billie although she has very different vocals from Christina, she has great control over her voice. Billie knows when to belt in her songs (ex: her song “No Time to Die) and is able to sing low notes even though she sings with a kind of whisper/soft sound (ex: her cover of “Yesterday”) Justin Bieber also has great control over his voice as he has great tone and also maintained his vocals even through puberty and drug abuse. Some artists even make up for their non powerhouse vocals with their songwriting like Lorde. These are all great artists who have different vocals from each other but they all have talent and deserve to be recognized for that.

You should do a vocal development evolution of artists like Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber in 2021. Their vocal techniques have changed now that they're in adulthood. It's crazy how both of them started at such a young age so to see them go through puberty and have to change their techniques is interesting

I have listened to her live and she can sing but stylistically that's just not my kind of music/voice. I have to disagree with your stance on Justin 😳 I feel like he sings super high and both his high belts and headvoice are developed and beautiful :) I’m not a big fan of him but I agree that he could be doing a lot more
I feel like Camilla, Billie, and Charlie shouldn’t be here. They’re pretty sufficient singers it’s just they need to uncover their potential more. Camilla is capable of some pretty impressive vocal acrobatics, Charlie is super talented and just so musically inclined, and while it isn’t my style billie’s vocals fit with her style

Agreed. I heavily disliked the fact that so many people, especially during their x-factor days tried to paint her as the best one in the group. Imo Ally and Dinah were the top 2.
Camila is SO talented, and I really hope she gets HUGE in the future because she really deserves it she’s truly the whole package, kind, can sing, can dance, her vocal talent is insane and deserves so much more recognition

Billie makes no sense here , her vocals still amazing even she doesn't belt often , and I don't know why he said she's limited while she didn't show anything from her range , her singing is just a style, I only can agree that she needs training and coaching cuz her voice is kinda underdeveloped
Camila might not be amazing but idk she shouldn’t be here, she is the only one among this singers who has a proper supported range and somewhat developed registers. She can sing high with ease (which is kinda surprising), her agility is worth praising and her tone is very good.
I think Justin’s personal issues with drugs and alcohol heavily interrupted his vocal potential . Billie has a lot of potential but her style fits the direction music is going so she doesn’t need to do loud big belts. Camila has some good notes but overall I hate that nasal singing she does and she’s always really cracky and off tone. I actually love Charlie Puth he’s a true musician, which explains why he’s not the best singer if that makes sense, he’d be fabulous in a band where his voice is blended with others. Never heard of Jisso but she sounded pretty good, imo it sounds she just holds back a lot and doesn’t give her all in every performance which is hindering her she could definetly hit some strong belts she just has to want to.
If these singers were placed in the 80's & early-mid 90's, I wonder if they would be as successful. Exceptional vocal talent was definitely more prioritized then! *Billie* has so much potential; hope she utilizes it and develops her vocal technique. *Jisoo's* tone is so beautiful! It still baffles me that some really claimed that *Justin and Charlie Puth* are Baritones 😅
I wouldn’t say Exceptional Vocal Talent because in order for Management and Record Labels to make the most profit off ur voice back then, U actually had to sound good and make a Good track that was catchy. Thats why the 80’s is known for its One Hit Wonders
Agreed. I refer to them as AVERAGE now. To me good means better than most which isn't the case for these singers. As for Justin / Charlie have the tone of tenors, I think in a classical setting they're so untrained that they could be confused for baritones purely because of how fragile they are at upper chest notes, how inconsistent they are around the bridge,and how much they rely on headvoice and high mixes. They give the illusion of a low bridge when they lean so hard into nasality and high mixes. Shawn Mendes is another offender. I'm a second tenor/ baritone and it shocks me how many Pop music tenors can't chest past a G4 with any consistency. Some people listen more to tone/timber for voice type, others stick more to range/placement for reaching their conclusion, so i think that's where that comes from
@@GarageStudio7 i mean janet Jackson doesnt have great vocal abilities but she was still a lot relevant, this is not a shade towards janet in anyway, but the reason why she was this relevant and praised is because her music, she is a great artist not the best vocalist but who cares she makes good music that's the only important thing at the end of the day atleast for me

Isn't it crazy that Bieber's management is so bad that you don't know he's arguably the best singer alive and if he cared at all (e.g. did vocal practice twice a day for years like Shawn Mendes) he could be/could've been one of/arguably the best of all time. For example, I bet you don't even know about his 'Changes' performance on Elle (which isnt even on their youtube channel for some reason). And that's a guy who presumably doesn't practice and took years off

My queen Jisoo is amazing, her tone is beautiful and her breath control is amazing. I really hope YG spends more in her vocal training so she can fix those mistakes you pointed out here.
