Hi from Quebec city, Canada! Great clips! My Burb now has 201K miles and really contemplating rebuild the top end and delete DOD. Your clips really helped me understand better how to do it right. I should do it later this summer and will keep your clips close for reference. Thanks a million!!
Dod lifters will fail at one point or another. Switching to the original hydraulic roller lifters is the best thing for your engine. 👍 Eliminate the problem
There’s a bolt on the left side of the block or drivers side you remove and stick a 3/8” hose in there and fill with oil. That’s where you prime the oil pump.
I can't really say how much gas it used before, because I bought the Tahoe with a misfire caused by the collapsed lifter. But, I put $30 at $2.30 a gal. That gave me about 13 gallons, and I did about 100 miles. So, I'm guessing about 8 - 10 miles per gallon! I'm sure I can see the gas needle going down just as fast as the speedometer going up! 😅
Good job bro I'm thinking about doing everything you did to my 2007 caddlic escalade 6.2 motor but to my understanding everything is the same as a 5.3 liter I am a mechanic I did my a job like this to my cop car a little different but all is the same concept 💡 😅
I hate it when i second guess myself. Either way i can't think straight until i check on whatever is bugging me out. Then you complete the dod delete and then it's something else. Dang how about that. Life caught on camera. Haha. Sorry about that leak but something so simple i am sure you got it.
Sucks second guessing those cam bolts, I noticed you videoed torquing everything except those. I put a motor in my 2011 z71, and the drivers side uses a flat gasket where the passenger side uses a regular donut gasket, mine was the flat exhaust gasket on the drivers side
Needs an exhaust it's too quiet with that stock rear resonator. On our 07 Tahoe we deleted that resonator and stock muffler for a magnaflow straight through muffler.
As far as the arm/delete goes can you drop a older engine in before the afm and just get a tune on that idk I’m in motor issues think new engine but got an older one so just curious thanks
You can put a gen 3 block in but you have to use gen 4 crank, gen 4 crank sensor, gen 4 4 pole cam gear and gen 4 timing cover with the sensor in it. Also have to extend cam sensor harness and drill and tap block on each side for the gen 4 knock sensors. Easier to use gen 4 if that is what vehicle has from factory.
You have to soak the lifters in oil and I like to unplug coils and crank the engine for 30 seconds to get the oil in the galleys before the first start
@@oliverrivas5957 I built hundreds of LS motors without soaking the lifters. Then,we were using the brian tooley Delphi ls7 lifters that had a piece of paper in the box saying to soak the lifters in mineral oil to break up the stuff that was in the lifters and then to soak them in oil. Before using the brian tooley lifters we never had a problem. Needless to say we stopped using those lifters and use the ones we always had been using but I spray them out with brake cleaner and soak them in oil. The machine shop does not soak them and they don't have problems but my buddy at the shop got scared by the problems with the bryan tooley lifters so I soak them anyhow. I would avoid the bryan tooley LS7 Delphi lifters. Too many problems with them.
All in all. You did a great job GT. Cleanliness is a plus. Engine sounds good bro. Better than before the upgrade. I am curious to know how it effected your mpg. Keep up the good work.
Thanks! For the oldie, I have planned on taking the ls 6.0 engine, harness & tranny from my blue truck, and swapping it into the 66. But, I want to give it a fresh overhaul while the engine is out. 👍 I think it gets better attn and value on the 66, than the 01. I'll save some cash to make it happen.
Ayuda !!!!
Yo that how mine sound firts crank the dod with out tune and with the 1 plug in ecu thinks it needs to be in 4 believe it or not i pluged my old valley plate in and truck ran great ecu is learning every drive
Well, if its only to deactivate the DOD.. it should only be like $60-$80 depends on the place. But, that is IF your truck is already running and want to disable the DOD so you won't have this problem with a stuck lifter. Since I changed out the cam and lifters.. I had mine "street tuned". So it was $200 for the first time, then $50 any other time I want to change the tune.
Ismael displacement on demand, fuel is shut off to 4 out of the 8 cylinders in normal driving, when you accelerate, the other 4 will come on. Sounds good in theory, why not just supply all 8 cylinders with less fuel & keep it simple?
I hate cars that are loud. I know most people like it when their cars sound like a damn harley but not me i like it when i cant tell that my car is on cause its so quite. I feel like when your car is too loud you cant even tell when you actually start having other issues
Yes, torqueing is IMPORTANT, now...did you put new lifters soaking in oil over night?? Very important, they have to slowly fill up with oil!! I knew your exhaust leak was from that flange, very typical, Chevy problem, I was yelling you,...you did not hear =)))), also did you torque that small bolt, pipe going to oilpump?? I hope you did, and...also thread lock into cam bolts, yes??? hope you did......;o) One more thing: No timing chain tensioner into new chain??? I sure did not see it????, just wondering....
Originally, the DOD had solenoids that have all 8 cyl running so you have all the v8 power. While cruising highway speed. 4 of the cylinders deactivate so it saves gas. Once you give it enough gas again, the solenoid active and all 8 cyl begin to work again. These afm lifters are on cyl 1, 4, 6 and 7. One of the lifters stayed stuck so basically the truck was only running 7 cyl at its best. I had a dead cylinder. After the cam swap, the kit came with a valley cover that bypassed the solenoids so the truck would always be running on 8, but since there is no longer solenoids in place. The computer detected it and stopped sending power to 4 injectors. 👉Basically, the solenoids are an on/off switch to oil going to 4 of your lifters (the other 4 always have constant supply of oil). If you shut off 4 cylinders, there's no need for the injectors to be sending fuel either. I hope it explained.
