Hey, I have the same carburator. At 1:52 you pull off a hose. What is that hose supposed to do? I am missing it entirely on my Carb... By the way, is this a BST40 or different carb type? Can't find any number on it. Thanks for these videos, they help a lot!

That hose is the fuel bowl overflow. In the case that the fuel level needle doesn’t shut off the fuel in time, it goes out of that pipe, the hose is there so it dumps on the ground and not on the bike. Yes, this is a BST 40 Mikuni carb.

@@restorationvalve Ah thanks my friend, for your quick reply! I'll be tearing it apart myself today and the manual I had was from a 1996+ BST40SS, which is definitely different, but very much a like our pre '96 BST40 version.

Hi Wonderful skill and photography and many thanks for sharing it. I have just rebuilt my 1991 dr650 rse carb and I set the pilot jet to 1 1/2 turns out. It doesnt start or breifly fomirea for a few seconds I have the exhaust headers off (replacement on order) and airbox, fuel tank removed ( running a header fuel tank) so I dont know how much effect that would have with starting. The float is set at 48 mm, should I increase the pilot screw a turn. Regards Simon

Hi, trying to start the bike with out the headers is harder. The 1.5 turns is just a starting point for tuning the carb, it should be adjusted more finely when everything is install and the bike has heated up.

Seems that the top cap is missing the small O-ring next to the diaphragm ... it's a seal for the vacuum nipple to the petcock ... eh?
@restorationvalve
@restorationvalve Год назад
Nop, These bike don’t have a vacuum petcock and the fitting doesn’t have a machined opening to have a opening to the diaphragm chamber. So no need for a o-ring. I have wondered the same thing previously
@FnLn55

I thought that might be the case ... no vacuum petcock, so port not drilled. Thanks for the quick reply. 👍

My bike dies off throttle while starts. The 150 main jet is clean lol?
@restorationvalve
@restorationvalve 6 месяцев назад
Check the needle height, it might be set too high. The stock jet for a RSE is a 140, the red DJEBEL that I also have, has a stock main jet 147,5
@authentic4225

@@restorationvalve Its stock needle length and height before getting tapered off.

Hello Nice video and thanks for sharing :-) At the start of the video where the carb lies down. The thick pipe right above the air intake rubber. What is that pipe for and is there a hose connected and where is that hose ending? Roy
@restorationvalve
@restorationvalve Год назад
That is the carburetor breather vent. That pipe goes up to the air box
@roysmedsli8898
@roysmedsli8898 Год назад
ok. I might get a 650 carb on ebay for my old dr 600 85 and I wondered where that hos went. Its just air intake. Thanks :-)

you are missing a washer and an o ring for the idle screw, also use jis bit for the screws.
@ronenfe

also measuring the float height is not a bad idea, good work.

How often does this need to be done?!?
@restorationvalve
@restorationvalve Год назад
That depends on how often you ride your bike and how clean is the fuel your using. I've would suggest cleaning it every 2 or 3 years or every 20k km
