40:32 SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM Henry Catchpole
Following the hotly anticipated T.50, The GMA T.33 is Gordon Murray's next brainchild to take on the mid-engined supercar market. It shares the high-revving Cosworth tuned V12 and similar guiding principles with the T.50. Which got us wondering: What makes it special? So we paid Gordon a visit to find out.
If you're unfamiliar with Professor Gordon Murray CBE, he's the brain behind the iconic McLaren F1 supercar as well as a series of successful Brabham F1 cars. His most controversial innovation was the Brabham "Fan car" that used ground effect aerodynamics and some clever interpretation of the regulations to dominate other F1 cars. This is one of the few mechanical engineers that puts driver engagement at the forefront of design so, naturally, the T.33 has a manual transmission option which is music to Henry Catchpole's ears.

Always love watching a Catchpole piece. Yourself and Harris are by far my favourite automotive journalists. This has to be the best Gordon Murray interview I’ve seen by far. He seems to enjoy telling you about his creation as if you’re a friend he hasn’t seen in years whereas everyone else he speaks to it’s like he’s irritated by something they’ve said or like he needs to take a leak but the person won’t shut up.

Gordon is a legend. I'm totally sold...just have to sort out a minor detail and rob my entire village. I wish GMA started a higher-volume single model sports car based on the same philosophy. This thing is so elegant in every detail and it just has barely a dozen buttons in it. That's the kind of car I strive to build every time I start a project. Bring it back to its essence. I was blown away at the torque curve...Looking forward to seeing every little detail up close on the T50 and this in terms of suspension and aerodynamics, mounting, hinges...every little thing.
@aristosachaion_
@aristosachaion_ Месяц назад
What's stopping him from doing this is his perfectionist outlook. He always wants the best materials possible for his cars, so R&D will never be cheap, which will inevitably raise the price. Not only that, going into mass production means the introduction of quality control issues, which I'm sure the man is extremely adamant about minimizing as much as possible, if not eliminating it completely.

When you see that the video length is 41 minutes, you just know this is going to be an interesting and engaging walk through. I’m not really a details or spec nerd, but when Gordon starts talking about measurements and ratios etc, you can’t help but be drawn into what he’s saying. The guy clearly knows not only how to build a car, but why it looks and drives the way it does. An excellent interview, loving Carfection! Re. the T.33, I will never be able to afford one but I do think the whole "we're letting the T.50 customers have first dibs" is a bit unfair. No one needs a T.50 and a T.33, and I'm sure some of the T.50S are going to T.50 owners also, so when Gordon talks about wanting his cars to be driven surely offering them to non T.50 owners makes more sense than having individuals own all three?

If I'm honest, I find the styling very derivative and unoriginal (the nose is very reminiscent of Jaguar C-X75) , but there is no doubting the brilliant engineering. Look froward to seeing how it performs on the road. Full marks to Carfection for being quick off the mark in bringing us the news on T.33.

Love the work, love the video, and love the cars. I have to say, however, that the unparalleled respect I had for Gordon has dissappeared between the launches. Any engineer/designer deserves to be credited with their accomplishments and Gordon lying through his teeth about the McLaren MP4/4 was incredibly heartbraking to find out. Sourcing all of his early funding off of that false recognition has clouded his own achievements in a way I just can't fully look past...

@@Carfection, the sci-fi movie look of the Evo and Aventador certainly have their appeal -- though I prefer the simplified lines of the Evo, personally. I thought that Ferrari's 296 GTB looked really nice and simple, but Gordon has done it one better. I don't normally wax over a car, but the T.33 is damn sexy.

I know this is sacrilege, but stylistically (as opposed to performance) I always found the F1 a bit bland. I get the same vibe from this. It looks to me like the sort of design these small, one man band, supercars that come along from time to time and promise much but deliver little. I'm sure this will deliver A LOT, but the looks are very generic and uninspired (no doubt a whizz in the wind tunnel though)
@ListingViews

@Lucas-ck1po
@Lucas-ck1po 2 года назад
this isn't sacrilege, don't worry, you are allowed to have an opinion. But i may tell you man, i didn't have any feeling in particular for certain cars until i saw them in person. There are certain designs that arent that much angular and photography wise, they don't show its design qualities. In person you may few completely different. All of those designer language jargon about proportions, they aren't exactly bollocks. I was getting the same vibe until they shot the bonnet at 11:00. That shot shows a little more of its minimalistic and elegant lines, i suspect this may be the among the best car designs ever made. It really gives this 60's racers vibe but its a matter of taste.

@@ListingViews For me it's not that they aren't good looking, it's that they just look "Generic". I know Gordon is (rightly) world renown and admired, but these just lack a bit of pizzazz. Maybe I just want more rockets and spiked wheels on my multi million pound cars!
@Plasticjesus504

Yeah, it really is not that good looking lol. I know that is subjective, but its neither curvy or aggressive. It is forgettable. The components and driving experience must be other worldly but hopefully the driving expierience is worth the 1.3 million dollars.

Amen to that. When they teased the release, I said I hope it’s not gonna be akin to a lotus styling and sure enough in my mind it doesn’t seem like an amazing design, take a pagani or pininfarina’s new car and they look like a well thought out complete design
