1. Gyan Yoga (path of knowledge 'Gyan' which Swami Sarvapriyananda represents) 2. Bhakti Yoga (path of devotion to God/surrender) 3. Karma Yoga (loving action, each and every action is selfless devoted to a higher power/god) 4. Hatha Yoga (physical austerities, the kind of yoga famous in the West) One chooses any path as per his/her natural inclinations or talents or maybe even combinations of these. ☺

Swami means self reliant who doesn't depend on anyone in the the world, he has renounced everything in the world and he is free, it's a very difficult path but gives you ultimate freedom as well

Swami literally means "one who knows oneself".

1) The Yoga Sutras of Patañjali is a collection of Sanskrit sutras on the theory and practice of yoga - 195 sutras and 196 sutras. The Yoga Sutras was compiled in the early centuries CE, by the sage Patanjali in India who synthesized and organized knowledge about yoga from much older traditions. 2) In Sanskrit texts, Rāja yoga was both the goal of yoga and a method to attain it. The term also became a modern name for the practice of yoga in the 19th-century when Swami Vivekananda gave his interpretation of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali in his book Raja Yoga.

Oh Cathryn, thank you very much for reacting to my Suggestion! Now you got an impression of Swami! He is a real Goldmine i can tell you. Yes, obviously he uses many Sanskrit Terms in his Talks, but most of the Time he explains them (at least Terms that are new for his regular Audience). Some of the Words he used were Patanjali Yoga, Advaita (Vedanta) and then also Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Raja Yoga and Jnana Yoga. -Patanjali Yoga is the ancient System of Concentration and Meditation based on the Patanjali Yoga Sutras (written by a Sage called Patanjali). -Advaita Vedanta means Nondual Vedanta. Vedanta means End or Highest Conclusion of the Vedas. (Veda + anta, anta = end) The Vedas are the Core Scripture of Hinduism, orthodox Hindus see them as Revelation (Shruti) and the Final Authority on spiritual Matters. In these Vedas we can find Texts called Upanishads, which contain philosophical Dialogues between Master and Student. These Upanishads are the main Source of Hindu Philosophy. So Advaita Vedanta is one (and the most prominent) System of Hindu Philosophy in which core Texts like the Upanishads and others are interpreted and explained in a "Non-Dual" Fashion. This Tradition is the Background and Backbone of pretty much all of Swami Sarvapriyananda's Lectures. -Karma Yoga means the Yoga (or Path) of Action, it deals with Unselfish Action -Bhakti Yoga is the Yoga (or Path) of Devotion - Raja Yoga is the Yoga (or Path) of Concentration/ Meditation (these Terms were coined by Swami Vivekananda) - Jnana Yoga is the Yoga (or Path) of Knowledge, which is the main Topic that Swami S. teaches. At 15.05, he was refering about Advaita Vedanta.Advaita Vedanta is a three thousand year old school of Hindu philosophy and spiritual practices. The term Advaita first appeared as the Sanskrit term अद्वैत वेदान्त, which means not-two. Advaita teaches that moksha or freedom (sometimes translated as liberation, enlightenment, spiritual awakening or self-realization) can be achieved in your lifetime

You know it's fun meditating and doing your practice alone but sometimes learning & seeking together has its own charm. That's called "Satsang" in ancient Sanskrit. (Spending spiritual time with like minded people) and it also helps us advance on our spiritual path. Not to mention it's so fun. ☺

I read Eckhart Tolle's book "The power of Now" that is another way to concentrate your mind on what is happening at this moment, thereby excluding extraneous things. This is actually a way of meditation. An awesome book everyone should read.

Swami Sarvapriyananda comes from the Advaita Vedanta (non-dual Vedanta) school of Indian philosophy i.e. The path of knowledge (Gyan-Yoga). He heads the Vedanta Society of New York. Western teachers like Eckhart Tole, Rupert Spira, etc. are also Vedantists. (Those who study the Upanishads, highest philosophical teachings of the Vedas). You will find many great people in this list of Vedanists/Neo-Vedantists (non-dualists) in Western world too. Too many to list here. Do check them out. Many great Physicists, poets, etc. of the past and present too. ☺

The Bhagwat Geeta is one of the most popular scripture on spirituality. In this scripture they describe four ways of attaining self realization. Karma Yog ( Selfless work. Doing your regular job/ responsibility with an attitude of getting an outcome that will do good for others) , Bhakti Yog (Path of Devotion) Gyan You (Finding Self through Knowledge) and Raaj Yog. Finding yourself through meditation. In the chapter dealing with Raaj Yog the techniques for mediation are described. Pooja(s) are done to cleanse, to boost, to amplify energies around or in animate or inanimate things or environment. If you are truly truthful to self, then what's the point of Pooja? You are the Pooja. Whatever you touch, wherever you go, whatever you do will be very pleasant. This is how I interpret, correct me if I am wrong. 🙏

Adaivta means non duality is a philosophy who says there is no separation between you and the world, there is only one not two reality and you are part of that, I like you to google more about that it's called vedanta philosophy or non duality there are tons of material available there, many scientists like max plank and others have studied this and they loved it very much

Buddha didn't buy the idea of non-dualism, sankhya or any indian philosophy. He completely dismissed Veda, Vedic Teaching or Vedanta or its God and Caste-systems (according to early Buddhism), Hindu brahmins made him as Hindu AVATAR ... thats how hindu philosophy work, making mind-made random philosophy and speculation. Buddhism is not a philosophy, but psychology. Buddha rebelled against vedanta in his entire life, people like Sarvapriyananda and his teachers Vevekananda and Shankharacarya were always against Buddha's teaching. They talk about Tibetian Buddhist which is far from Buddha's early teaching. Theravada Buddhist has the record of Authentic Early Buddhist Text. People like sarvapriyananda have destroyed the Gem of Buddha's teaching from its birthplace India. it doesnt make sense to equate buddhist idea of non-self to hindu true self or God
