It's so wild how openly racist people can be and everyone in that industry just goes about their business as if nothing is wrong. It's insane to me that they can harbor THAT amount of hate. What a time to be alive.
I don't know about anyone else but if I were hired as lead writer for say a game or something else and after I hand it in after pouring my soul into it, my boss who hired me comes and says "hey love your work but you have to change it" and when I ask why they reply "Oh well we got in some narrative consultants to take a look at it and they didn't like it." Like I would feel that the company doesn't value my input at that point? Why was I even hired if they were going to get a third party involved? I'm not talking about constructive criticism or input those are invaluable to improve ones craft but we've got a pretty good idea how these narrative consultations go down. I also feel like the only feedback you would get from Sweet baby inc would be "well this is a stereotype so it must go", "Oh this character got saved or losses to this character, no can't have that." If you were to try to dig any deeper into the reason why a certain thing has to be changed all you'll get is a cold stare or knowing certain companies get fired. Like Sweet baby inc quite literally seems like they're holding a gun to the bosses/higher ups saying this needs to change or you'll find that loan isn't so simple OR well that's a shame wait until Twitter finds out about this and the media twists it into something its not. Also you know they'll find things that are 100% not even close to being a problem within your story because they've been paid to find them. Representation sounds like a great thing to include in a story but you'll find it to be a completely impossible task. You can not represent everyone within a story which is why instead of forcing it into a story. The best way for representation is by having hundreds or thousands of writers working on their own thing with their own vision. Books, games, anime and so on all have different genres based/inspired by different cultures with different values and morals along with amazing characters to enjoy. Doesn't that already sound like we're already at peak diversity and representation? Than there's the thing that not every story needs someone who looks like me in it and if you think that well that is just strange, just because a character shares a nationality or skin-tone with me doesn't by default make me enjoy a character. I can fall in love with a story where no character looks like me. As an anime fan and a male, I think most of top ten characters would be female. I also am not Japanese yet I think it perfectly easy to fall in love with a well written Japanese character. That is the most important key. Well written characters within a well written story with emotional beats everyone can relate to. Everyone understands losing a loved one and so on.
Spot on observation. What you're describing is you helping them by doing all the heavy lifting of actually creating characters and stories, and then your boss invites in these "creative" parasites who can't create anything of worth or value on their own. They take your work, suck out all the juicy actual story and characterization, to leave behind an empty shell they can then wear as skinsuits for THEIR characters, their story, which consists of literally just they themselves. In effect you're literally only valuable as a food source for these vampires, as far as the company is concerned, once they begin courting the ESG and DEI investors and market. It's like they want you to make art, not to use it, but to feed it into an image generator so they can use AI to mass produce cheap quick low effort art and then fire you.
This is what happens to all scripts. Back then executives would come in and force changes that they deemed necessary. Sweet baby Inc is just the same. They’ve had input in lots of work, so whether it’s a lot or a little change is unknown. There just isn’t a way to know what the OG script would’ve been. And sometimes, other input is essential. The Star Wars prequels turned out the way they did because George Lucas got complete creative control. i agree that representation is hard to do, and actually doing it WELL is hard. Basically the industry should allow more diverse voices overall rather than just forcing rep. Cuz the reason they need to “force rep” is that they’re hired in a biased manner to begin with. That said, while you make a good point about representation, we also need to remember a vocal minority of the most catered to demographic also lost their minds in the wake of Turning Red’s release. Being able to relate to someone on screen even if you aren’t the same is expected and normal, but the point is less that and more “when will ppl start talking about issues that effect minorities that majority ppl don’t deal with?”. When they actually do that, it’s extremely powerful.

Thats what people don't get, it's not about monetary success for people taking ESG money from Blackrock and Vanguard. They will gladly sacrifice monetary success if it guides culture to greater division and the direction they intend prior to the transhumanism agenda. Companies would often rather be chosen for ESG investment than go it alone and stay centered on making a quality game/experience. Also within the culture war even if anti-woke gains greater overall support by those who care, the general populance will not also rally against this stuff in enough numbers to execute change. No matter how much gamers openly boycott or decry the hamfisted agenda of those who fund culture manipulation, they will never stop because it's working enough to be very worthwhile in the grand scheme of things.
By the bt, Sweet Baby Inc is NOT the only company that forces it's vision on the entertainment industries (Yes, Plural), there are several others including one named Black Girl Gaming.
True how i see it they didn't just pop out of the blue. They were hired because these gaming companies believed there is a market for this way of thinking and gave them their business. Just cause they go doesn't mean the mindset goes. Still got a ways to go before get actual change.
I would recommend giving the GDC videos a watch. The woke openly talks about their plans there. Have you heard of gaymers they have been at it for a long time

What appears to have happened is circa 2010 Blackrock decided to start moving on a few initiatives. The relevant one here being tying a ESG rating to the terms for investments, loans, and other financing they offered as part of a multi-Trillion USD fund. Mind that most modern businesses _need_ financing to handle the upfront costs of making a product, which is then hopefully paid back by the results of the product. Unfavorable terms in turn represent a significant cost, and there is an argument that the observed trend was that companies getting into hard financial straights then shifted to signaling towards ESG in order to elicit the related investments. The family of firms SB here belongs to in turn effectively exist to provide companies with a means to get what amounts to their ESG compliance stamp, for better financing options.

Good to see you back here Nat As someone from Brazil i have no idea of what gamergate was, to me all i know is: Some radical feminists tried shoving what they liked in games, then they received some deserved critiscism, however the mysoginistic part of the game industry used that as an opportunity to attack them (and woman in videogames or as a whole) then it became a "feminist vs mysoginist" internet war and then the UN got involved (because of course) and things quieted down. Am i too far off??? Also, the reason those companies do those things is actually simple: money, as long as there is a discussion then people are talking about it, freely advertising the product while also freely defending them, it's profitable just as any other discord (just see what happened to Velma show), that's the reason they keep stiring conflict
In terms of GamerGate proper what happened was someone dropped docs about a woman who was sleeping around for clout with among other individuals Game Journalists. People started asking around about what was going on with that, with the expectation that a few heads would roll and things would be back to business as usual. And for a moment it looked like that would be the case with the various Game Journalist companies responding with policy changes meant to prevent that kind of corruption. Then the journalists began very vocally opposing the anti-corruption measures of needing to disclose potential conflict of interest relationships, and in a single day near simultaneously released articles using similar language about how "Gamers were dead." This highly abnormal behavior caught mainstream notice, but expectations that sanity would assert itself were... subverted as various major news outlets in turn ran hit piece out of hit piece that the people noticing all of this were engaging in a Harassment Campaign despite no evidence of said Harassment ever surfacing, and the cliche at that had been uncovered launching waves of campaigns to destroy those who opposed them with what we now call Cancel Culture. In turn the woman who had been sleeping around for clout somehow managed to ride the situation to keep "Failing Up" to use the common turn of phrase...
This phenomena in turn effectively represented the first time the faction that would become classified as the Cult of Woke's attempt to engage in their antics resulted in widescale pushback, which naturally led to them being aggrieved and the resulting phenomena in the years since of them incessantly referencing Gamergate in relation to anything they recognize as opposition.
@@Ricardo_Rickthere was harassment on both sides of the issue. A good deal of it anonymously against the ones who became the poster children of what caused the backlash. The problem as I'm understanding it is that the feminists rarely if ever actually provided "evidence" of the harassment. The thing got 4chan involved very early on into it's inception and so immediately invited unknown numbers of trolls and people who just wanted to stir the pot involved for their own shits and giggles. Thing is "gamergate" was at least on Twitter literally just a hashtag, and obviously anyone could post under it and claim to be part of the movement.
@@Ricardo_RickIf we don't count something like Brianna Wu logged in with her Developer Account "harrassing" herself on the Steam forum... No evidence was brought forward of harassment from the people daring to notice this move away from normal practices of at least trying to maintain a veneer of professionalism. Mind digging on it included a FBI investigation, which didn't turn up anything of note. Harassment the other direction was observed though, just like with SB here very flagrantly going after the Curator, while the Game Journalists once again are falling in line with trying to claim in so many words that the Curator was somehow launching a Harassment campaign and their readers need to Cancel the Curator. As you can see with PC Gamer, Eurogamer, and a few others at this point, although this time at least they're taking different approaches.
I'd say self inserts are great in games that offer real choices that can change the story. If the story is more or less fixed, you can just have a playable character instead of an empty self insert.

Just as an FYI, there are more than just SBI. It's a VERY deep rabbit hole that encompasses every Western industry. Keep an eye on it. It's going to be a long war.
That's why I mainly buy indie games rather than buying triple-A titles. Since most new games are forcing them into the story rather than taking the time to naturally write them into a story. Gamergate found the ties of some game journalist to american defense industry(DARPA specifically), just keep that in mind anytime one of these people tries to preach to you.
Honestly I'm glad I didn't buy any video games that got ESG changes (probably because I'm way into Anime based video games by this point). But what's not funny was messing with Brazilians which the Steam Curator is one and unfortunately for SBI two of it's Employees tried to get him banned and they're got *smoked by more then a hundred Brazilian gamers* and following that Kotaku's Alyssa tried to do Damage Control by visiting thier Discord server that didn't work either and they'll know her name.

Gamergate was never about anything but people who would never have succeeded through any kind of artistic or business talent succeeding through politics and emotional manipulation. Corporations depend on credit lines to function at the scale that they do and those creditors demand ESG stuff to as a sort of Social Credit Score to give those credit lines to businesses so it's a mafia style extortion racket

progressive values sell, companies want to make money, you hirer outside companies to help sell a product better, if you are seen as doing this, you are more eligible for investment us military will give freely millions of dollars of resources and equipment to movies and games as long as they show off the military in a non negative light, there are plenty of things out people out there willing to give resources as long as you are willing to do 'x' sometimes good things and greedy rich people's interests intersect at times when the stars are aligned and so they push a positive message as long as its a money'd interest
