He's adorable! I have two Cairns...Fergus who is 14 and McKenzi who is 12. Up there in years but they still entertain me with their antics and are the best dogs one could ever come across. Cairns are the best!
Bentley is like all of our cairns mixed into one! We were all shouting names of our dogs each time Bentley did something! Soooo cute! Hehe! Thanks for sharing!
I had a cairn for 15 years. Pip was such a smart and wonderful dog. He really could talk, I taught him. He could mouth and verbalize the words, "I want one". He seemed to NOT like to do it, but proper motivation (treats), he would.
If you're still considering a Cairn - I had one for almost 18 years and she was a sweetheart, never attacking my brother and me despite us being rather annoying kids at times. They do have a bit of a temper so you should put your foot down and be firm when needed, but other than that they're so wonderful!
My little girl has finally gotten comfortable enough to talk to me! I rescued her a couple months ago and she is crazy now that her full Cairn personality is coming out! This little guy is ADORABLE!
My carin, Robby, would have tempter tantrums when he wanted up or more pets and we weren't. He would talk like this and stomp his paws like an angry toddler. Sooooooo cute. Miss my baby 💔
i had a cairn/yorky cross who looked a lot like this one and she behaved the same as well. reminds me of her sooo much. Really nice to see. :) Getting a new Cairn puppy in two days :P, Can hardly wait .
awww our Cairn does that sometimes... when he's not barking at whatever he can see from the loungeroom window. The sitting up on hind legs trick is really cool though!
I rescued a little male a couple of months ago. This little dog is the best! Smart and extremely loveable! Just don't let them off the leash. He's faster than my blue heeler!

Thank you! Barking is something that a trainer can help you with. Sometimes the clever dogs think that you are in a game with them and so the barking continues even as you try to shoosh them over and over. An obedience person can help you. You could even ask at a large pet store where they have grooming. Or ask your vet. Just one or 2 sessions can really teach you a lot. Good luck!
I agree with beryl. I have a Cairn . She is VERY smart, verbal & communicates by body language also a little lover who loves to cuddle & be rubbed on. She does not see a strange & rolls on her back so her belly can be rubbed.
What can I say? My 1st dog was a Cairn female...when I was 5! My 2nd was a Cairn boy...and my 3rd a mixed breed rescue terrier...with a Cairn male puppy shortly afterwards(they had 15years together)&my current dog is a Cairn/Scottish Terrier mix, currently around 16 years of age. Do you think I love Cairns?! They are feisty, so loveable, tenacious, playful, loyal, protective... To be honest, I find it hard to say a bad word about them! The most wonderful little breed of dog, with a huge personality. All of ours have been loved to pieces...and they have truly loved their family back. You never regret sharing your life with a Cairn!
These are very sensitive dogs -- not aggressive, but they are Terriers so they can be energetic and hard to train. You will need to learn how to teach the dog in a way that the dog understands -- that can best be done by taking an obedience/training class with him. They are not expensive and very very helpful if it is your first dog. Cairns are very smart little dogs with huge hearts.
We adopted a Cairn from the shelter about 5 months ago. He's just now started talking to us. When we ignore his talking, he barks instead. It's probably the cutest thing I've seen/heard him do. :3

Oh, I am so sorry. So very sorry. I really ache for you. :o( I know I am going to miss my precious Bentley someday. His birthday is this coming Tuesday, he will be 11! He has serious illnesses (Cushings, liver disease and a mucocele on his gallbladder!) but we are very conscientious with his health and meds and you would never know it! He is like a puppy! Happy and cheerful and boundless energy. He only gets grumpy at night! I don't think our king sized bed is big enough for him!
Beautiful Cairn! I have always loved them and always had them, all mine have been wheaten. I have one in my lap right now watching yours! He loves Tv and video!
Great video! I got a Cairn Terrier about a year ago and we love him! He is a great companion to my older dog and he is very smart and loving. He also makes funny little noises just like your dog!

Thank you for your comment. I'm so sorry for your troubles. We actually just lost our beloved, precious prince last month. We were told 6 months ago that he had liver cancer and would probably have to leave us this fall. The vet was right. He was a valiant and energetic and loving til the end. Oh my how we miss our dedicated friend. Best wishes to you.
Exactly the same colour as my little Hamish "Little H" he went to the Rainbow Bridge many years ago now, but there was a bond between us that can never be broken. I grew up with Cairns having got the first one when I was five (1965) and Little H was the last one, he actually out lived my Mum. Dear little souls there are. Now I have Lurchers, bit of a difference! But still love the Cairns
Mine makes the same noises! Similar color too! He's about eleven now and is by far the best dog I've had. I think this is my official breed. Long live the Carin's
Enjoyable video! Bentley is so handsome and I just love the talking. Our Cairn, MacKinnon "Mac" is a talker and singer as well. Super breed these Cairns! We recently added a puppy to our family. Mac is now 10 1/2 and was becoming a bit more sedentary than we liked. Overlapping dogs is working out beautifully so far. Mac has great habits that Bailey is now picking up. Well, except for his lousy version of fetch. ;-)
My cairn terrier Martini talks when he wants his tennis ball under the couch or you scold him from running out in front of the house, he's quite a character, I love him!

Aren't all dogs wonderful!! We did not teach our little guy to sit up on his haunches like that. It actually all started at the front door... you know how people will arrive and come in and stand around and talk to each other. Well, he wasn't getting enough attention from anyone, I guess, and he just started standing up like that and then tilting his head back and forth. Of course, then everyone standing there noticed and fawned all over him. He taught himself that one!! :o)
He was 12 last May. As my husband said, he stayed with us as long as he could. He really loved us and would have lived into our old age with us if he could have. They are such a loving, smart breed. It really helped us to talk a lot with the vet there in the final days. Don't hesitate to call them again and again if you have questions. Best wishes!
Oooh, he's so pretty! I have a 9-year-old blondish (but curiously also with some black in her) female called Cookie, and a 10-year-old reddish (now with a grey tail!) male called Muffin. Muffin sneezes when he wants attention... and now Cookie's started copying him. And he's started copying her trill of a growl for attention xD Lovely dogs
Oh no, Bentley's gone too? :( How old was Bentley when this was filmed? He's a dead ringer for my brindle cairn toward the end (he lived 17 years)... I was actually getting flashbacks watching this. Only difference is Bentley's a lot more talkative. :) Gotta love the brindles. They always seem to be the friendliest and most relaxed. Seems like they're often the chunkiest too.

Yes, personality is important. But I honestly thing that a dog's personality reflects the owner. If you know some nasty dogs, I would re-think your friendship with the owners!! The breeder you purchase from is very important, too. You might want to start going to dog shows in your area and then go behind the scenes where they are grooming all the terriers, or where all the owners are just hanging around. These people love to talk about their dogs! You can learn so much that way. Good luck!!
