You know, class never goes out of style. More than 30 years after its initial release, this music still sounds relevant. What's incredible about this music is you cannot tell WHEN it was released. Swing Out Sister’s music has always had jazz overtones, so their songs never goes out of style. Just like jazz music. I can imagine lead singer Corinne Drewery being an updated jazz chanteuse a la Billie Holiday when she reaches late middle age. And yes, I can picture her singing jazz standards just like the jazz greats of yester year.
Surrender has the seductiveness of the legendary Sade, the enthusiasm of Lisa Stansfield , and the decadence of the criminally underrated PM Dawn. THIS and Twilight World are a guilty pleasure in a world of ordinary. That overpriced gift ,or bottle of wine, cigar, or chocolate. A rainy evening, fire in the fireplace if you have it, or just subtle candles, a favorite drink, and a compilation of smooth jazz and a gradual interruption into songs like Surrender.
One of the first CD albums I bought. Headphones on in the Dark with a packet of Embassy No 1’…. 17 years old with hundreds of unanswered questions about life… I’m now 54 and non the wiser🥴
Corrine, Basia and Sade. They gave off the same cool groovy vibe back in the 80s. Made you want to slowly dance your way across the room every time you hear their music.
"Still waiting for Love to take revenge." Sweet Surrender to Jesus. The Thousand Years Rage. The Love Commandos..!! We shall be drunk on Stars , we shall fear nothing. * JOY AND HONOUR * 👑🗡️
*In my junior year of college the only thing my roommate heard was Lisa Standsfield, Sade and Swing Out Sister.* ❤️💕 *And maybe the occasional Simply Red, Basia and Everything But The Girl.* 😁
Swing Out Sister had we from the start. Almost 32 years old managing a Video Connection outside of Dunwoody Ga. The store owner was Linda Rudolph and in a way she reminded me of the lead singer. I'm 68 yrs. old & still listen to the album It's Better to Travel & Kaleidoscope World their follow up album. Both are excellence.
Yes, yes they did! I have been expanding my taste in music for the last 7 years, specifically music from the 80's, and I can attest to this. It took some digging, but once I discovered different bands and artists, especially from the U.K. and not just America, it was a truly rewarding experience.
1987 , I was so loved up with my wife to be , brilliant music years , wish I could have her back to dance with . Lost my dear wife to cancer , how I wish .
One of the first songs I danced with my wife to be , I couldn't dance mind you but , I was smitten by her the first time , it's a brilliant song , lost Janet a while ago to bloody cancer but , it's good to see that other people still enjoy SOS.
Che bellissimi ricordi questa canzone.....avevo 18 anni e in macchina a tutto volume l'avrò ascoltata un milione di volte...Emozionante e Corinne....be lei è BELLISSIMA!!
Seriously Higher Art. Chord changes, key changes, beautiful vocal melodies, horn lines from the heavens! So dark, so pop, so accessible but brooding at times. A mysterious combination. A secret best retained but unashamedly shareable. Wow, how to reinvent a look. She is more beautiful than ever. Surrender the favorite, Off to WIKI the last ten years. Gold.
" STILL WAITING FOR LOVE TO TAKE REVENGE." .🖤🔥. The Thousand Years Rage that is the Revenge of Love.. ( This sweet surrender is my surrender to Jesus on the streets of Great Yarmouth.) St Michael.
I was growing up listening to Swing Out Sister, and I am in my early 50s now still very much enjoying their music! It's fab & great music thank you guys ❤️❤️❤️
Same I discovered this band in Italy When they first came out about 30 years ago I still Listen to them once in a while love the horn sector of the band it was a great collaboration ❤️❤️❤️❤️🌟
This was the follow-up single to their huge debut hit Breakout. It was the first Tuesday of 1987 and I'd been out gardening for someone in the Rickmansworth or Croxley area in icy winter weather with perhaps some snow on the ground around their green shoots. Came back through the slushy condition, home into the warm and settled down with Radio 1 on in time for the 6 o'clock rundown of the new Top 40. The first of four new entries was this song,at a lowly 38 but it shot high up the chart over the following couple of weeks. The other new songs were Real Wild Child (Wild One) by Iggy Pop,C'est La Vie by Robbie Nevil and - up at number 18 - pioneering early house track Jack Your Body by Steve "Silk" Hurley. The re-issued Reet Petite by Jackie Wilson stayed at number 1,having got there at Christmas.
I'm so grateful that I was about for such great pop music back in the 80's - was a glorious time to be alive!!! Music like this - makes the music of today look so trivial.
1986 and I was a senior in high school and I was absolutely in love with Corinne Drewery💋😘❤️🥰😍 I was on cloud 9 thinking about her and her beautiful voice!
Dans les années 80, j'écoutais cette chanson dans mon walkman de bon matin en allant au taf, traversant Paris en bus. Chanson et arrangements sublimes. Le refrain et le gimmick me sont restés dans la tête jusqu'à aujourd'hui.
Yes, the 80's and 90's has some really good artist putting out some good projects. Incognito featuring vocalist Maysa Leak from the UK. Swing out Sister. Erykah Badu. Just to name a few from back in the day.
Their first album here was an unadulterated classic ! One neo-jazz gem after another. The music is indescribable---takes you to another time stuck in the fifties and sixties with a modern hip sensibility.
Covent Garden more specifically in this video I believe. And yes it is magical (even today still). As is this wonderful song. It truly stood the test of time.
this is 'Northern Soul'...as in the North of England......i think it is very elegant and great danceability....perhaps they were simply too sophisticated to be a big commercial success...one thing: im so glad to be here now listening to all these great songs....
In those days we were all so good, beautiful, and ... young! Now that we are listening to Corinne, we are not so good and beautiful, but still ... young at heart!
Pahhh !
