To say I feel so sorry for the owner is an understatement. I've been down his path before, and it's soul destroying- especially when it's already been to a so called 'mechanic' who appears to have not been entirely honest. But a blessing is it's now in the hands of Craig, who will sort this bike well and truly properly. He is the best! ❤

Well worth saving, 1997 was reported to have the best conventional forks ever provided on a production bike. 49mm twin chamber, adjustable for rebound and compression dampening. The early USD's weren't that great.

The frame on the 97 should be a gun metal grey/silver and the subframe is bare ali and not black, got to keep it original 😎

To know for sure the year look at the serial number on the stem. Also the serial number on the case will identify it. In my opinion for what its worth I would never powdercoat a dirt bike frame. The reason is powder coating will hide cracks in high stress areas like the steering stem. Better to strip and check all the welds then paint. Streetbike powder coating is fine. Just not on dirt bike. In my opinion. Love the channel!

I've had the center case gaskets fail before today causing similar issues. I vote for powder coating the frame back to standard.

10th letter on the frame should tell you the year code klm is 89 to 91

Not going to be a full restoration 🤣😂 Next it's a bare frame and a couple of boxes of bits, and engine tear down in the next instalment, it will be a much better bike than he bought. Judging by the grin on your face you should do some more if it pays the bills - engine autopsy will be great viewing

What we need to know is the final build cost because Suzuki is one of the most expensive parts. Not your labor cost I think it's going to be over $3000 to refurbish that bike. If the owner paid 500 bucks for that bike then he might be okay or it will just be a money pit.

I thought those Suzukis were oil injected, like my old Yamaha 2 stroke DT.?. When I first saw the bike I thought the oil pump was just over oiling the thing.

may as well go titanium spokes . . wonder if there are any differences in any parts someone may have installed that made a difference between 97-99? happens
