The Synthstrom Deluge has synth capabilities far deeper than you might imagine. The ability to use samples over waveforms, and control virtually all parameters remotely pushes the unit way beyond the presets.
I put together this quick rundown on what makes a fat synth sound, starting with some analog basics with a Behringer Model D and then some tricks to make the Deluge synth sound even fatter than the Boog.

Another great video! Just a bit of nit-picking: when comparing the raw oscillator output of the Behringer to the Deluge, you had both of the Deluge oscillators set to exactly the same pitch whereas you can hear on the Behringher that the three oscillators were ever so slightly out of tune with each other. You could've dialed in a bit of pitch offset on the Deluge (set a fractional amount of difference in the Transpose value of oscillator 2) and the sound would be a little close to the Behringer. Also you can use the multiply feature (add up to 7 detuned versions of the oscillator). All good tricks to beef up the raw sound.

Mr Wiggly No worries :) I really liked your idea of sampling like that as an oscillator source. I'm always thinking in terms of sampling much smaller fragments and looping them (which works and you touched on) but I'd never thought that it's so easy to take advantage of the almost limitless space you have for sampling. A bit similar to the Static samples on the Octatrack but way more flexible in terms of using that as a polyphonic sound source.

Nice and informative video! Thank you! In terms of fat sounding synths I think it is also possible to resample an octave or two of Osc stacks, make a kit with them and make each “instrument” in this kit to have its own modulations and variations. I’m not at kits level with my deluge yet, but I think this is possible. Only thing is, this approach is prone to chaotic results, if done without some restrictions.

Great tips! I have some fat analog notes of raw oscillators as samples already. I’ll have to try using them more. I mostly use external synths with the Deluge right now, but appreciate ways I can use this as a solo piece of gear too. Now it’s time to try out the new tips....see ya on the next vid

Just found your channel. Awesome! It just so happens my new deluge arrives Thursday. Question - did you use the deluge to create that bass sound in your intro?

Again a great lesson, comprehensive and effective! One thing that does not seem to work is loading samples to both oscillators...(Ver.2.0) but I think not as a bug about it: Two samples realtime played on a scale....there must be a limit.. I guess two oscillators with feed from Line In L and Line In R will not work neither by same reasons, have not tried yet...

I've used a different sample in each OSC of a synth on the Deluge without issues (albeit they were both short samples).

As a deluge user I'm surprised with the elements I didn't realise were there. You've shown me some ways to improve my work flow. I guess we all have set ways of working and this lead me to be stuck in my own little corner of deluge. Excellent videos,thank you, more please.
