I want to thank you for creating this video and publishing it for us all to see! So many of us are indeed that "won't talk about certain things lest my wife or kids think I'm weak". When someone offers you any attention at all, welcome it. Mental health comes from being isolated, and that comes from not letting others help you. Coming up on 600,000 street miles in 40 years, I ride for those who no longer can!

I turned 67 this past November and then got the news I had prostate cancer. I was lucky and mine was the slow growing kind so I opted for the radioactive seeds. The only mistake I made was watching someone else’s procedure on RU-vid. Pretty invasive procedure but before it gets ugly you’re knocked out. Zero complications from the procedure and no regrets with the procedure I chose for the cancer type I had. I’ve now been riding 50 years and the majority is on the adventure bike now but I do get to ride 5-6 dual sports a year on the KTM. When I use to ride enduros I got heavy into exercise. Ever since 1982 I go to the gym 5-6 days a week. Even though I don’t get to ride the KTM as much as I’d like I can still enjoy a 100-150 mile dual sport. Most of my friends (who do no exercise) suffer at the dual sports. Maybe 10+ years ago I got addicted to riding a road bicycle and was doing 50-75 miles several days through the week. When I’d finish the dual sports my buddies were all dead and I couldn’t believe how much energy I still had. My bicycle riding partner quit riding so I gave that up. I also TRY to eat healthy but I’m no saint. Great information as always Jeff!

Well done, Jeff, thanks for using your bully pulpit to get an important message out! Most of us dirt bikers like to think of ourselves as tough guys, many of us don't like to see doctors. I've always been extremely fit and healthy for my 58 years of living and 54 years of riding. I've been off the dirtbike for 14 months and counting due to random and sudden major eye related issues, not cancer or injuries. Detached retina both eyes 6 months apart. Had the screenings and when the doc found out I was 50 and never had anything up there..... The scope was ordered ;-) I have ridden with a fella that is 79 at the time. We didn't really have to wait on him. I hope to be healthy enough to still get out at that age. My wife made me go get a full physical several years back. Something I'd never really done. Some things were discovered and having it done was a good thing. I get blood work pretty much every quarter now and yes the doc harps on me.

Thanks for posting this personal video as it may save someone's life. Along with prostate cancer, colon cancer is an avoidable issue that affects more and more people. Fortunately there is a blood test for colon cancer now as the colonoscopy is a bit of an ordeal to go through. I lost my older brother at age 58 to colon cancer because he waited until he was Stage 4 to go in to see the doctor and he refused to have a colonoscopy and the blood test didn't exist back then. 62 here, finally retired from the corporate hamster stress wheel, and working as an independent consultant, healthy and at a good stage in life. I like this season in my life and want to live and ride as long as I can. 100% on annual physicals which include blood work. Just do it. Jeff is direct as he always is: "ya can't ride if your dead" 😂

Just turned 35 and been dealing with the same thing for the last two months. Do yourself a favor and get checked out by a urologist to rule out the obvious stuff. If they can’t find anything, look into Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS) treatment (it’s mostly physical therapy and mental based). Check out the books “Headache in the Pelvis” and “Pelvic Pain: The Ultimate Cockblock.” There’s so much research into this issue for women but us dudes get hosed and 95% of Prostatitis diagnosis are really CPPS.

Most doctors won't even rely on a digital test anymore. And you're absolutely right about the biopsy. Feels like a prison rape
@srit9688
@srit9688 2 месяца назад
Wow, sorry that your biopsy experience was bad. My biopsy about a month ago was NOT bad whatsoever. In fact, of the 13 samples that were taken, most were barely noticeable, only a few of them caused me to flinch from what I’d describe as a quick poke/stab discomfort bit of low pain that I felt only a second or two (for each of the few that were of anything worth mentioning or complaining about). Note that the biopsy procedure was ordered after an irregular MRI which was ordered after discovering high PSA from blood work during an annual physical at age of 58. I’ve since received the results confirming prostate cancer. Just earlier today met with an urology oncologist surgeon as he talked with my wife and me explaining everything along with what treatment options he recommended. Fortunately mine is grade 2 and so isn’t totally devastating. Of course this sucks to be having to learn and deal with the side effects of the various treatment options, but I’m glad this was caught early enough to take action now rather than not getting checked and not knowing until it would be too late (considering if left untreated it could end up metastasizing and if that happens, that’s when more often it’s way too late to do much of anything to prevent life being taken much sooner from the cancer spreading). Thank you Jeff, truly a great message and call out to all of us. Great to hear you’re recovering and on the mend. ALL, it’s really just some small inconveniences and time spent during an MRI and the biopsy procedure, those weren’t bad at all. Don’t ignore or pretend it’ll not happen with you. I guess I’ve figured cancer happens to so many but I never thought I’d get it. Well, I did get it, and still thinking why, but now working out the plan of how best to treat and live on. Get tested regularly!!!

@kenfarnsworth5239 2 месяца назад
@@srit9688 My father had it so my odds were high . I think my brother who is older dodged the bullet at least for now. I didn’t realize how many samples they were taking. I was a 3 on the Gleason scale. Hopefully isn’t worse this time. . It sounds like we’re in the same boat. I think I was 58 when first suspecting cancer but didn’t biopsy until last year because MRI didn’t show .

Jeff: Thank you for making this video, maybe the most important one you've done. While I haven't had your experience, I did have one that each of us should be concerned about. I was in great health at 52 with annual physicals and EKGs, riding mountain bikes competitively and on training program. We were in Durango riding and after 6 days I had a heart attack during dinner. No prior symptoms. Luckiest person you'll ever meet, as at the next table to ours at the restaurant was an EMT and there was also an ER nurse. CPR, they saved my life along with the other medical professionals in DGO. In the end, 3 stents, 2 bypasses and I have been fine since, 15 years later. Guys and girls: if you have a family history of heart issues (I do) or any other possible indicators, or for your own peace of mind: Get your plumbing checked for blockages. I hope that sharing this is helpful to someone.

Sadly I know several people who have passed from either colon cancer or bladder cancer recently. Honestly anyone who is not getting a colonoscopy and blood work after age 50 is a fool. I know it sounds harsh but it's absolutely insane not to do this. Hell it's free under many insurance policies.

Im 74 years old Jeff. Live in Idaho. 2 years ago I could ride my dirt bike (Husky TE300 and Beta 300 Race) for 60 to 80 miles of technical mountain trails in a day. Since I developed stage 3 kidney disease last year now I can ride 20 to 30 miles of trail in a day, if I am lucky. Still go in every 3 months for lab tests to get checked for everything possible. Kidney function runs about 32% now. What you say is true about cancer. I've lost by dad and many friends due to cancer. It never really does go away. No true cure for it.

Ever since the military, I have been one who takes care of myself...not to the point of being a health nut case, but I do run 9 miles each week, 600-900 sit ups, 300-400 push ups and many other exercises including a rowing machine and walking my dogs 10-15 miles every week. On my off days, I am on the bike riding/training for hours getting ready to chase the 60A AMRA state title here in AZ next year. I have seen countless people I know just flat out give up and that is for sure their choice....not mine and it is not Jeff's either. Some of us are hard chargers and have been all our lives. Others are slugs. Which one are you?

I would just add two things. One, they don’t even use the digital rectal exam anymore, so that’s not a good reason to avoid this issue. The PSA blood test is a more reliable marker. Two, my dad is a retired surgeon and he always said that every man will eventually get prostate cancer, if they live long enough.

Prostate exam is a piece of cake.Lay in a bed ,they put you asleep,you wake up and never feel a thing other than being groggy for a few minutes.The prep is the only tough part.Cant eat anything 12 hours prior before exam.You have to take laxative and get the hershey squirts also.im on my third exam in a few more days and its no big deal. So man up and get check.Beats the torment of cancer in your bunghole.

Sorry to hear you have been enduring all that, Jeff. My father went through hell with his prostate cancer treatment. I'm not convinced his benefit/cost ratio >1. Of course there's differences in cases/treatments so one case doesn't define anything but it's enough to make me really question things. It seems like every year, over all these decades, we hear of some "breakthrough" in treating and/or curing cancer. And still, it doesn't look like our overall track record has gained much. What we can see is we gained a lot of cancer centers and people in treatment. What we think of that depends on the filters we see things through. So much money and human resources reportedly working on treatments and cures, yet we don't seem to see much progress at the ground level. It's really disheartening that we seem to know so much, yet so little. And/or there's something else at play. I haven't been to a doctor since the pandemic, and I dread the day I need to. Meanwhile I try to maintain my health and mobility and be thankful for the time I have. May God bless you and your wife with quality years ahead together and thank you for your message.

@@Dashriprock4 you go to the mechanic with a perfectly functional car that has nothing wrong with it and the mechanic will find something to fix and in doing so will likely mess something else up in the process. @@chadrides914 perhaps we should join the rest of the more advanced nations and not have capitalist healthcare, but I digress. I went to the doctor regularly and only now has there been an issue. The recommended course wasn’t surgery or oncology, but active surveillance. So your hypothesis is null. You need to find a new doctor and we need to vote for single payer healthcare.
