The Tactacam Reveal Cell Camera! This camera was one of the hottest items within the hunting industry throughout the 2020 season. The Reveal was constantly sold out making it extremely difficult to get your hands on the cell camera. We were fortunate enough to find a few Tactacam Reveals and run them during the 2020 hunting season. But was all the hype warranted?
In this video I wanted to focus heavily on the strengths and weaknesses of the camera as the pros and cons will likely be the biggest factors in your decision making process. We will not go over everything on the new cell camera as I wanted to focus more on whether or not The Reveal would be a reliable choice for a cellular camera on your hunting property.
Overall this is a great camera with many positives, however there are a few things that the Tactacam team can work on to improve the Reveal.

Love your channel. Since your using a camera that doesn't need to be went gone to switch out sd cards, use climbing sticks and a bracket and put the camera approximately 10-15 feet in the tree pointed down at the scrape or trail. The deer don't walk around at night looking 10-20 feet up into trees. It also makes the noise less of a problem. Airplanes, birds and other animals make noises in tree tops and the click they make doesn't scare the deer when they are higher in the trees. Helps with camera theft and it isn't as likely to be triggered by wind blowing a brier bush or small vegetation either. One other reason I like is the camera gets a better cellular signal. 2 negatives are they are harder to switch out batteries, sd cards, but the biggest negative to me is the picture profiles isn't as gratifying to watch or go threw. You can tell the deer's horn width, but time length is harder to determine.

Hanging the cameras higher is a great idea to reduce the chance of the deer noticing them. I normally hang them around 6 and a half feet and I'd say most of the deer do not notice them, but hanging them higher would reduce the risk even more.

Good comprehension review, much appreciated. I too jumped into purchasing these cameras this year and feel very satisfied with the purchase. One note that I think is pretty top notch is that you will receive a text notification when the batteries are getting low, or when your memory card is getting full.

I love the Tactacam cameras. I do wish they had black flash but for the most part the deer do not look at the cameras.

This was a very nice honest review of the camera. Evidently Tactacam didn’t make/ import many cameras or they sold faster than hot cakes. My friends and I couldn’t find one anywhere so I purchased a different startup brand. You might want to add solar chargers to some of your cameras. The one I placed on my cellular camera really works well and saves on the cost of batteries.

I don't think they thought their cell camera would have the type of success that it did. Otherwise I think they would have manufactured more. Hopefully they realize the demand and make a lot more next year!

I bought 3 of them no issues with it other them human error. The only issue now that I haven t been able to updated it. The video is amazing I highly recommended I didnt have it on video during hunting season but I been using now video is amazing.

I haven't had to update mine but I will have to before next season. Hopefully that goes smooth! I am going to have to test out the video mode this summer. I love getting video back in the deer woods!

Thanks for the detailed review. I have had so many issues with so many different cell cameras over the years. Have you (anyone else for that matter) had any issues with these cameras sending pics back to you? The biggest problem I have had over the years has been in regard to the unit not sending the pictures, and I have to go into the woods to reset the device (we get these cameras so we don't have to go into the woods and disturb things, not to mention the distance we sometimes have to travel- one of my properties is 4 hours away).

I never had an issue with these cameras sending pictures back to me. I does only send the 2nd picture of any burst, so keep that in mind. The only issue I ever had was when my cell phone had poor service the app wouldn't load as fast. But that's not on the app, that's on my cell service as no app works as fast in a bad service area.

I used the unlimited plan for $13 a month and if you add a camera it's only $12 per month for each one after. Only running them for 4 months so that seemed like the most beneficial. Here are the other plans www.revealcellcam.com/data-plans/

My app pictures are wayyyyy blurrier than yours. Do you know why that could be? Or how I could make them better?

The images I put in the video were downloaded off the SD card. The pictures downloaded from the app are thumbnails or compressed images so they will send faster / use less data. The images on my app are blurrier as well. I think if you pull your SD card the pictures will be much clearer! Hope that helps!

I need to try the video. Most of my cameras that have good video I take advantage and use them. I'll probably test the video mode out more this summer.

I dont think the camera will actually operate as a wireless camera in video mode will it.

I am not sure on that one. I do know that there is an option for video but I don't know if the video is available through the wireless app. Last season I had my cameras set to take 3 pictures and I was always sent the 2nd picture. This year I am going to try 1 picture followed by a short video if that is still an option. That way I will get the picture plus a short video when I pull the card.

I to, think this would be a great budget cam. I have been trying to buy some for a while now. Nobody has them. Damn COVID. Thanks for the info. The only place that we can find them is amazon.for $399.00 and $499.00.

I am guessing you will not find any for the $100 to $120 range until the 2021 version is released. I would guess it will be Summer. Here is the response I got from Tactacam two weeks ago: “We are making new models for 2021 but we have a lot of testing left to do to narrow down all the functions and features. As soon as we have more information we will be sharing it.”

@@BlueWidow2010 I asked Tactacam about their plans for improving night pictures and got a new response. “Hello, I think you will be happy with the new camera that will be coming out around May 1st.” At least a tease that night capturing is improved and a date to start looking for the release.

I know I was having a hard time finding them for a while too. I just got lucky and happened to find a supplier that got a few in stock. I would not be paying $400 for this camera though.

Hey Mitch, I don't think these cameras have been discontinued. I know there was a lot of demand for them and Tactacam was having a hard time keeping up. They also just released a newer model. It's a little more expensive but it's supposed to be black flash so that is a pretty nice upgrade!

It does send them in real time. You can set notifications on your phone to get an alert every time a new picture is taken. It's both amazing when you see your bucks moving passed your stand and nerve wracking when you see them headed to your neighbors haha.

That's a great question and honestly I am not sure. I have only used by phone and my account but I bet if I have other hunters my log on and password they could also access the photos but again, I am not 100% sure. I've hear the customer service with Tactacam is great and I bet they could answer that question!

No. They would be stupid as a company to do this. Why would they let 3-5 people split the cost of one single camera and data plan ? Wouldn’t be in business very long. Think about it. 🤔

Only thing I don't like about them is they will only send one photo to your phone even if you have it on 3 at once it will only send the 2nd one to your phone

Yeah I agree, you could definitely miss a buck if he was the 3rd or 4th deer in a group. I think I am going to switch from the 3 pics (since you only get one anyways) to 1 picture and 1 video. That way I can have some video footage when we pull the card along with that 1 picture.

@@whitetailevolution only thing I worry about on video is battery life. Like you said in your video there's no point in having a cell cam if you're changing batteries every few weeks. I have never tested it on video though so I have no idea about battery life. Not only that but the sd card will fill up a lot quicker which would be another reason to have to go back into a bedding area or some place you don't want to disturb. Unless you don't mind the camera deleting previous photos and vids on loop mode
