I love undershorts. The most essential piece for me. Comfy.

My daughter started wearing shorts under her dresses when she was two or three. She will be 48 in October and shorts under her dresses are mandatory! Loved your video.

Yeah to that skirt, going to be making it in the stretch.

Yes! All my versions are in stretch fabrics and I love them! I had to size down to accommodate the stretch but fitting is pretty easy with those gored panels. 💜

Some lovely choices - thank you. I especially liked your Meg dresses. Did you add pockets to the blue long sleeve version? And oh yes definitely to the bike shorts. They make such a difference to help avoid chub rub. I’ve never considered making them myself. 👍

thanks so much for joining in! i really enjoyed learning about your essentials. i definitely agree that a white blouse makes a great wardrobe cornerstone...that's why i'm telling myself it's ok to have multiples. 😅

Totally! I have a few more in my sewing queue in a few different textures. 😄

This was such a fun video!! You are absolutely one of my favorite RU-vid, Instagram and all around people. So glad we've been able to become virtual friends! It made me smile that I could have guessed some of these essentials. Wren Blouse, Meg Dress and Dawson Top. Absolutely Bri essentials! I totally love your take on the layers piece. I've been meaning to make some bike shorts to wear under skirts/dresses. I'm lucky enough to only need them on really hot, sticky days when I'm walking around a lot. What kind of fabric would you recommend for them? I don't want anything too bulky or too prone to pilling. Bamboo jersey seems like a pretty good option, but I'm curious to hear what you think. Thank you so much for joining in and keeping the tag going!!

🥰 Sewing friendships are the best! And yes, it’s not surprising that a few people guessed my favourites, haha. My me-made undershorts so far have all been from cotton jersey so far, which has been great under viscose, denim and linen dresses and skirts. They do seem to catch on cotton lawn though which makes my skirts kind of shuffle up? I think bamboo would be super comfy and light, but will probably pill a lot? I want to try a bamboo-cotton mix since it’s generally studier but still lightweight and slinky. And if that’s still sticky I’ll look for some nylon Lycra athletic fabric.

I also love my undershorts!!!! 🎉 I use the Helen's Closet leggings pattern for mine, and I wear them with everything, even under linen pants! I totally love that you chose this as a layering piece!

My essentials would be Deer and Doe Plantain Tees, Elbe Textiles Trigg Shorts, Pattern Emporium Fit and Flare, Helens Closet Blackwood Cardigan & Waves and Wild Lightning Leggings (the kids pattern)

@brimichellemade Год назад
Ooh! I’ll have to check out the Fit and Flare! I have the Plaintain in my stash but haven’t actually sewn it up. Would you say it works in cotton jersey or is it better to go for something with more drape?

Bike shorts yes omg life savers in the summer lol. I like to pull them up up up over my B belly to smooth that out as well. My wild card would have to be my me made slippers. I can't suggest a pattern because I disassembled a worn out pair of RTW slippers to take a pattern. I have sensory issues with bare feet on carpet so I'm always in slippers at home.
@brimichellemade
@brimichellemade Год назад
Slippers are totally essential! I haven’t made any but I have to have them at all times in the house too for my chronically freezing feet (thanks ADHD medication). I wear uggs in the winter with wool socks and slides or flip flops in the house for the summer. I really want to make shoes and doing slippers might be fun introduction.
@nataliestanchevski4628
@nataliestanchevski4628 Год назад
@@brimichellemade I'm currently wearing slides with wool socks because the weather here can't decide if it's spring or winter lol. I chucked the slippers in the wash after commenting last night, I finally noticed they were filthy. 😣

Really great video and idea - I think your Meg dress really suits you and I can see why you chose it. I'd love to make it but have never done shirring and it looks hard! You do suit pinks and greens btw.
@brimichellemade
@brimichellemade Год назад
I love my Megs! It actually uses elastic channels rather than shirring. If you use a lightweight fabric, it’s a pretty easy one to sew up. I actually have a full review coming next month 😉

Can I ask what size you used when making your Meg dress? I just made the Madhu top according to my measurements and it was HUGE. Since there are similarities between the madhu and meg, I am wondering if you found Meg runs large?
@brimichellemade
@brimichellemade Год назад
There’s definitely a good amount of ease, but not nearly as much as the Madhu. When I made my blue Meg, I sized down from my measurements at the time (from an 18 to a 16) but now my measurements are between 14-16 and I still like the fit. I think it works because it’s a super lightweight fabric with a lot of drape. If you’re busty and choose to size down, I’d recommend adding a little length to the bodice. I’d also recommend going by your waist measurement minus 1-2 inches rather than whatever the pattern suggests and to give it a really good stretch before cutting it. Im doing a whole detailed pattern review about my latest Meg next month so I’ll have lots of details to share 😉
