This week, we wanted to take a minute and discuss trail etiquette. Being good stewards to our trail systems and public land helps provide access for future generation in our sport.

Thank you for reiterating that riding uphill traffic has the right of way! So many people (especially those MTB guys ignore this completely, and get pissed at you because they are riding out of control going downhill.

I make the bike quieter when people are around, I have a volume control on the right handlebar.

Good advice Jeff. Here in the rio grande nf and other sw forests a saw is an essential piece of equipment. Many riders assume the trail is clear and that its somebody else's responsibility to clear . Not so . Memorial weekend of 24 we had a group of 4 " teenagers " strand themselves by assuming a trail was open , riding an unknown trail on the downhill without enough fuel to go back a saw , no skills, no plan. They called SAR RIO GRANDE COUNTY. A good quality handsaw will get you out of a lot of situations. It takes a lot of work to keep the trails open and its a small group doing the work, same applies to atvs.

Thank you for good advice for all of us. Especially loud pipes. I don't know if I have ever seen a skilled rider in Colorado with a loud pipe. I have seen plenty of spodes with loud pipes. I ride and I am annoyed greatly by loud pipes.

A massive "thank you" to all trail clubs out there and those that work on the trails to keep them nice! Our trails are our responsibility. And yes, make sure your bike isn't loud and nasty sounding.

Noise is one of our biggest enemies.. I just bought a Stark Varg and my favorite thing is the lack of noise. Still love my YZ250x but the stealth factor can't be ignored. If they can't hear us they won't care about us.

2nd you on the noise... lots of people really like a tiny muffler on a 2 stroke or even worse a 4 stroke, and then rev it repeatedly at the parking lot - thats my pet peeve anyway. doubt you can do anything about tire spinners. everyone spins tires at some point

They didn't even send me my permit. I just carry my receipt. Not at all impressed with CPW in that regard. In contrast, Utah sent me my stickers within 3 weeks and I could do it all online.

I keep getting further and further away from the big cities, unfortunately in our digital age even in the “Outback” the moto-bro’s are arriving. Some trails that used to have pine needles and no traces of people have been turned into race tracks. Perhaps folks who escape into remote areas do things they wouldn’t even do in the Rampart Range - nobody’s around. We’ll that’s not the case, you have to be even more careful or another National Monument will be created. With a tinfoil hat on, I’d say whatever you do, don’t share your trail files, in fact turn off your phone and GPS unless you really need them.

All true.... But permits are just another excuse to tax the people. This is our land, not theirs, and don't say the permit money goes to trail maintenances There are plenty of other taxes (fuel/gas tax, income, road tax, sales tax, property tax, the DMV fee's you already paid when you purchase the bike, etc.) that take care of that.

Florida is kind of going through the same thing right now There's. Been protests going on at all the state parks. Because they're trying to turn them all into Disneyland with hotels and Tennis courts and blah blah blah blah, it's really bad. Trusting the states to administer this stuff is not a good thing
@JTWRacing
@JTWRacing 17 дней назад
Better do a little more research before believing that other taxes you mention go to paying for trail maintenance and upkeep. The permits are one of the only sources dedicated to trail maintenance and upkeep which is why many of our nice trails have closed in the past.
@joshorintas4602
@joshorintas4602 17 дней назад
Ohv permit fees are actually one of my favorite rebuttals when non riders try to say motorcycles shouldn’t be able to access a given trail. We’re the only user group who has to pay a fee to use the trail. Those fees go to trail maintenance. Read the flyer that comes with your permit. By that logic, we’re the user group who pays for trail maintenance. Granted, trail maintenance has a larger price tag on motorized trails. So pay the $25, don’t complain that it is an excess tax and enjoy the trail that has been maintained by your small fee. And most of all, be grateful that you are able to use the trail at all.
