Chasing your dream requires you put everything out there and deal with the consequences. When aspiring entrepreneur Jia Jiang left corporate life to build his dream company, he had no idea it also meant facing crushing rejection.
The best way to recover? 100 Days of Rejection Therapy. Halfway through now, it's been an astonishing journey, and proof positive that we have no idea what is waiting on the other side of an audacious request.
Extend the conversation and expand on ideas with Jia Jiang: join their Opal Brainstorm at tedxaustin.our...
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

After 6 years of waiting and 5 rejections, I finally got the job of my dream. I will be starting it in two weeks. I'm nervous about it because I am afraid it might not turn out to be what I want but I know I will never be happy until I get it. Persistence and believing in myself did pay off at the end. Don't stop believing in yourself. Thank you for the great advice.

Jia Jiang: Thank you for sharing your courage, efforts and strengths. Your presentation at TEDxAustin really made my day. Upon relating to your experience with the surprising kindness of strangers (Jackie), the gratitude and beauty of such moments in life conjured appreciative tears for the beauty in life. Thank you for sharing such a well structured and uplifting presentation upon your experiences living a life where you've lived life at its best: A life where you've minimized fear by cleverly utilizing a mechanism to deal/accept/cope with rejection.
@volleyballfletch2

Initially I liked this talk. However, after taking some time and thinking more deeply about it I have concerns. First, why do irrelevant acts to purposefully illicit rejection? Why not attempt relevant tasks with the goal of succeeding and then using the rejections to motivate you forward. Rejection is suppose to hurt, it is suppose to be difficult, it is suppose to be a motivator to change who you are now to succeed the next time. Steven Spielberg didn't accept rejection, he overcame it. He altered his script over and over until he found what worked. He did not accept rejection and he was not okay with the rejection happening. He improved himself and the script until it worked. My fear with purposefully trying to illicit failure, especially on non-relevant pursuits, is that you are conditioning yourself to simply accept the rejections when they come. Rejection is a negative reinforcement, as such it is meant to be painful, so as to motivate you to change your behavior so you succeed the next time. If you condition yourself to accept the rejection and it no longer becomes painful, slowly but surely failure will no longer be a motivation for you to change yourself and improve. I would be interested in your thoughts on the matter.

+The Fletch I think the idea is that if rejection is crippling to you, it's easier to start off getting rejected by things you don't care about.

It's always easy to say no when you don't fully understand a problem or are not prepared to accept a challenge that involves stepping outside the circle and doing something different. The important thing is to try and keep trying.

@Lynn Choi. Why do you think a human being wouldn't do anything nice for another person just because of their ethnic background. Sounds to me like you don't really believe there aren't truly genuine and humble people in this world. Also being an entrepreneur doesn't mean you have to lose your values to become a success. For many people of Generation Y want to connect with people and make a change to the current structure of what society believes success

A movie came out this year, and I was waiting a long time to see it. I found out I had to have surgery the day the movie premiered! So naturally, after the simple minor surgery, while the nurse was pushing me around in the wheelchair, I asked if I could borrow the wheelchair to get good movie seats. She said no, but hey, it was fun. I did end up seeing it that weekend, in a normal seat.

1. I hate to break it to you but, if you weren't an Asian man filming the Crispy Creme lady while asking for the special donuts, you would almost certainly not have gotten that response. 2. Being an entrepreneur is not about finding a problem and finding a solution. That's a lovely idea but the fact is that being an entrepreneur is, in almost all cases, about getting rich however possible within the limits of the law, with little-to-no consideration for the well-being of others.
