Tama's R&D is top notch - everything you need, nothing you don't.

I can't wait until this stand arrives at my local shop. Perfect for my pub/small club gigging kit.I wasn't a fan of some of the new retro stands that were out there from DW, Pearl, Gibraltar, Ludwig, and Canopus, which isn't distributed in my country through any music shop, but Tama seems to once again have addressed the significant problems these other stands had. The Ludwig base was too wide, leaving little to no room for pedal and snare stand placement. The DW wasn't stable, and had movement with quick playing, and also had too much of a wide base. The Pearl is well constructed and looks great, but has the widest base. Gibraltar weighs almost as much as a traditional single braced stand, still making it quite heavy and bulky. Tama has solved all those problems with flying colors. Thank you, TAMA, for making this stand for us "working stiffs" who always end up with a "stiff" back due to lugging around heavy hardware that these other companies consider to be "lightweight". ;))

Had the DW retro hard ware kit. The Tama hardware is soooo much better. No comparison. Tama: always thoughtful,always logical, best build quality.

The Tama classic hardware is the hippest stuff out there. This stand in particular is a true joy to play and look at, and it's fucking $99.95. It isn't over-engineered like the other flat base stands from DW, Gibraltar, etc. and feels way better. Also, the snare stand, straight stand, and pedals are fantastic, so check those out too. I have the whole set and I prefer it to any of Tama's other hardware which is just too heavy duty for me. 10/10 Tama.

I agree 100%. I use two of the straight stands, the kick pedal, and the hi-hat stand in my live setup. Saves so much space (I now use a Husky-branded 26" plastic toolbox from Home Depot to transport my hardware with room to spare), and my hardware probably weighs less than half what it used to. Only non-Tama hardware I use is my DW throne (I'm a big guy and need a heavy-duty throne) and a Yamaha SS3 aluminum snare stand, which is also lightweight and compact, but has a basket design that I prefer to Tama's lightweight stand. Well worth the money, and very fairly priced.

I'll add, if you're not too rough on your hardware and don't overtighten the wing nuts, the lightweight stuff will last just as long as anything else. As long as you're not a heavy-hitting metal drummer with a 24-inch ride and 22-inch heavy crashes, the stands are plenty strong enough to do their job with minimal wobble. I alternate between a 21" Sabian AA Bash Ride and 21" Zildjian A Custom 20th Anniversary Ride, in addition to a 19" Zildjian A Medium-Thin Crash and 14" Zildjian K Hi-Hats. I'm a hard hitter, although I try to be lighter on the cymbals to keep stage volume and dynamics on point. But I will occasionally beat the crap out of those cymbals at the height of a build-up. All are perfectly stable with the Tama Classic hardware.

Didn’t show if you can remove to upper tube and pull rod. I’d prefer to have the stand sections separate so i can use a short case.

Why not make the legs swivable? Its the only feature I'm missing! The top part is knurled all around, So surely it could be done? Sure, It would mean you'd have to put it back to its original place every time you pack it up. But I would love to be able to use it with a double pedal.
