Doesn't matter what you drive.. In the end tires make a world of a difference. Can't have a fair test unless they have the same tires. There's no question about it!
Tires are only 1 factor. They're a very important factor, but still only 1 factor of many. A center locker, axle lockers, and a manual transmission on all-season tires will pull through offroad snow better than most open-diff 2WDs on snow tires. Stopping is easier with the snow tires, but you usually don't need to worry about stopping if you can't even get moving.
David Pedder utter rubbish. Those engines will do twice as many miles as the Suzuki. You read too much drivel. Early 2.5 turbos had SOME issue, but later models were re engineered and have no problems whatsoever.
I have the Subaru Crosstrek one I have never had trouble driving in the snow with it. I have driven in a foot of snow and never once got worried it would get stuck. It also takes and impact extremely well as I just got rear ended the other day at 25-30 mph and didnt feel the impact that bad in the cab.
😂😂 Hi, I know your commen was from 9 years ago, and you might not even be on RU-vid anymore, but how is (or was) the car? Is it good? I'm looking at one for a first car, it fits all my needs
@@SemiSkimmedMilk123 Hi, still on RU-vid and still have the car, in fact I did 350 miles in it yesterday. I do have others but the SX4 is a belter, 175K+ on the clock now and other than regular servicing and one brake caliper all it's had is a new battery and the rear shocks a couple of years ago. Clutch, gearbox, engine, exhaust, electrics, interior ... all fine and all original. I saw someone was complaining about fuel consumption but I get an easy 42 MPG dropping to around 45-48 MPG if I avoid motorway speeds. Go for the 2.0 diesel if you can.
@@Harrylechat01 nice, that sounds great! Thank you so much for the quick reply, I'll have a look at the 2.0L, I think the fuel economy seems good! Does it have AWD?
@@SemiSkimmedMilk123 Mine can switch between 2WD and 4WD with the option to select 4WD low for bad snow, etc. Only needed it a couple of times but it worked well.
@@Harrylechat01 excellent, I need 4WD, but having the ability to switch would be great, as I think 2WD improves economy! Thank you so much for your help! :)
I've had both cars - the XV is nearly twice the price up front but the gas mileage and dependability, plus extra room and towing capacity make it a better car to own. I do miss my SX4 though - just drank too much gas and couldn't tow the toys around.
Yeah safer in the same crash but that depends on the type of crash to begin with. The Suzuki has a 100,000 mile warranty whereas the Subaru is 36,000. Subaru has a serious oil burning issue on many of it's models and they expect owners to constantly check and add 0W20 oil ($10 per quart) on their own or the engine may blow up. If you google this Subaru oil consumption problem and get into the forums you'll see that some owners are adding 5 quarts between the actual oil changes, that cost $95. Even if Subaru replaces engine blocks or entire engines for free, that doesn't guarantee the consumption issue will not return in the future. I love my XV but as time goes on and now that I've been under the engine hood 100 times to check my oil level, the urge to drive into a Toyota or Jeep dealership grows by the week.
trainlinezoo Any -Crash...Have you seen the new overlap tests that Subura Aced? The Crosstrek beat out a lot of high priced ,in fact the Audi a4 failed it and Toyota and Lexus were HorribleLast year Toy asked for a 2nd chance and they did some re on the Rav and it still failed!!! The Ford F150-Aluminum version-Horrific Fail..(im sure youve seen this on the news). As we men all sit around and worry about HP and will it go through 4 feet of snow?We fail to realize that safety is a underrated area, in which the Crosstrek Shines!!! In that type of accident(overlap) you'll walk away with minor bruising in this Suzuki? Ummm-911... Subaru is truly 5 star as far as Safety the overlap test is being phased in and a lot are failing it but Suebee? Passing with flying colours .They are Tanks!!! Safety is a good thing. With the Gas mileage and the safety? plus, real AWD you cant beat the Crosstrek...
ABS traction control can make your brakes red hot too. And if you only have an open diff on the front and an LSD on the back, like some Subarus, don't go off-road at all
You can't test if they don't put winter tires on both. You can see when the cars pass that the Suzuki has winter tires on it and the subaru has stock tires. Tires make a big impact in snow. You can put good snow tires on a RWD car a drive around in the snow for the most part.
i own both of those cars, the subaru is more confortable, faster and got a better sound isolation, but breakes and off road capabilitys, the sx4 rules. anyway both cars are amazing.
+Quadrunner And will last Suzukis burn out fast and if your in a head on? Definatley want 2 be in Subee-drive them into each other at 40km-per and which you wanna be in? Subee owners gonna walk away,Safety should b important.Crosstrek is in top 3 safest cars overall 2 b in a head on accident!!! The Subee is aceing the new Overlap tests .Audi a4? failed and F150?-FAIL, almost every Toyota product? including their luxury line-Lexus? FAILED!!! Crosstrek hits that Suzuki in the overlap test? Only one drivers walking away... I 'll sit in the Crosstrek in that one in fact i'll take a Crosstrek over any car under 100,000 dollars, cause the 3 that did better? all cost north of 100k...Thats how safe these tanks are!!!! They are haevy and thats a sign of safety ,the best vehicle i Ever drove in Canadian winters? Back in high school had a 1976 Civic!!! Unreal in the snow but why? cause it floated cause it weighed Zero, weight = safe!
Che Robinson I wouldn't say they burn out fast as much as they don't have a reputation for reliability, or anything for that matter besides cheap transportation. You don't realize a good thing until after it becomes successful generally and Suzuki just never made it big enough here for word to spread, good, bad, or indifferent. They don't get the same care, statistically speaking, and can still go past 200k so I wouldn't slam them.
I guess with the money the Suzuki driver paid vs the Subaru driver, he was able to buy proper snow tires. I always say, $2000 ($500) might not seem like much when spending around $20k USD on a car, but if those $2000 include some spending cash for better tires, you will own your competitors.
subaru is lighter, because of that this win in this "uphill sprint"... Theres no question about which car is better. Its easy... Subaru has symetrical awd and thats all..
AnizorBB Subaru is not lighter !!!! I have owned both cars, the sx4 is less comfortable, but more dependable. Subaru was more complicated and costed me more to keep it up. For the price you cant beat what the SX4 offers
Tyres tyres tyres ! Subaru the far better car in the long term. You can tell which the Suzuki is, its the one with the thrashing engine as it climbs. Boxer engines sound far better when revved hard. I had a new Panda 4x4 once, and never got stuck in anything but it had mud and snow tyres on it. Thats the key.
I think these cars are good 4wd vehicles, but still this is not my definition of driving in snow ! In this small amount of snow, a car with the engine front and a real wheel drive would have no trouble driving this distance if it was on really good snowtires.
HONDA CRV. NISSAN PATHFINDER. И SUBARU FORESTER. ЕЩЕ РАЗ УБЕДИЛСЯ ЧТО СУБАРЬ НЕ ТАКОЙ УЖ ПРОХОДИМЫЙ КАК О НЁМ ГОВОРЯТ.
