What is the operation when you run the bender to the first stop and need to rotate back to pick up the second/third/etc holes on the die? Does the angle finder not rotate back to 0? Mental math at that point, adding the new bend angle to the previous angle? Or, do you release the friction knob, rotate the arm back, then re-engage the friction knob? Either way, it seems like some inaccuracy will be introduced.
I think you would just be looking for the difference. As in if you need to reset your pin at 37deg and your looking to get to 45deg, you would just be looking to add 8deg. Lets say after moving the pin, the DRO reads 5.6 you would add 8 to 5.6 = 13.6...which is truly 45deg from your original 0. I'll find out soon enough if this assumption works after ordering it...
You only have to zero out your readout once, and the only time you release the friction knob is when you are swapping out dies. No mental math is needed, the readout keeps track of each bend that you make.
Unfortunately, when rotating to far backwards, the small electrical contacts inside of the device can be damaged. In the past, we have had some success straightening them back out. The other option is to pick up a new digital angle gauge and replacing the contacts into your existing U-Turn.
Works great!!! But, I would strongly recommend fitting on the bender before soldering. My install was backward to the clamp and had to disassemble and cut wires to reorient the clamp. Only recommendation: throw three of these in the kit and avoid the soldering hassle. www.mcmaster.com/7056k23
