I gotta say that this test is much wrong, I manage to do 0-100 in my vitara 1.6 VVT but manual 5 speed in 8.5 sec everytime in sport mode. Also I noticed that when you got to 100km/h, you still counted another 3 sec and kept it on 100 for some reasion…. There is not big difference between 1.4 and 1.6 actually….

*Edit for vievers wanting to save time on reading useless comments: as our channel (and thus PerformanceDrive) is accused by @Crorider Motoblog of spreading misinformation, we kindly ask him to stop talking but do the video showing 0-100 acceleration of 1.6 Vitara 4WD in 8.5 sec. Simple as that.* Our original comment: _Not possible to do 8.5 in 1.6 VVT. If you look only at speedometer then maybe - but speedometer is not precise, it always shows higher speed than you are actually driving. Performance Drive uses professional devices for acceleration measures, dashboard view is for presentation purposes only. Another thing is that Sport mode doesn't change a thing under full throttle (pedal to the metal), car is anyway doing its best then._

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers Well here I am telling you that it is possible, and I did it tons of times… with specialist timing gear, aswell as with just speedometer, and yes you are right, if you watch speedometer iz goes under 7.5 secs. Sport mode actually remaps the ecu and gives you a bit higher revmatchs when you shift in manual….

@@Crorider_moto It is possible only if you are driving downhill. There are tons of worldwide tests, no way to achieve 8.5. Make and publish a video how you do that, that would be the fastest 1.6 Vitara ever. I know Suzuki cars very well, I drive them since 2007, including Vitara now. Sport mode changes the response at low and mid rpm but under full throttle map is the same. You can find the graph in Suzuki service docs. Full throttle also deactivates speed limiter.

@@Crorider_moto The video you linked is not more precise - I watched it years ago, gear changes at 1.4T are slow, speed even decreases sometimes. And the video says 12 seconds for 1.6... (Suzuki claim, usually 1.5-2.0 seconds difference). I've been driving both versions and they are not comparable in terms of dynamics.

Great test demonstrating the capabilities of the Vitara S. Even if the test was done with Vitara S against the other 1.4 Boosterjet Vitara’s like the SZT, SZ4 or SZ5, the Vitara S will always be the fastest to 100kph due to the aerodynamic styling of the Vitara S minimising drag coefficient better than the others. The rear spoiler, front grille, black side and front mouldings all prude outwards to disrupt air flow and the alloy wheels used have been designed to improve performance, gas mileage and lower CO2 emissions. Interesting that the black gloss (black piano) alloy wheels that were standard on the Vitara S (UK, New Zealand and Australia), those alloy wheels were made by Uni Wheels (Germany) now owned by Superior Industries, USA. Suzuki ditched Uni Wheels after one year working with them for supplies before using Borbet (Germany) for all other Vitara models from 2018. Having looked at both alloy wheels, it looks like the Uni Wheels alloy wheels on the Vitara S were specially heat treated to improve strength and hardness according to the markings on the back. It also has fewer gaps in the alloy rims which helps lower drag. According to Suzuki those black alloys are cost just over 400 euros per alloy wheel which is very very expensive. Heat treating cast aluminum alloy wheels is expensive and not all alloy wheel manufacturers use heat treatment. I doubt Borbet wheels do as they cost far less from Suzuki.

@craigsmith8960 2 года назад
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers Yes it is normally engraved on the back of the alloy wheels by the manufacturer along with other information such as material composition, manufacturer date, size etc. I only found out when changing my tyres to winter tyres and then saw the backside which connects to the axle. The black gloss ones on the Vitara S in UK, NZ and Australia all look the same and when I looked at it, it says 2014 (manufacturer date). The Borbet alloy wheels used on the SZ5, SZ4 it says 2017. I think the gloss black piano alloys were also used on the SX4 S Cross. I only found out about Uni Wheels relationship with Suzuki though a online PDF document from Uni Wheels. It said their relationship with Suzuki was for just one year. Those wheels were meant for SX4 in 2014 but for some reason Sukuzi decided to use them on the Vitara S before changing suppliers over to Borbet. On eBay a few sellers have posted images of the alloy wheels which also shows the markings on the alloy wheels. As a guess I am assuming the Uni Wheels black gloss alloys may have a much higher load rating as it is hardened and tempered alloy via heat treatment but a car like Vitara which is very light doesn't need such alloys as it is not heavy but it is good for the customer to have premium alloys :)

Results seem fairly accurate although in Sports Mode the car does feel quicker. On another note what I have also found is that the official Suzuki quoted figures for fuel economy are also somewhat incorrect. By using quality spark plugs, 97+RON unleaded fuel, B or higher rated fuel economy tyres or summer tyres ruuning on ECO mode (38/41psi), fuel economy is town/city is around 45mpg (6.28 l/100km) and on highways/motorway I get around 55-58mpg (4.87 to 5.14 l/100km). Easily over 50mpg most trips. I mean this is quite exceptional for a small SUV with such performance and economy despite a 4WD with a torque convertor gearbox (I have the Vitara S). I don't think there is another car out there as a 4WD with TC that can do better however the SZ5 I found the figures are worser, fuel ecompny and even CO2 emissions are really bad at 170g.

@colinashwood1872
@colinashwood1872 3 года назад
Vitara S 1.4 Turbo (non hybrid). The mild hybrid in my opinion does not offer any benefits over the Vitara S other than a few non essential gadgets. The Vitara S is still cheaper to run than the hybrid. SZ5 is worse. I don't know why this went to the other end of the spectrum in terms of fuel economy, CO2 emissions etc however the Vitara S is much lighter in weight maybe thats why.
@4x4.tests.on.rollers
@4x4.tests.on.rollers 3 года назад
@@colinashwood1872 The only reason for mild hybrid in Vitara is stupidity of norms, in laboratory conditions you can get lower CO2 emissions. Weight difference ain't that big, about 40 kg. But full hybrid Vitara is going to much heavier, over 1400 kg.
@colinashwood1872
@colinashwood1872 3 года назад
Yeah but the sad thing is with Suzuki now merged with Toyota its only a matter of time until they launch the full hybrid version or PHEV Vitara due to government emissions guidelines on lowering CO2. It would be interesting to see how it does but I don't like CVT transmission that is being used in their range (I think Suzuki Across and Swace use it). The TC gearbox is really needed in a car of this type especially 4WD. I'm not sure whether its even possible to have TC gearbox in a hybrid. I've seen DCT gearbox and CVT only.

Performance Auto did it for the Swift Sport the auto was faster by 0.4 seconds compared to the manual and the Suzuki Baleno, Suzuki claim in their specifications the auto is faster by 0.4 seconds over the manual gearbox one. The Vitara should be no different. Expect the manual to be slower around 0.4 seconds so 0-100kph around 9.1 seconds and the auto we have seen is around 8.6-8.7 for an all wheel drive with torque convertor 6 speed auto, which is exceptional. Never seen this with any other crossover with similar engine. I haven't understood why it is faster but some claim lower turbo lag is the reason and perhaps higher gear ratios on the torque convertor with turbo engine.

All the tests done by PDrive on this car with the 1.4 boosterjet engine that are recorded at 8.5 seconds 0-100kph test are on the Auto not manual. Is this because auto is quicker than the manual on this type of engine?

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers I just saw the Swift Sport 1.4T test from PDrive the AT is faster by almost 0.5 seconds over the manual. Thats quite a bit of difference especially when TC's are meant to be slower than MT. The TC used isn't the fastest as you say in changing gears but it is a pretty decent TC are quite reliable (although TC's are generally the most reliable auto gearboxes anyway). I believe Suzuki use the Aisin AW TF-8# SC series (AWTF-80 SC) 6 speed automatic transmission, Aisin Seiki is a well known brand in the industry. I don't know if they are better than the ZF gearboxes but I do know other luxury brands also use the Aisin Seiki AWTF-80 SC gearboxes. Its a shame that PD drive didn't do the 1.4T test on the manual and Auto but did on the Swift Sport.
