Thanks for John's comment, I bought one, the OSS TEAM brand, because there is no KSGER in the area where I live, open it, the PCB board is black, there is no 3V battery.

Yes they change designs quite frequently it seems so internals will often differ as you've found. Thank you for commenting 👍👍

Hello John, I hope all is well with you. That is a neat little soldering iron - I like the small footprint and all the menu options. My wife and I are both suffering from colds and trying to keep up with a puppy whose energy level seem to keep going up and up. Bear certainly keeps us busy. I am looking forward to the kit build. Regards, Dave

Hi Dave, Yes I'm ok thanks. Sorry to hear that you're not too good at the moment, hope you and your wife feel better soon. You'll have have to make some sort of electronic cat on wheels or something to help you keep Bear occupied whilst you don't feel too good.. 😂🤣 Take care mate 👍 John

Thanks John for the review. Our ham radio club's "Builders Group" has several new members and it's always hard to make a recommendation for their first soldering equipment. Fortunately we have a local electronics shop that carries stations and has replacement parts and tips on hand. They're not bad for a beginner, especially when you're trying to steer them away from irons that are mains supplied directly. Will add this one and the V3 to their long list of potential stations!

I think there is a kit that drives JBC irons which would be a good option too

Hi Dino, yes this is a good one my friend, as is the V3 version. Actually I'm doing a separate video on the DIY v3 kit, so expect that real soon :) Cheers friend John

The unit shows ERROR when it cannot detect the tip, try swapping the handles around, as it likely is all that is wrong, I don’t like the plastic handle as the internal contacts are not as robust as I would like, I got Jason to send me a metal one which is better, you can see more in this in my video.
@OrbiterElectronics
@OrbiterElectronics 5 лет назад
Yes I saw your vid mate 👍 Which metal handpiece did you think was the best, the narrow or wider one? I did think it was just a faulty handpiece on mine too, but not so. It was the first thing I tried actually once the new stations arrived. I did fix it though.. It was actually bad connections on the front panels QFP chip. I reworked a couple of rows of pins as they looked a bit grotty under the microscope, and the thing came to life again :)

The one I preferred was this one here: defs.link/?u=916716 It was basically the same as the one I already had (which I had purchased to replace the same plastic one, which came with my fake FX-951, I did videos on those too at the time), although I prefer the rubber grip version to the foam grip one, apart from that the handles are identical.

Hello john, hope you are doing well :-). Bangood have full marks in my book, they take care of there reviewers/customers. It's something that modern business has sadlyforgotten :-(. The stations are very neat, the fact that you can substitute another psu or batterys is handy to have, i like that :-D. I imagine the mosfet on the control board has gone on holiday :-D, replace and heatsink perhaps :-). That tape wrap looks much better, i suppose a long rubber tube would also work, slowing the bend angle, but hey tape is quick :-D

They seem to work hard too. I get emails around the clock from my contact. Would be good to watch the repair

Hi Harvey 👍.. Yes I'm ok thanks buddy, hope you are too. I agree.. Banggood seem fine to me too. I actually had a couple of products replaced by them a good few years ago. I'd written them off in my mind as I thought they wouldn't be replaced. However I was wrong, I received new ones without question (this was even before I did the reviews.) I changed my mind about them after that. My brother and I buy stuff from them quite often. Just a shame it takes so long to get here sometimes. It was a few of the QFP connections that were at fault on the dodgy station Harv. They looked dry & unfluxed, a couple of drag solder tricks down two edges did the business 👍 Cheers mate John

Ahh the processor/driver chip was having a bad leg day lol :-D I bet it was one board out of 100 good ones.

@@zx8401ztv I think Steve was talking about your repair suggestion comment Harv :) I would have videoed the solder drag job but it literally took 1 minute 😀 ⚡

How did you get a replacement unit?! Mine keeps having issues that I feel is related to the controller board, and they sent me a replacement handle, and ignored me after I showed that the replacement handle didn't work.
@OrbiterElectronics
@OrbiterElectronics 4 года назад
Hi.. They sent me a new working unit for review. However the new unit was not required as I just used the new handle, tturns out I could even fix the faulty handle too. On yours check that the iron tip/element is actually locating into the handle properly, if necessary take the handle apart to check that the contacts inside it are opening apart enough to make proper contact with the tip, & not blocking/preventing it from being inserted. Even though these units are normally very reliable I've had a couple of them with exactly the same handle/tip fitting issue.
@chimera5588
@chimera5588 4 года назад
@@OrbiterElectronics Thank you for the suggestion. I'll try doing that, and see if they're locking correctly, and I'll check the handle.

I haven’t heard from anyone other than Jason. I reviewed this too a few weeks ago, I found a manual that someone else wrote and linked that in my video description, you can see it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-trXA59c-VjY.html I did read that the v3 wasn’t as good as the v2, but I don’t know as I’ve only had the one unit so cannot really say if that is the case or note.

I've always delt with Jason too Scott, but I was contacted by Kylie who's apparently now my new contact due to some departmental changes within Banggood or something like that. I've not done any real comparison testing between v2.1 or v3 of the iron but as far as I can tell they're both equally as powerful etc. V3 does have a couple of extra menu options iirc. Im thinking they're for some hot air/pump type tool that they may use the same display control in. I'll be assembling the DIY v3 in my next video.. coming in the next couple of days or so 👍 Thanks for the manual and solder handpiece links mate 👍

So, is 2.1 version any better than 2.0?
@OrbiterElectronics
@OrbiterElectronics 4 года назад
I could be wrong but as far as I was aware the 2.1 version only relates to the self build kit. The pre assembled irons are the v2 irons. Either way the menus aren't much different really.
@at906
@at906 4 года назад
It seems there is a new version which as per the official store is more stable 😊. The diy build kit is v3 and above

@@at906 You're right buddy, I even mention that the kit is v3 in the video. Doh, I must be getting old 😁 Thanks for letting me know that there's is a new version though, that is interesting 👍 Cheers John
