I firmly believe that ALL public officials (cops, judges, politicians, etc.) should get double the time and fines, upon conviction, that an ordinary citizen would get.

They could’ve handled this situation much differently. There were kids in the car and the driver behaved as any parent would have reacted with own children present.

It's a sad state of affairs when you are so scared of what the police might do to you that your only thought is escape. In this man's case to save his and his children's lives.
This man is a literal hero. Those babies may not be alive today if he didn’t think on his feet. Sad when the most dangerous and violent gangs out there are the ones being paid to “protect us.”

He was looking in the car. If he didn't see the kids in the back seat he is a crappy cop. What if a bad guy with a gun was in the back seat. You know he saw the kids he just didn't care they were not his kids.
I don't side with either one, but all you have to do to see if there are kids is to look in the vehicle. What on the officer's mind would distract him from that?
By the actions of these police officers myself and probably most of Syracuse New York heartland barest we need to stand up and not take to harassment by our local police anymore

Whenever he discussed this issue, with media, Mims always painted himself as the understanding cop just trying to do his job. Referencing this incident , he NEVER mentions that this driver was being questioned about why he pulled off to the side of the road, never mentioned the explanation the driver have him, nor that he was aware BEFORE firing his weapon, that he saw those kids in that van. He sticks to his story that the van was stopped because the driver was under investigation. Currently, he is a FORMER Syracuse police officer, who has has multiple domestic violence charges levied against him in 2019. He was placed on probation for these incidents. The common theme , in all videos of this type, is that cops who abuse their positions do so because their "authority" is challenged, not their lives. They are unwilling to accept that citizens DO have the right to question their actions. If you're not doing anything wrong, you shouldn't fear being scrutinized. A large number of law enforcement personnel should NEVER, EVER, like officer Mims in this video, be allowed to carry a badge and gun. They're not mentally stable enough to handle the job.
Syracuse police officer Ahmad Mims revealed himself as a loose cannon in a series of attacks on his girlfriend last summer. He put a gun to her head one time. Another time, Mims punched her in the head and ribs, sending blood spattering onto a window. He pleaded to menacing and assault. But Mims’ anger management and judgment came into question a year earlier in an episode familiar to his bosses in the police department. Mims fired five shots at a fleeing minivan carrying three children - ages 4, 2 and 1 - in the backseat. Two shots hit the van as it drove away, but none touched the kids or the driver, records show.
Should have gotten out of his vehicle and followed orders. Fleeing is one of the most common ways of getting shot by the police. This guy didn’t save anyone’s lives but rather put them in danger. Nowadays as far as we know... cops are taught that if anyone makes them “nervous”, gun them down. Law enforcement puts their lives ahead of everyone including innocent bystander women and children. Recently we had the UPS truck in Florida incident. Cops were hiding behind motorists using them as meat shields and executed the person they were supposed to try and save. It never occurred to them that they should back off and let SWAT do their job. Hey we got fired at let’s unload 200 bullets in the general direction of this delivery truck... killed two bad guys yes! We are badass! Well the other two people we killed were collateral damage oh well. You were called to save a man and you failed as you were the ones who killed him. Do not flee from the police and do not become confrontational. Lots of videos of people confronting the police and getting praised because the police were wrong. But how many times will someone do the same and end up getting shot and killed by law enforcement? I don’t think it’s worth it. At least this new breed of cop, they are not heroic and they do not protect and serve. Everyone needs to get a camera in their car. It can cost less than $100 for a good basic one. You would need a backup battery in this type of incident.
Okay, someone please tell me how you're a cop who by the way is a trained observer. Standing at the door of a motorists, after conversations with the driver, then punching out the makeshift window and you don't see children in the back? But fire 5 live rounds at the vehicle. Answer: Cop is a liar.
The first problem is.....when asked by a LEO, it's the law exit the van ( Mims v Penn ). After you break that law ( showing them your not following commands by exiting ), they go to make you get out and you drive away (2nd law broken). With that said, they had NO right shooting yous. But you did put kids lives in danger trying escape.
These cops are out of control. They don't have any regard for the lives of those children that were in the car. What real man would shoot five times at a car with 3 small children in it. All the cops involved should be arrested and sentenced to prison time...
The policy book says we must smash we must conquer . And to be fair toddler scared the life out of me. So I'm sure if one of the kids was crying that officer must have feared for his life.

Another case of THUGS IN BLUE, He was in FEAR for his safety and his children's, those THUGS were out of control as evidence by video.These THUGS SHOULD BE FIRED.THEY WEREN'T ENFORCING THE LAW ,THEY WERE BREAKING THE LAW.
The tale I've heard from locals up here in Canada is that the US sent a bunch of them up here for training. Canada sent them back in short order. Said they were an out of control bunch of cowboys with no respect for citizens.
This police officer must be put in prison at one. 3 kids in van. Police can lose there kids too. Police office of this town must be totally shut down and all officers be terminated. All polices must go though 2 years of military training and then be mentally check out by outside of military and police hands. And then go though 1 year of training not to harm anyone. Guns are super last resort. Never harm kids or there mom or dad.
